Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

ive put about 4 hours into the Nyko Pro controller (the one that was on sale on amazon for $12)

i'd say it was a really good buy. feels really good in your hands, alot like a 360 controller. joystick feels maybe a tiny bit too high and the button require a little more force than average. in SM3dW this sometimes leads to randomly doing scratches when youre in a cat suit, or randomly stopping running due to letting up and reapplying pressure. it's not a defect because it happens on X and Y. i'm also pretty sure i never would have noticed except on a game like mario where you are pretty much constantly holding Y or X.

i kinda like the fake analog triggers. although i could see why someone would prefer regular buttons. i'm not sure i'd recommend it at it's current price (30ish) but for 12 it was a steal.

A few months back I bought what's literally the same controller but for Android http://www.amazon.com/Playpad-Android-Bluetooth-PC-Mac-Linux/dp/B0092ZEINO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386339711&sr=8-1&keywords=nyko+android+controller It's a bluetooth controller, I wonder if it would work on the Wii U too. Probably not, but I'll try it on when I get my Wii U.

Someone is offering me a white Wii U and Black Ops 2 + Nintendoland for $200 --- good deal or bad deal? I'm not too familiar with the system but I really want to play the new Mario.

That's pretty good, as long as it's in good condition. Do you have any wii motes? Nintendo land is actually a diamond in the rough, one of the best local multi games I've ever played.

There's nothing rough about Nintendo Land so it's more like a diamond hidden in a box nobody wants to look at.

Offtv play, yes. I understood what you meant.

You did. But that guy clearly didn't: ->

It is even recommended to do so imo

Menu management and map are the reasons.

Nothing else? Wiimote? Pro controller? I don't think it's a "bad" deal, but i wouldn't call it good either. If you do a bit of effort, i think you'll still be able to find some deals, new black (premium 32GB) Wii U with NSMBU + NSLU for 250. Considering the games you're getting with that used basic Wii U, i'd say it is a launch unit... so, what about warranty?

I tried to get on the eBay deal however I missed out only by a couple of minutes. Not finding any better deals in my area.

Updating a wii u that I bought as a gift. If I update all the system apps then restore the system to defaults will the updates remain?

Well, considering the guy likely paid over 350 bucks for that bundle, he might not want to drop the price. I paid 160 (euro's... but Wii U's in store are still priced higher than in the US, regardless of conversion rate) for a white used launch Wii U with Zombi U, NSMBU, two wiimotes and a nunchuck.

No, at least, when i bought that white Wii U (mentioned above, also as a gift), the guy had already wiped the system, and i had to do a lot of updating... so i presume not. Unless that guy never updated his Wii U.

Just delete your account if it is that that´s bothering you. Or stop updating at all. Tell the person who you are gifting to, to decline the initial update and start playing right away. The update will load in the background.

I just realized the Wii U would be a wonderful streaming device for Twitch thanks to the controller: second screen to see the comments, camera, integrated microphone + headset jack compatible with microphone... it would be perfect.

I wonder if it's going to happen, maybe Nintendo will learn a thing or two from the push on sharing and streaming from the PS4 and Xbox One.

Every time one of the other (many) negative Wii U threads gets me down, I look to my current Nintendo backlog, and I feel a lot better.

In Progress
--------
Pokemon Rumble
Super Mario 3D World
Splinter Cell Blacklist

Backlog
----------
Xenoblade Chronicles
Rayman Legends
Mass Effect 3 SE
NFSMWU
Pokemon X

Completed
------------
Windwaker
The Last Story
CODoge
Super Mario 3D Land

Wanted
-----------
MK8
X
Pikmin 3
Bravely Default

Besides Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta, anything else I'm missing? I didn't play much on the Wii after launch, and I never got through ME3 on PC though I still have my ME->ME2->ME3 save file so I'm not worried about the story piece. Just want a fun RPG 3PS.

I'd add Last Story to that list if you haven't already played it.

It won't happen simply because Wii U is missing stuff on the hardware side that would make it possible.

I think it´s possible. They already have a compressed (480p) Video Stream at 60fps at no additional cost. It should be possible to reroute it as an upload with a firmware update. Not sure about 720 or even 1080p though.

Why? The CPU is too slow and the OS is unable to multitask?

Wii U lacks resources dedicated to the OS free to use (I'm not even sure what's left of that 1GB of already slow memory compared to PS4's GDDR5). Streaming is surprisingly demanding.

Although I must say I'm not an expert :P. What I can say though is that I would be extremely surprised if they suddenly made it happen. Requires some level of magic.

The most demanding aspect would be the encoding (i think..) The Wii U has this featured on the actual hardware itself. The compressed stream is already there. the hardware itself allows downloading as a background feature.. so why no uploading?

Up that power consumption, Iwata - we know it's there.

Imagine how streaming would work considering how convulated taking screenshots is on the Wii U.

Also, Nintendo is trying to reduce the concurrent resources in use right now... not expand it. For the technical reason, the PS4/Xbone keeps a concurrent running process that is constantly filling a buffer. Wii U is never going to dedicate any resources to that, it's going to strain the system. If you want to get to the overarching reason why you'd never see such thing, Nintendo exists in a vacuum - the most you'd be able to transmit from the Wii U is text and maybe a picture. It's for your safety.

Is Wind Waker suitable for a 11 year old?

The game is rated age appropriate for 7 and up in Europe if that tells you anything. You might also want to consider that 11 year olds are not babies. They will want to make babies in 2-4 years. Younger kids have played more complex games back in the old days. Don't underestimate kids. If you treat them like idiots, they will become idiots!

He meant difficulty level of the game, not content.

They really need to drop the price on this thing. If I could have bought a Wii U + physical game for $250 I would have done it yesterday or the day before. Now my impulsiveness has dropped a bit and I'm not concerned enough to actively seek one out. Hopefully another deal pops up.

For what it's worth my order is listed as "backordered" - of course, it didn't tell me that until AFTER I paid. Maybe it'll update tomorrow. I'll keep GAF posted.

As long as they get here within a month it's still definitely worth it. Unbelievable price.

update: it's now listed as "preparing order". We'll see how long it takes to get here.

you might want to check if you can still find this deal first $191 Deluxe Nintendoland Bundle.

I don't know that they'll ever do streaming on the U, but they said you would be able to share clips on miiverse of Mario Kart when it comes out. Supposedly it would make 30 sec. clips of your races for you to share.

I'm sure D-e-f- was also referring to difficulty as well as content.

Yup. Both.

There were plenty deals like that during the last two weeks. They also already dropped the price. 299 with an great game is what they're giving you right now and that's an awesome deal already for a brand new system that came out a year ago.

Spending $300 on a Wii U does not feel like a great deal to me personally, and I think a lot of others feel the same way. I hope the price drops after the holidays. A $250 Mario Kart bundle or something could do well.

The NSMBU bundle is $250 and fits your requirements.
Ah, is that retail price? So they're just sold out of that particular SKU then I imagine?

$250 MK bundle will not be happening. Not until at least a year from now.

Why is it not a great deal to you, though? Do you want one because of the Mario hype and thus have zero interest in 5-10 other great games you could be playing on it right now and the other heavy hitters coming next year or the multitude of features not offered by any other gaming system? Remember you're not buying a PC here where less RAM = worse deal. If that's the case you should probably be buying the system late in its life anyway when it really is priced way way lower. I'm genuinely curious as I continue to not see how so many are screaming for those ridiculously low prices points right now.

I'd also like to know this, this is the price point that I have been waiting for.

Newegg use code NAFSAVETENDEC6W will bring the total to $279.99 for the Wii U Mario & Luigi Deluxe Wii U. Newegg doesn't charge taxes in a lot of states. Getting it without tax makes it similar to the $249.99 deal that Target had

Just a quick two cents here regarding ZombiU...

I bought this game a couple of days ago on the endorsement of many GAFers here in this thread. I owe you all great thanks.

I approached the game as you all recommended to: as a pure survival horror game. And I must say what a fine survival horror game it is! I love slowly creeping around every corner knowing that death may be but a mere step away. Is anything there? I'm chilled by the sounds of who-knows-what screaming behind a nearby wall. Does it know where I am and is it coming for me? And amongst this, I'm constantly battling myself; do I turn this bloody flashlight on?!

For $20, ZombiU is an absolute steal. I'm having a blast with it and I can't help but recommend it to those who are still on the fence. Give it a try and play it as it's meant to be played - survivor horror-style!

Cheers, folks.
(and thanks again, GAF)

Yeah I started up the ZombiU demo last night after finishing 101. Aside from the very sensitive analog controls (which Ill have to adjust) I really dug the lighting and atmopshere. Also, the pad controls with inventory and your English buddy talking to you through it like an intercom seemed pretty sweet for how briefly I played. It reminded me of when No More Heroes used the function before boss battles (wii remote acting as a cell phone) and I loved that.

You´re welcome- :) Glad you are enjoying it. Make some screens for us.. if you dare. :D

Yep. Pretty awesome game that actually made me feel tension. Games rarely make me feel tense. Gamespot and IGN are nuts.

wow, how high is sales tax where you live? it's ~5.3% here in Virginia so nowhere close to $30 and with Target card saving 5% it came close to negating sales tax

Tried playing it in the dark...won't be happening again. Surprisingly. no nightmares though.

I love how easily I can just stick all my Wii U stuff in my backpack and take it to a friends house

1. Off TV Fifa Wii U with its glorious lagfree online experience
2. TW101
3. Mario 3D World

FIFA on wiiu is for me the best FIFA Version out there, playing Online off tv while watching tv or even a Football Match is so awesome. Also a quick FIFA Match in bed, on the fly substitution, so usually no pausing during an online Match and if you want Touch screen Features to manipulate your players runs. The game is so underrated, I'm glad there is still an small online community for it. I never was into ultimate Team though, so the missing Features are irrelevant for me

Many places are over 8%

249.99 at 8% is an extra $20 = $269.99

This price is only $10 more than that (if your tax is 8%)
