You wish it were that simple. I like that some of you think you know the first thing about what I think/feel about this particular issue based on a couple of posts which give you no real context or insight into the real-world discussions I've had (you know, the ones that actually matter), or the opinions I've formed based on my own experiences in Korea (but like any of that matters to you, Peru. All that matters is that YOU lived in Korea. Fuck me for having some of my own perspective.)

You forget that I mentioned that I was once close with the EatYourKimichi crew who, as foreigners, are at the forefront of analyzing and digesting K-pop culture for the international fan base. The discussions I had with them about how this stuff gets made and the kind of people running the show was eye-opening, to say the least.

But I'll allow the K-pop pitchforks to try and peg me as "racist" or whatever. Peru says I wouldn't stand my ground for discussion when I pointed out a video that sexually objectifies the women by placing them in compromising positions that suggest they are orifices to be used.

Yes...because Peru just called me a fucking racist; him, and people like him in that thread, are unconscionably biased, hypocritical fuckwads who don't know the first thing about holding a level-headed discussion on issues like the sexual politics and objectification of women at play in the K-pop industry without jumping on their K-pop crusader horses in an attempt to lynch anyone who would dare bad mouth their precious girl groups.

Fuck that shit. That's why that thread was only worth a drive by post, and two of my shits.

I have no stake in this battle because I know nothing about Kpop, but I'm more likely to listen to the guy that isn't throwing around ad hominems, mass fan/community generalizations, and avatar-shaming. Maybe I'm just more likely to empathize with a potentially misunderstood fanbase after seeing the treatment animegaf gets on the site, and I'm seeing a lot of arguments that mirror those.

I recently watched some story about is not very uncommon Koreans females arriving to USA with job offers but then they see themselves tricked and are almost hostages as sex "workers". I was surprised since South Korea is not even an undeveloped country but I guess this could happen to any people having less means and trying a better life.

This case was all about bad management, their agency didn't prepared what they should. You had one job.

I'm afraid this can happen to women in any first world country. It doesn't have to be about escaping from current conditions or thinking that life will be so much better. It's as simple as a good paying job in a foreign country. That's appealing enough.

Sex slavery and human trafficking are pretty horrible things for someone to be a victim of. I'm guessing it would have been the management getting arrested and the girls taken to hospital/rehab had they been found to be victims.

How dumb would someone have to be to move sex slaves in the open and put costumes and sex toys in their luggage?

Even though I've bounced around a few forums by now, and have been a kpop 'fan' since 2012?

Any male dominated forum that has something for kpop (So /r/kpop and kpop-GAF) often times has a good half of people like I described. So what about me, who enjoys a group that generally has good music, and isn't snivelling to oppa like a submissive? Well, SOL, since apparently Korean hip hop isn't a thing with these fans, and indie acts are all but ignored unless they are IU or AKMU. And said group that I like (2NE1) doesn't conform to the disgusting beauty standards of Korea, and constantly gets shit on by the equivalent drive by shitposting of a 'drug dealer in the group'
What even is this shit? Korean hip hop and indie are talked about all the time in Kpop GAF (And IU and Akmu are not indie wtf?).

No surprises that SolidChamp and Silver Arrows get along, they're honestly not even worth responding to because they have no desire to have an actual conversation. They've already made up their minds and are convinced their point of view is the only correct one - and are more than happy to generalize and insult an entire group of people to make it.

U.S. authorities seem to have taken the members as sex workers after examining their costumes and props, it added.
What the fuck did they find in the costumes and props to make them jump to the conclusion that the band were sex workers?

I can understand their concern about prostitution. But 15 hours? FIFTEEN HOURS? Like two hours TOPS. What the hell were they doing that it took 15 goddamn hours to clear this band?

Individual interviews with at least ten people. Considering they probably had to have a translator present. We are talking about at least an hour per interview.

They probably ruled out prostitution early on and focused on the visa violations.

Man, this thread has gone all over the place.

Either they are gonna sue them for this or just not go to L.A for their future ventures. There isn't much to go by on the articles beside the whole visa issue and the suspicion from customs. Somebody is gonna pay regardless.

Freenude vs Eatchildren, the Gaf battle I been waiting for.

America stays winning in the racism and predjustice rankings

And this thread goes into weird directions. Holy fuck, some posts.
You should see the other thread about the cop that got convicted for those rapes, or the Nadine reveal thread for UC4 thread.

The former's gone on some super-meta tangent, the latter just got completely derailed for no good reason. FWIW this is gonna be my only post in this one too b/c it'll probably go a similar way here too (not checking, haven't checked, just assuming but patterns yield decent predictions).

For what? TSA/customs doing their job? lmao

Actually, they probably thought that they were sex slaves, not just prostitutes. Sex trafficking is a genuine problem in the U.S.

The same thought crossed my mind. It's unfortunate this happened, obviously, but it changes things slightly if the issue of sex trafficking was coloring perceptions.

I smell racism

How old are they? Prostitution? They look like they're 12. I don't get any of this.

You do know east Asian girls, often underage are one of the most trafficked people in the world right? You can say racism, maybe even profiling, but they're essentially being profiled as victims here. Most of the massage parlors, escorts, and other prostitution agencies you see who promise young Asians and virgins are often part of the global human trafficking ring. The same thing would have possibly happened if it was an eastern European band or group who appeared to be super young, had costumes, seemed suspicious.

Cities like Vancouver, Los Angeles are some of the main points of entry for trafficking and prostitution.

This has nothing to do with what I'm talking about tho. Some guy in this thread found them all cute, and for all you know he lives in a place where 16 is legal, and then loads of people jump on him saying underage. But where he is it isn't.

It's still creepy sure, but then I guess that's more them looking about 12.

You quoted me there too, so I feel I should point out that I am in fact not American and I think (not 100% sure) age of consent where I live is 16, making all of these girls "legal" here.

Sex work of course is a different thing, and I don't even want to know if there is anywhere on earth where under 18 is considered appropriate for prostitution, pornography, etc. It also happened in the United States.

So yes, in the context of the discussion, the 16 year old girl is underage.

Not just dumb, but brazen.

Looking dumb and brazen isn't a reason to ignore a possible human rights violation, though.

They were a large group of young women with skimpy fetish outfits in their luggage, being escorted by managers, and traveling with tourist visas...

Nothing about that screams "legit" on first glance.

I assume this thread is what lead to my new tag.

The bolded is hearsay, and the rest I'm assuming is your first-hand knowledge of how sex trafficking operates?

Let's be honest here, I doubt many American bands or artists operate that much differently. The difference is the secruity is more likely to have heard of them.

I actually didn't know any of that. Believe me, this thread has been fucking illuminating.

Only makes select replies in here all the more disturbing.

Checking out of K-pop GAF for good.
