Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Hey guys, really happy with my Mario+Luigi pack, can't wait to get it online as well. However I was looking forward to playing Wii Karaoke U this weekend with some friends, to try out and see if we want to get it properly. The free trial code I got with my WiiU was destroyed so I was wondering if anyone who didn't want theirs would mind PMing me one?

My folks just bought my son a WiiU Skylanders set, which I believe is the basic wiiu. What else should I pick up to make the system more complete. I must admit I've not really paid much attention to the system up till now but seeing the new mario, zelda hd I have to admit I am quite looking forward to playing with the system with my boy.

$250 MK bundle will not be happening. Not until at least a year from now.

Why is it not a great deal to you, though? Do you want one because of the Mario hype and thus have zero interest in 5-10 other great games you could be playing on it right now and the other heavy hitters coming next year or the multitude of features not offered by any other gaming system? Remember you're not buying a PC here where less RAM = worse deal. If that's the case you should probably be buying the system late in its life anyway when it really is priced way way lower. I'm genuinely curious as I continue to not see how so many are screaming for those ridiculously low prices points right now.
I'm interested for Mario hype, another game or two, and the games that it should be receiving later. I'm interested now mostly for Mario hype though, yes. I don't think the Wii U as a set of features is worth much, it seems like a step back from other consoles in almost every regard. All I see is HD Nintendo games.

I currently see it as one great game and a couple of good ones, and I'll pay $250 for that and what will come in the future. I'm not asking you to agree with me, but if you're genuinely curious that's how I see it. As a device I think $300 is asking too much, but for what it is and what it entails (HD Nintendo games) $250 gets me to bite. If I felt like there were 5-10 great games on it (like you do), I would probably buy it for $300 but still not feel great about it. I just don't think the machine warrants that price, personally. I know it's weird to say that and at the same time be willing to spend $250 for less of an offering, but consumer behavior is weird sometimes.

I know it's your opinion, but I'll disagree the console does not feel like a step back, right now I play it more than my PS4, because there isn't much to play on it and when I do it just feels like like a continuation of the previous consoles as opposed to the next great experience. Don't get me wrong I like playing the PS4, but I just feel with what they're doing with others right now aside from the share function, they aren't doing anything that couldn't be done before.

As for the Wii U games there's more than one great game, 3D World is absolutely amazing, but so is Pikmin 3, W101, Lego City, and NFSMWU is an really great port. ZombiU is also an awesome game that gets overlooked. But that's just a few, many say there isn't enough games when in reality there are so many they just get overlooked because they're on a Nintendo Console(I'm not saying you're doing that). I have bough more games on this console than I have bought in a 1 year stretch in any other console and this upcoming year looks to continue on that. Like I said your opinion is yours and this is mine, but if you still want it under $250 well keep your eyes open for Christmas deals, or check if you can get this one $191 Nintendoland Deluxe Bundle http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=729403

I think for the basic set an External Hard drive is a pretty good investment, especially if you plan on downloading any games. Other than that, it's pretty similar to the Deluxe in terms of functionality.

Multiple people already gave you 200,- and 250,- deals. Why keep repeating this? Just buy it already. ^^

I already went to Sam's this morning actually, this deal was probably specific to the store. The Sam's here only had the WW bundle for $299.

Where? Only caveat is that I want a physical game and not the WW bundle. Show me where and I'll buy it, especially at $200. $250 feels like what it's worth, $200 would feel like a great deal.

Having used the Wii U Pro controller for a day now, I've now changed my opinion on symmetrical analog sticks. It's not the dual shock 3 and 4's symmetrical sticks I hate, it's the fact that they're placed in the middle of the bottom of the controller. Ergonomically a terrible place to put them. Nintendo placed them brilliantly as if they actually cared about someone playing games with them. I also like now that I don't have the gamepad's screen shining right into my eyes(seriously, who thought that was a good idea?) when I'm gaming at night.

I got Best Buy to match the Navy Exchange flier that showed the Mario/Luigi bundle for $199. Used the $115 gift card that they gave me for my old 360 and Skyrim game. So I basically got the Wii-U for $100 after trade in and price match.

I'm stoked. Picked up Mario 3D World and I still have lots of Wii games and Wii motes at home. I'm ready!

Having just bought both the system and the Pro pad myself, I've been playing NSMBU and 3D world I have the opposite opinion. As I find the D-Pad more nimble, I don't like where the D-Pad is specifically, the motions are wrong for me for the 8 way normalcy of upper D-Pads. I've always preferred symmetrical, but after using the Pro controller, I firmly prefer the analog sticks in the lower position. /shrug Will have to re-evaluate when I play a game that actually benefits from the analog sticks lol.

Smart man.

It's probably because 99.9 percent of games I play are with the analog sticks. The only adjustment that took me time to make was having the buttons below the right stick.

Hell of a deal you got there!

How long does it usually take for new Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U to to load? Its just stuck. I can't even exit from the initial Wii U disc start screen. Heck I' can't even power down.

This is kind of related to the thread/Wii-U, but also kind of a question about Amazon itself.

So I ordered the Nyko Wii-U Pro Controller for $12.80 (it was on sale) after it went out of stock. It still let me order it for that price and they said they would ship it when they got more in. But I look on the product page, and Amazon's Price is like $30 now. My order still says it's $13, though. I'll get charged $13 and not $30, right since that's how much it was when I ordered?

Also, do you know if I preorder say Mario Kart 8 now with my Prime trial (free 2 day shipping), but then cancel Prime before the trial is up... will Mario Kart 8 still be shipped with free 2 day shipping when it released or will it default back to the 5-7 day shipping that's free usually?

Sorry, I know very weird questions. xD

10 secs give or take a sec.

It seems to take a lot longer than that. Maybe its updating? But the system is already up to date. I downloaded 3D World and WWHD and they seem to load fine, though NSMBU is a physical disc . Maybe it a disc problem.

Edit: Its working now. I took the disc out and wiped some smudges off. hopefully that's what the problem was.

Tip: you can force a power down in such a situation by holding the power button for 5 seconds or more.

if it were updating you'd know because there would a big popup saying it's updating including a progress bar.

I did that it didn't work. Hopefully won't have to do it again seeing as its working fine now.

It has to work. They added that in in one of the first system updates.

Gaf loves ZombiU so much it should make something out of it

What? I dont have any idea. But it feels strange that a game so good only gets praise over here

You know, I did pass not one but two different businesses today offering "Stained Glass" classes...

Hmmm....
EDIT: I think it might go a little something like this;

Let me know how it is. Thinking of getting a black one.

I love mine. The white one cost 8 dollars more at Amazon, so I went with black, and as I feared it's really showing the smudges on the frontside (back is matte black). Otherwise it's a quality product.

Many places are over 8%

249.99 at 8% is an extra $20 = $269.99

This price is only $10 more than that (if your tax is 8%)

Thanks for posting, when I got home to check it looks like the code is already expired. Would have cost me $287 with the $7 shipping.

I'll probably cave in and get it next week with the $25 gift card which will basically cover my sales tax (8.3% is the cheapest around here).

----

Also, for anyone interested I saw a Skylanders Swap Force Wii U bundle at Newegg. It's the first time I saw this bundle and it comes with a $25 gift card and free shipping:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868100149

Keep in mind there will be other retailers next week (Best Buy, Walmart) offering a $25 gift card with the Mario bundle but of course you have tax. Just wanted to throw out options for those of you out there like me ready to jump on the Wii U train.

First post on GAF after years of snooping... Gotta say, after years of 360 for BC2 and NHL multiplayer, and some RPG's, the Wii U has really got me enjoying games again. And my girlfriend is loving it as well which as a 28 year old is a huge plus!

I picked up a slightly used Premium console with pro controller and wii mote, MH3U ZombieU, NSMBU, Nintendoland, and Smash Bros Wii (haven't tried it yet). Picked up a motion plus for the wii mote along with another motion plus controller with dual charging dock and Blops 2 (I'm a BF guy, I don't care whether Ghosts is newer, it's just for the odd quick round as that's really what COD is about to me anyway) and of course SM3DW which has been amazing. SNES SMW from the Eshop, Wii Sports Tennis bought as well.

What else do I need? On my wanted list are: Pikmin 3, Lego City??,

Hey Andrew, I've read a lot of your posts the past couple weeks, thread really went nuts and it's nice to see with all the doomed talk. People don't realize the WiiU isn't a company, Nintendo is. And combine the 3DS and Wii U sales and a new story starts to be told... The Wii U will gain momentum and the 3DS and the money in the bank will keep the company afloat through any tough times. Nike doesn't discontinue their shoe dept because one model didn't sell well at launch.

I'm not sure about W101, heard a lot of good things from users, I just don't know if I can get over the learning curve..I hate to say it, but with work, being busy at home, and some anxiety related issues, I've had trouble with that part of other games. Witcher 2 for example, gave up at the ridiculous map in Vergen and never went back, still pissed about not finishing it.

Playing some quick rounds of COD off screen in between UFC fights, pretty nice..

Sad to say I haven't spent much time with my Wii U since I purchased it a couple of weeks ago. Gonna remedy that during the holidays and play with my family. Can't wait to play 3D World, and Rayman Legends. I also got Nintendoland, which will probably get the most play during that time. I haven't opened Nintendoland yet. My family is pretty competitive, and I don't wanna be accused of having any sort of advantage. Does it have a competitive mode similar to Mario Party's board game, or just a bunch of mini games?

Am I missing something or does the Amazon app not support the Pro controller? Lame if true. Also, why can't you shut off the console with the Pro controller's power button?

i looked at Mario Chase on youtube and it didn't look so good, what in Nintendoland is actually fun with 4 people?

Thats the thing with NintendoLand and Wii-Party U. If you can't round up 4/5 people and try it for yourself no amount of youtube is gonna make you hype for it. That would be like playing a game a basketball by yourself and going "meh, whats the big deal?"

You should be able to shut off your Wii U with any synced controller with a power button as long as the controller is active. Just hold it down for 3 secs max.

Do you recommend Wii Party U, NintendoLand, or both for a competitive family? Which one has the better games for 4 or more people?

NintendoLand is the more polished game but if you have less than 5 people some of the games are a little bland/broken. I think that is the best place to start though, if you can get the people together.

Yeah, I have NintendoLand already, but haven't opened it yet. Gonna play with the family over the holidays, so there will be lots of us. As long as the games aren't replicas of each other, I'm seriously contemplating getting Wii Party for the occasion as well.

Yep, apparently Amazon's app just screws up everything about the Pro controller, so nothing was working. Had to use the gamepad to shut it down. Otherwise I love the Pro controller. Especially for the Mario games. I need to try it more with Zelda.

Since this seems to be the unofficial WiiU thread I will ask here.

I know that purchases are tied to the console but are they also associated to the NNID you link up to your Club Nintendo?

So, If I downloaded Wind Waker on one NNID linked to my Club Nintendo. Then delete that account and link my Club Nintendo account with a new NNID. Would this affect anything?

They're associated with your serial number and your NNID. Always use the same NNID for purchases.
