I've never played one myself, but I'll put that down to most of them never being localized. Which is a shame, as I definitely would play something like that on my Vita.
But I do have Virtue's Last Reward to play.

I have the school days VN, and really it's less a VN and more of an interactive Anime because its all voiced and animated. It's quite well done.
I would consider Phoenix Wright VN's too, people like to classify VN's as porn games but its really anything that's pictures and words in game form of you ask me.
And I also played Katawa Shoju originally as a joke, but it was no longer a joke by the time I finished.

They don't call it Katawa Shoujo for nothing! But outside of the eroge sex scenes, which you can switch off if you're a wuss, the VN is well done.

The most popular "starter" VN is probably Fate/stay night. It's an eroge too but you might it a bit more interesting than falling in love with disabled moe girls. At least it has a story worth speaking of. And mollusks.
In unrelated news, I started watching To aru Majutsu no Index. How they have managed to drag this premise out to 2 series of 26 episodes each, plus a spinoff series of 26 episodes, is beyond my ability to comprehend. Dat crummy JC Staff animation quality isn't helping it either. The original LN is apparently 22 volumes.

It's cutesy K-ON! icons however I have all my H stuff lying on top of my desktop and the folders are clearly marked as such. Since this is my personal laptop and I got it locked up tighter than preacher's daughter as is, I have no need to hide the good stuff more than it needs to be.
But I digress.

I just put everything into one folder just so I don't clutter up my desktop. I want to see Mio.
It's like an endless loop; we'll discuss other things, but we always end up back on K-On.
My PC is about as squeaky clean as it gets. Dark blue background, default small icons, some work scattered across the desktop, not password protected, etc. The internet is my "cloud," but I make good use of private browsing.

Back on topic, finally ordered the 2nd part of season 2 on Blu-ray, that's gonna be a well spent weekend, when I get that.
