K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT6| Thank You for Love

Tears in the rain
I will really be into k-pop bands, the day there's a female idol thrash metal korean band. I think I'd never listen to anything else again.

Took Sunmi's spot when she left. And yeah, will be playing guitar for the comeback.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Man, you know the WG have been on hiatus for way too long when I can only remember Yubin, Yeeun, Sunmi and of course Sohee. Been stanning Yubin since the beginning of time so I obviously won't forget, the other 2 are due to their solo stuff, and of course who can't forget about the qt3.14 with the rat face? I know their former leader got married to some pastor or whatever and is now living in the Bahamas doing some eternal mission or something. Hyelim on the other hand... it's kinda sad tbh as these past 3 years must've been utter shit for her.

Anyway, yeah I agree with Dice. Knowing JYP, this isn't some hokey bullshit one time thing he's pulling just to get WG back on the scene. He's definitely got a vision to this, and I'm actually kinda excited to see how it'll turn out.

Well it's about time Kim Jong Kook got hitched. I'll ship him with Ailee, according to your wishes obviously.

Hah, the real KJK wouldn't be able to handle her diva personality. Dude's still clearly holding on to the Yoon Eunhye, judging by how he's always careful around women. Not to mention he's like a doormat every time a dominating woman shows up and owns him. Y'all can leave Ailee to me, I got this on lock.

On a serious note, he really does need to get hitched though. I know Gary's a huge player and he's probably got a line of women waiting outside of his house so he's fine. But KJK's been on the marriage rumor train since X-Man... and that was more than 10 years ago lol. I honestly wouldn't be surprised on the day that RM gets cancelled, he'll just drop the news that him and YEH have been at it since X-Man and they've just been hiding it in order to protect their image.

the "Intro to Wonder Girls" playlist Apple Music is pretty good. Listened to it twice already.. knew every song and I miss it so much :'( except Like Money lol.. sucks

Well, I guess someone had to pick up the Brave Bros dance tracks since After School died and Sistar took the most incomprehensible stylistic turn.

I also miss the old HV with their sassy sugar & spice blend, but I do find the newer stuff fun enough and they are fine as hell so that always helps.

A little OT, but how is Apple Music?

I've still got Spotify right now since I still pay $5 for the school discount lol.

It's really something you need to try yourself to see how you like it. First 3 months for free should be more than enough time to decide what you think of it. I like it though. Don't use it for k-pop but they have a lot of it. The "Intro to" playlists are great.

Alice could do solo.
And be good at it, not necessarily successful.

I forget that there's a 3 month trial lol. But a lot of the impressions I've read are basically like yours, in that you need to test it out yourself, especially if you're already with Spotify and Tidal(anybody actually use it? lolol).

But that makes sense. I listen to all the western music exclusively on Spotify now. K-Pop, T-Square, Nujabes and my FLAC, well in this case ALAC, collection are the only music I store in my hard drive these days. I remember about 4 years ago I had a 35GB music folder, but now it's pretty much down to 10GB with ALAC taking up most of the space. It's amazing times imo lol.

Anyway, getting back on topic... saw this on Asian Junkie:

I understand online harassment is shitty and all but sheesh, the delulu is real with these SONEs.

This is catchy. It's also refreshing seeing a solo artist actually dancing, and not just rythmical posing.

Definitely their worst singles, but I'd rather take Like Money despite being very generic. "Like this" still challenges my close tab reaction speed.

Hello Venus - I'm Art (I refuse to call this I'm Ill, what a stupid English title) Performance MV

I miss old HV.

Hello Venus, the illest.

No, but seriously, this is just ok. It unfortunately sits in a middle ground between T-ara EDM bangers, and Orange Caramel ridiculous euro dance tunes, giving it a weird vibe. Try again, Hello Penis.

Like This is great wtf.

On the topic of SONEs, they're legit delusional. This goes for pretty much any teenager that associates with fandom names though. Recently on Last.fm there's been a group of them reporting any photos of SNSD without Jessica to the mods. After a certain amount of reports the pictures get auto hidden from the site until mods unflag them. Been using that site for a good 10 years but I'm about to throw in the towel since the Kpop side of it has been overrun by annoying teenagers.

I just watched both Like Money and Like This again and the one thing that stood out to me the most was the fact that Sohee had a lot of lines. Good grief, like 40% of the singing is hers while the the rest are divided up between Yeeun, Hyelim and Sunye. It kinda makes me wonder how they're going to divide lines with the band thing now.

But anyway, Like Money has a great backing track with unsurprisingly not-so-much Engrish lyrics or pronunciation, but yeah I agree with Ramyeon... Like This is fantastic.

Though if we're really gonna talk recent WG songs, I think I'm gonna give that crown to K-Food Party... fine, I'm only partially kidding. Be My Baby is still the best in recent times.
And yes, I still think it's a Christmas song 4 years later hahaha.

--

Jeez, I find it amazing that these kids are dumb enough to not realize what they're doing doesn't help the fandom in anyway. I'm glad to have given up my SONE membership card last year, it's not worth it imo.

Best recent WG song? 24 hours

Yenny was my #1 but Sunmi stole that spot with this song. Well, they're probably tied tbh
WG rankings are not for me. Could never decide ever since Irony, too hard. They're all up there. Although the top 3 would always be some combination of Sunye, Sunmi and Sohee.

Yeeun's mini is definitely one of the best solo releases of an idol though, it was awesome.

These girls are one step ahead, it's about time they get some real recognition by Korea there.
Their recent album did really well chart-wise (It's still top 20, just short of top 10). And they're already definitely recognised by a lot of Korean netizens as being a step ahead of most idol groups in terms of talent.

Glad to hear that, they definitely deserve it !

Missed this in all the releases. There is a lot going on here (in terms of "how kpop is doing it's thing") worth looking at if Stellar was.

She always had this "dongsaeng growing up" concept, to put it mildly, and I guess since she's 18 now they are stepping it up a notch, but the way they are doing it here makes it confusing as to what is intentional and what is just an incidental outcome of them trying to figure out how to make that evolution happen. The concept and lyrics and dance are a LOT more direct, like far enough that I'd say it would seem to be modeling after early Christina stuff. However, rather than the more "I mean business/this is a big deal" kind of tone Christina and others have had, NC.A is keeping her cutesy and downright playful style here.

On the one hand, I could see how that may be them not knowing how to do the concept without tripping some arbitrary judgement of whatever Korean censors consider an impropriety of conveyed sensual vibes or whatever (since that seems more what trips them, and public derision, rather than specifics) yet on the other hand, the mix of directness and playfulness makes it seem like outright sex-positive messaging, which is quite rare for Korea. (I know from an American view, calling this "direct" is lulz but even American pop did/can still shy away from being this clear with its allusions.)

It could be easy to dismiss it as the former, but then there is a cameo from NS Yoonji, a vanguard of sex-positive messaging in Kpop. That in itself could just be seen as like "asking unni to help teach me how to do this stuff" which is almost certainly part of what happened, but for her to be showing up in the video seems to connote the bringing of all what Yoonji has been about in her promotions. Overall it reminds me of some things you'd only really see in Jpop, but with the method being adjusted for the particulars of Korean culture's different attitudes toward everything involved.

Musically I'd actually say it's her worst, which is sad since her last song Cinderella Time might be her best. This is lacking any catchy melody just drives away at repeating a hook that doesn't hook, approaching a feeling like newer Sistar songs. I much prefer her other stuff that is kind of generic really but at least still fun to continue listening to because it goes places.

So for their goodbye stage on Show Champion Mamamoo switched a bunch of their parts around and it's awesome :D

Finally just a fun song that doesn't rely on gimmicks or some contrived-whatever. This is by far the best I've seen from them, rather natural with them seeming to be more genuinely into it.

Fncking awesome performance!

This just made me wonder why Moonbyul never sings. It seemed normal that she'd never sing in their own releases, but if you watch their performances on Immortal Song and Sketchbook, she tends to keep the mic away unless it's her rap part. So I assumed she couldn't sing at all, but on the contrary, she's actually pretty decent.

Hmmmm... this one definitely has a lot more shots that obscure her guitar playing. That's all I'm saying though lol.

Crappiest WG-band teaser so far.

Says it right in the video title. Hayoung.

tbh, I'm expecting better than AOA Black. Sunmi showed he has better than average bass skills, and Yenny's been composing songs on piano for ages. Yubin can keep a beat - it's only Hyelim that's the unknown for me at the moment.

Edit: Choa and Iron also featuring on Primary's next release of 2 songs:

The title is in Korean...

I keep wondering who Hyelim is and then I remember I just call her Lim lol

that -ugh- feeling when a k-pop video shows up on gaf outside the k-pop gaf thread. Must be what j-pop gaf goes through when someone makes a baby metal thread.

Anyway: I hear the girl I'm secretly having cheating on Yura with in my mind, isn't fake blonde anymore (weirdly don't like real blondes) I will remember it well.

I read that thread a bit. I was out after the standard "It's sexy because porn is banned there" and "Because they idealize western beauty and want to look like us" posts that show up in every thread about Korea.

Edit: Can't believe it took until page 3 for plastic surgery to be mentioned in a thread related to Korea on GAF.
