Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

hmmm ok, that's what I figured.

How does everyone feel about the Pro Controller? Not for Pikmin 3, but in general? Is it worth the purchase?

It's worth it, particularly if you're not fond of using the Wiimote for non-pointer controls. Plus, practically all of Nintendo's first party games support it and a lot of third party titles do too.

Remember that you can take screenshots of most games. Just press Home at any moment, go to the browser and choose your favorite image uploader (minus, Imgur, etc.)..or your Facebook page, or just email the pics to yourself.

And yeah, Pro Controller is great. Got a black one months ago, and a white one last month thanks to the Best Buy clearance.

One more question, for wii titles like battalion wars 2 would the gamepad work or do i need a nunchuck?
Everything Wii related, you use the exact same controllers as the regular Wii. Though the latest update allowed to use the Gamepad as a (smaller) TV for Wii games, the controls don't work.

Bought mine this week too OP. Got the NSMBU Bundle, and so far I'm extremely happy. My fiancee loves it as well. I'm also glad I waited a year to get it, since games like Zombi U are so cheap to get now, and the availability of games is good. I'll wait a year to get the ps4 aswell, a year in the market makes a huge difference in game selection.

Just bought a Wii U myself. I got the Zelda Windwaker bundle. Sneaky, sneaky Wii. It says 110v but apparently it's autovolt.

I got Wonderful 101 and NSMB U. A friend and I finished NSMB U in 1 day LOL. So fun to play multiplayer!

What recommendations do you guys have? I'm planning on getting Pikmin 3 but am thinking the controls might be hard? Never played Pikmin before.

Thanks!

How far before i notice connection issues with gamepad?
Aprox. 26'.
Depends on walls, other wireless connections, etc. Just walk around with it, the moment it starts to lose signal, a message will appear on the screen. Mine works around a 15' radio, because there's a wall in between...it ends right at the entrance of the bathroom. :p

Now that you're done with NSMBU you should try NSLU, it's really challenging.

Pikmin's control ain't that bad once you get the hang of things, same formula as W101 and Sonic Lost World. Practice is the key.

There's a couple of third party titles that are worth it: Deus Ex, NFS, ZombiU, Tekken and Rayman are all worthwhile experiences.

EDIT: Oh and there's Ducktales Remastered that came out in disc version this week for 20 bucks only, bought it and having a blast with it, perfect remake if you ask me. Plus I feel legit playing it on a Ninty platform since it came from there at first. :D

Thank you! Appreciate it.
Forgot to mention, I'm looking for exclusive titles to Wii U. Are these?

Reason is, I pre-ordered a PS4 and currently have a very powerful laptop that can play any game on max settings so I'm hoping to play any multiplats there. The reason I got a WiiU is because Nintendo games are just magical to play. I think I got tired of playing mostly "mature" games.

I'm getting that Pikmin 3 in a while.

Alright
Im planning to be about 15' away
Dinky wall in between though, hope it works

Well, this is not an exclusive, but Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has a lot of exclusive stuff, Nintendo alt. costumes and Modes.

NFS isn't exclusive as well, but this is the best console version you can find, since they used PC assets for the Wii U version, it looks quite good.

As for exclusive that are worth it, depending on your tastes you should check out NSLU, Sonic Lost World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, ZombiU and WindWaker HD.

I try to recommend tekken tag tourmanet whenever I get the chance.

So, it's been 12 months since the release and no hardware failures of any kind? How many improvements has the system itself had since launch? Has anything changed with the HDD or still stuck with the 32 GB limit?

1. There were a lot of system freeze issues. I think thats no longer the case.
2. There were 3 major updates (launchday, spring and autumm) since then speed increased and stability improved. Also offscreen for wii titles was added.
3. 32 GB limit? You can just plug in any external HDD i believe.

You can actually use an external HDD...(EDIT: dammit SporeCrawler. :P)

I use a 64GB USB stick personally, I'm not going all digital so that's more than enough for now.

About 3, Nintendo recommends external HDDs that have their own power supply. More information can be found over there:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/sy...general_info&submenu=wup-external-usb-storage

I had two freezes this week, that only holding down the power button on the console for several seconds fixed. :(

I need some information regarding my Wii u...

I still have my Wii and want to migrate all my software, but I had set it up for the homebrew channel and whatnot. I know I haven't updated it in more than a year via wiiconnect or the store, will running the updates to download the migration software brick my Wii? Or will it just update over the homebrew install?

As i understand the migration will not effect wiibrew stuff.

However i just did not bring my stuff over because i had the concerns you have

Finally snagged a Wii U off of Cowboom a couple days ago for $185 after tax and shipping. Think I'll head to Target later and hit up the B2G1 deal. Going to go with Wonderful 101 and Wind Waker HD definitely, but not sure about the third. Any ideas?

Pikmin 3,
Monster Hunter,
Wii Party U,
Lego City Undercover

Hardware defects were and are minimal. Nintendo hardware, even hardware with numerous moving parts, is typically very well designed and constructed. Wii U freezes were initially common depending on what you were playing, but firmware has reduced these occurrences dramatically to the point of obscurity. The OS is now more fluid and prompt. Wii BC streaming to the Gamepad has been enabled, but still requires Wii controllers. Screenshot dumping to internet image hosts was added at the same time.

Pikmin is a really really great game.

rayman legends is wonderful. pikmin 3 is a good choice too.

Well, the first recommendation is Toki Tori 2+. This is one of the best games ever made, and an instant classic no one should ignore.
It's a puzzle adventure and it's hard (well, I'm judging the game for what I've played of the Toki Tori 2 version, the + modifies some puzzles so it could be possible that they also toned down the difficulty a bit) but clever as it can be, and as I say, it's design is something I've never seen in this industry, being the only game that truly evolves the "metroid-vania" formula to the next level.

It's a TOTAL MUST HAVE. Period.

I can't seem to.....stop buying games for the Wii u, I've running through games, it's amazing, off TV play has me. Completing games again. I've had a WiiU for 3 weeks now, completed W101 *Which is fantastic, it felt like dmc* Assassins Creed IV, Lost world, and Call of Duty 4. I just picked up Mass Effect 3 and Darksiders 2. I love this little box.

A question, I'm buying a Wii U soon, do I need the gamepad to get through the menus or can I just use the wiimote/pro?

You can use pretty much anything to navigate your games, apps, Miiverse or internet browser, but you need the Gamepad to screw around with your configurations or buy stuff in the eShop.

Public service announcement: If you're buying a Wii U and hosting Thanksgiving this year, consider picking up Wii Party U along with Nintendoland and maybe Game & Wario.

I got Wii Party and Game & Wario at Target this past week in the buy-two, get-one-free sale, and last night, after I showed the PS4 to my girlfriend, we spent the next three hours grinning from ear to ear playing mostly Party, but also Wario and Wii Fit U.

That kind of fun right there is what video games are all about!

What's weird that they didn't seem to bring over the Wiimote on-screen typing. Typing is GamePad only unless I'm misremembering something horribly here.

I bought mine the other day (NSMBU Bundle) and didn't have any updates. If I did, it must've taken 5 or less minutes and I mistook it as loading.

Strange thing is, I bought 2, set the other one up and it did have an hour long update. Both were new, packages exactly the same. I guess not all of them have the updates pre-installed. Maybe they've moved some from old batches.

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a WII U to go along with my PS4 and probably XBOX One, I already have my eyes on these games, so for those that have played them please let me know if they are a good pick:

WII U Bundle with Super Mario Bros U + Luigi
Zombie U
Wonderful 101
Zelda Wind Waker HD
Super Mario World 3D

However I was wondering whether I should wait, you see Nintendo of Australia decided to not drop the price off the Wii U, while America and Europe got a $50 or so cut.

Should I wait till Christmas and see if a cut comes then? or is it looking like no cut until next year?

If it matters, I game on the 3DS as well as well as PC, $428 for the bundle alone is pretty steep, however Nintendo games are finally picking up for this system.

I think for $428 you got WII U Bundle with Super Mario Bros U + Luigi + Rayman at EB.

Considering they're selling Rayman for $28 it's not that good of a deal. Personally I'm just put off by the fact the two Mario games are packaged onto the same disc.

I really want to get a Wii-U soon but the lack of good deals is here is off-putting. Annoying I failed to capitalise on the time when Dick Smith were selling them for $250. Maybe there'll be a 3D Land bundle? Pretty sure we didn't even get a Wind Waker bundle which is annoying. Been keen to play Lego Undercover for months now.

That's actually far better to have them on the same disc. It's basically the same game. It's just another set of more challenging levels for Luigi.

It's much less convenient to switch discs, trust me. I wish I had them both on one disc. Hell, I'd trade you my two physical ones for that one.

well NSLU is pretty much a DLC for NSMBU. consider it a best of release.

Just came back from the mall. I bought Pikmin 3 and Luigi U. I didnt know the Luigi game has the exact same map as NSMBU haha. However the change in conditions is quite fun as well. No wonder it's just half the price of NSMBU.

I have windwaker HD bundled with my Wii U. Should I invest in a pro controller? The Gamepad is quite heavy to play with..

I also bought 2 wiimotes - the mario and luigi limited edition.

There is no hard drive, just flash memory. That's why the console is so small.

It's there. I used it in Miiverse the other day.
