Kameo for Next Gen?

Development was started at the end of 1999 or 2000, I heard. The original releasedate was autumn 2002 :lol

@Ani Hawk
Old, but this is what you meant, or?
3/11/04: A Last-Minute Kameo

Here's one you didn't see coming! After a lot of thought and discussion, Rare and Microsoft Game Studios have decided to push back the launch of Kameo: Elements of Power in order to incorporate several changes and new features (some minor, some not so minor).

We realise this is frustrating in the short term to all those of you avidly following the game's progress and itching to bust some Troll heads, and we can only apologise for keeping you in suspense, but rest assured that every last one of these new developments is designed to enhance and expand the overall experience. We want this to be the best game possible, so like any delays we may have instigated in the past (surely not) we have every confidence that this one will ultimately work out for the best. Stay tuned for further updates

For fucks sake, a game of this caliber does not take 5 years to realize, even if it jumps platforms. To me this signals of one or a combination of the following:

- Poor pre-production: they really didn't figure out what they are doing
- Poor GDD and/or TDD: the designers couldn't articulate the plan properly in an executable form
- Poor execution: the team was not able to realize the GDD and TDD due to incomptetence or unrealistic targets
- Poor launch planning: the scheduling was not aligned with HW developments

It would need a pretty major graphics overhaul I dont think it could be ready by Xenon launch.
I know it's Rare, but if Kameo was a Xbox 2 launch title and considering the game could have been "canceled" in September, that would give them about 14 months for a graphics overhaul.
We've seen whole games being developed in less time than this.
But yeah, it's Rare :D

A game that has you prancing around as a fairy is not exactly Xbox's target audience... not the best choice for a Xbox2 launch title IMO.

It could also be a good idea to have it at launch so maybe other types of players get interested in the new system ?
A platforming (I know it's not exactly platforming, but hey) game at the end of the Xbox life cycle would not sell because it's not the type of games the current Xbox owners are interested in. But at least on Xbox 2 it would have a chance to actually create a market.

True. I imagine Xbox2 will launch with 5 FPS games :D

Yeah but maybe it could bring in a different userbase and you know MS will have some FPS's ready for Xenon to please their current userbase.

And even then it should probably be well delayed into the next gen cycle. Nice buy Microsoft getting Rare, there is nothing better than Nintendo's sloppy seconds.

Remember when they said Rare would have 5 games out in the first year. Microsoft can be funny too.

things change. anyone with half a brain has figured out by now that they actually had a shift in resources to the XBOX2.

I suppose just because someone makes some offhand comment, the company is beholden to it no matter what? OR FACE THE WRATH OF NBOTS.

Turn her into a Goth dolly and make her scream "You BITCH!" while decapitating elves.

The sales WILL shoot up, I assure you

I love the Rare defenders, what are they called?

If I were Microsoft, this and all the other Rare projects -- with the exception of Conker, since that may actually be coming together now -- that have been in development more than a two years would be scrapped. Not put on "indefinite hold" but totally scrapped with no hope of revival. Don't like it? You can find a job somewhere else.

Didn't both Halos take more than two years to finish?

Dunno what people are smoking but this game looked really nice.

My focus is on Conker though. Probably my most wanted game 2005. Will be a blast both offline and online.

The game looks fantastic, one of the best looking games on the Xbox, but I don't have much faith. Knowing it's from the DK64 team (well, some of them) coupled with the endless delays doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I suppose it could work out though. Has any game with the same sort of endless delays and freqeuent design changes come out well?

Kameo has always looked so shitty. What exactly is the big deal about it? Wait, don't answer that.

Honestly, are you being serious? I don't know if I will like the game, but there is no doubt it is graphically stunning. To say it looks "so shitty" just makes you look foolish.

if thinking Kameo doesn't look "so shitty" makes me blind in your book, then so be it. I think it's gorgeous.

you didnt say "doesnt look so shitty"

you said "graphically stunning"

Rare's Starfox game was better than Namco's Starfox game, but Rare's Starfox game it's also better than Rare's Xbox game Brabbed By The Ghoulies. Starfox Advetures was a good game but not a great game. Kameo wasn't looking bad but it didn't seem a hit. Conker is half a port half a new game, the port part it's great (as it was for N64) but the new part is just a multiplayer game what really don't interests me.

I don't know what the fuck did Nintendo do with Rare's bought money but I also do not know what the fuck Rare has been doing all this years... I'm sure that it would be better for all to still on nintendo's hands. For gaming industry, for microsoft's economy, for rare as a brand, for nintendo and for us Rare lovers.

which is why they stated that is was being delayed for content changes

i think next time we see kameo, its going to look radically different. i also wouldnt be surprised if there was a name change.

yes but I was replying to someone who said it looked so shitty. my point was, i don't think anyone in their right mind could say it looks like shit (and i added my own opinion of it being stunning - but did not expect anyone to have to agree it was stunning, just that everyone should agree it doesn't look like shit). shit is games like Obi-Wan or Animal Crossing. anyway, i do think this is stunning...

Come on now, this game has some of the best graphics on the Xbox.

If we're talking art, which we're not...well that's up to the individual.

it's the architecture the looks nice mostly.... but kameo and various creatures look terrible. I do like that tree though.
