It has definitely grown on me. Still doesn't touch "So Appalled" (Jay-Z and Pusha T both killed it), but it's probably the second best song of the series.

Took a trip down memory lane through the VMA 2010 thread.

Found a link to a version of Runaway with the sampling of BMF that Kanye does, people were asking about it earlier in the thread, so here it is!

Is this illegal? I know Runaway is available for sale, dunno the protocol for things like this :lol

He let "songs ride" on Late Reg and it sounded fantastic. Not a fan of running a song too long just to include a wack verse, or 5.

So which one of these songs are you referring to with about 5 wack verses? At worst, Christian Dior Denim flow, but I like Ye's verse too much to stop listening to that.

Monster is not too long, its packed with hot verses, as is So Appalled. Neither is G.O.O.D. Friday. Power Remix is fire from beginning to end.

Oh, you mean Lord, Lord, Lord. Yeah 7 and a half minutes is a bit ridiculous, but thats the weakest track put out by far. It also has a Swizzy verse, which doesn't give it much merit either.

I just want more musicality with the release. I appreciate the production on all of Kanye's albums, but Late Registration had the awesome string arrangements and piano/keyboard flourishes probably because of Jon Brion's involvement. It wasn't excessive or irritating and Kanye still had the radio singles. I've liked every song leaked thus far but none seem to break the "radio mold" that Kanye says he's avoiding.

I agree, but I also know that Kanye doesn't give a fuck about the radio this time around and has quite a bit of creative power. Though I'm pretty sure he's keeping radio singles too, he is a businessman. Don't expect to see music videos for So Appalled or anything, even if they're making one for Monster.

All of the Lights will be a radio single. Runaway is a radio single. Lost in the World will end up being a radio single. G.O.O.D. Fridays are pretty much getting hot verses together and promoting G.O.O.D. music group as a whole to get exposure, rather than making singles. Those are the tracks that leak, and he's holding back.

I just feel like songs like Good Life, Stronger and stuff were pre-baked to be hits on the radio, where Power just doesn't feel that way. It feels more, erm, expressive. If that makes sense.

Yea, I think productionwise this is a little more creative if you compare it to other singles currently on the radio. Really, I think you could say that about most of his albums though. I just hope he throws a few curveballs in there like the long story about his breakthrough on College Dropout to the awesome arrangements on Late Registration. I don't miss the silly skits on Late Registration though.

Yup, I absolutely loved the strings and piano arrangements in LR. I think thats what really turned me onto him. Then 808s came out and was just pure musicality, amazing. I think its still there for him though, you can hear it in All of the Lights and some GOOD Friday songs IIRC.

I think AOTL is the closest to his Late Registration style just for the horns alone. Musicality with radio presence.

And I guess I'll be buying that deluxe edition. Gotta have this movie. I wish he would put out a tour DVD from his Glow in the Dark tour though, I would buy the shit out of that.

Just listened to that Yeezy Effect mixtape. I've been waiting on a collection of the songs he's put out as I've missed most of them.

Holy shit. If this is indicative of what his album is going to be about, it's easily going to be album of the year. Already, just the music he's throwing away is better than stuff from some rappers best efforts.

Maybe this is just the excitement talking, but looking at other rappers, how many of them have the consistency of Kanye? He hasn't put out a completely shit album, his projects are still hyped through the roof and he's done it all in 6 years.

World class lyricist? Not really, but when talking about the best MCs ever, he's got to be mentioned. Got to.

Pretty much how I feel and why I'm such a Kanye stan. He knows how to put out new and interesting beats that somehow never fail to please my ears. Definitely the best entertainer of my time, IMO, hands down.

So goddamn excited.

Agreed. At the end of the day the music he puts out is so well polished, he's top 5 for me no doubt. I've went back to Graduation recently and god damn the zone Ye was in when did that must have been crazy. It all comes together so well, even with songs so different like Stronger, and Everything I Am.

And as far as production goes, Ye is top 5 of all time for me too, I mean, he literally changed the game altogether, singlehandedly.

Really love the new track. So Appalled and Monster are still my favorite, but this might come close if he releases a mix with a lower beat and I give it a bit more time to sink in.

I guess I'm the only one who hated the voice samples in the VMA performance of Runaway. They just came off as distracting and unnecessary. Also, 8 minutes seems too long for a song like that. But I'll wait for the final version before dismissing it completely... in Kanye I trust, kind of.

I agree with everything here. I didn't hate the samples, but it just seemed excessively overproduced for a song that's simple otherwise. The released single version is perfect. And I'm guessing the 8 minute version has that extra autotune added too. Didn't like that part either, it was borderline incoherent. Do not want, even if Kanye still likes autotune, I don't want it used here.

ugh. I really hope not. The autotune on 808s made me hate that album. It would be cool if Kanye gave Pusha T an extra verse or something to fill the 8 minutes.

I dont think he said he would have no autotune, just that hes back to doing regular rap type music.
