Karin announced for SFV

Anyone still hating on her face?

Not me

I think you mean it doesn't have that generic Anime art style associated with it that like 90% of modern anime have.

But there are many arty styles in Manga/Anime that differ from the most popular one , SF still has a Japanese manga artstyle . Just that its also unique at the same time.

I can agree with that. It's not the typical anime art anyway.

If we're dealing w/ more concrete items, look at SFA3> SFV Mika and compare to SFA3>SFV Karin. The former looks really close to the original in terms of face, the latter not as much. It's not really an anime/not anime thing, I think Capcom wanted to hammer home that Karin's an adult now, as opposed to a 16 yo or whatever she was in SFA3. So they aged her face, whereas Mika was presumed to be a young adult, and she kept her appearance. There's def some inconsistency there. I both blame and credit Ono for having Mika look so flawless in SFV. ;)

Interesting point. I wonder how the younger characters like Makoto, Sakura, Sean and the twins would like in this game. Although, if this game takes place before SF3, and Capcom designed the characters cannon to their timeline unlike SF4, SFV versions Sean/Makoto/Twins/Ibuki would be their younger selfs. I would like to see that.

That's funny, some of the 3s cast would be Alpha-fied.

Japan is spoiled.

OUR fighting game women looked like this:

C'mon, Japan. It's not that bad.
Only because the US loves it some Mortal Kombat. We wouldn't be having this problem we used Skullgirls in it's place as a representative for female designs.

Parasoul>The entire female MK cast
GG Xrd animates the way it does because that's what ASW wants, not because of some style limitations or anything (it felt like you were implying that but I could be wrong).
Unrivaled, really. I wish ASW could do attack animations half as well as Capcom.
We can only hope they evolve in order to differentiate 3D BlazBlue from 3D Guilty Gear in a few years.
Hair is the biggest flaw in sf5 so far. Except for Ryu and chun, it all looks bad.
Yeah, SFV's hair is the biggest problem. Capcom is closer than ever to making truly great designs, though. It's really only a matter of fixing the hair and oversized hands/feet. I can live with the muscles, I guess.
I dunno, looks like animes I watch. Sword of the Stranger, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist. Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie.
I wish Street Fighter looked anything at all like Cowboy Bebop or Sword of the Stranger. Capcom really has to grow up from the steroid infused designs in it's male characters. It's just as bad as the industry's obsession with huge breasts.
Not sure I get most of the complaints, Karin looks mostly fine to me and any issues I have with Cammy and Chun have nothing to do with their faces. I feel its also weird to assume anyone who did have issues with their faces are weeaboo otakus who need their anime injection or something though. Seems a needlessly antagonistic stance to take.
Prepare for six years of this the moment Street Fighter V finally hits the market. It's the FGC's very own circle of life. It's probably going to intensify now that it's perfectly reasonable to claim that Guilty Gear looks prettier than SFV. That is something we haven't been able to say in a while since Capcom went 3D.

It's not the model, it's the hideous hair color, the eyebrows which make her look like she has none, the gold eyes and the lipstick color. If they gave her a subtler lipstick color, changed the hair color hue slightly bluer so it's not so mustard-colored, gave her brown eyebrows and a darker shade of eye color she'd look 100x better.

?

Isn't her face thinner now in comparison to earlier builds?

Looks the same. I like her face.

Is what I was talking about, but she seems to have had at least 3 tweaks. I liked the more mature 3rd strike esque look. Also seemed to tone down the look of her having caked on makeup as well.

Either way, as long as they get a new english voice actor I will be ok with it lol. That was the real travesty. No thanks 14 year old valley girl chun li.

No fighting game will be on the level of Sword of the Stranger anytime soon in terms of looks.
For reasons that 99% of people would never understand. Everybody wants Roger Rabbit animation, but nobody wants their character to animate like molasses (which is great to watch for those of us who love them some looney tunes, but not so great to control at fast pace). Same goes for SotS animation that is highly choreographed (probably not the best word choice) and cinematic. It's like trying to make MMA and Ballet fit together.

lol yeah that's from February. Charlie reveal IIRC. She looks nothing like that anymore. Even the lighting isn't the same.

She's still voiced by Laura Bailey.

Is there audio of Karin's laugh in english or will they keep her Japanese one even for the english track? Is it completely butchered?

I sense a plot thread.

Having the script flipped where Sakura is now chasing Karin for a fight would be awesome.

Judging by the win quotes, she doesn't seem to be grief-stricken. So if her parents did die, it must have been during the events of SFII or IV rather than right before SFV. That being said, as Troubled Bat pointed out in the SFV Roster Speculation Thread, M. Bison did have some beef with the Kanzukis. As such, M. Bison may be the one responsible for killing Karin's parents (again, if they were murdered).

Ahhh I see. Thanks for that info!

Humans love huge breasts, not just the industry. :p

ASW animations have always been bad IMO.

Wow he looks better, now all we need to fix is the hair. Personally I don't mind the hair style but they gotta fix it somehow.

WOW they did fix my dude!

His hair color is the thing that immediately strikes me as odd now. It isnt blonde, it is actually lemon yellow. Like, who thought that was a good idea?

Is that a problem?

Stick your fingers in your eyes sockets, and pull them outward across your face. Then look in a mirror.

Other than your eyes looking weird from that angle, I bet you think your face looks fine too.

Same thing here. Karin looks great, they just need to close the space in between her eyes JUST A TINY BIT. It is why people say she looks weird in certain shots and not others.

Karins eyebrows are too light and there isnt a great enough contrast between her hairline and forehead. Her head and face are ok otherwise.
A costume similar to Cammys or Mikas would have been an improvement too.

This was the same problem Cammy had with her default costume. Also I don't like the lips of the female characters.

The only female face I like in the game right now is Cammy's DLC alt. Everyone else looks bad imo.

Yeah, I wish they'd gone a bit darker with the hair.

Would have matched this better.

So far all of the "blonde" characters are blonde x 9000. Like they're straight up super saiyan banana yellow. It looks great on Cammy. Not so much on Karin or Ken.

Those 2 pics are from old builds. Looks nothing like that anymore. Not even the same angle now.

I wonder if they tried natural hair colors and didn't feel they "popped" enough in the zoomed out angle that you'll normally fight at, so they brightened them up, or if the concept art had a more anime tone to it and worked fine on paper but the models in-game didn't line up.

Vega's the only one they didn't go bananas with. It looks more natural.

That Cammy throw neckbreak sound

It makes me super uncomfortable but it's great for that reason

This looks so much better. Put some more distinct lines on the top of her head so her hair doesn't look like a swimming cap and we in there.
Yes, thank you. They've got these super-duper yellows on top of pale faces with no distinct lines separating them and it looks really fucking weird, especially in bright lighting.

Ken's got a darker face, so it's less about the color (though it is still hella yella), but more the ends/tips that make no sense; they're all solid chunks of Play-Doh. It doesn't look like hair.
kQiwTUo.jpg

The front ones look better in this pic, but there's no reason the chunks in the back should even look like that.

Ken's hair was never as light as Karin's so I left him more color, which also matches his tan.
I think they just need to realize that the art direction they have taken clearly isn't anime anymore, so they need to ditch the anime color choices.

Karin's motion card is up. The most interesting part is that her bio says that she's the head of the Kanzuki Zaibatsu. For those who don't know, a Zaibatsu is basically the Japanese term for a family-controlled industrial and financial business conglomerates in the Empire of Japan, whose influence and size allowed control over significant parts of the Japanese economy from the Meiji period until the end of World War II. Tekken also has this with the Mishima Zaibatsu, the control of which has changed hands over the course of the franchise (from Heihachi to Kazuya to Jin to whoever has it in Tekken 7). If I recall, control over a Zaibatsu doesn't change hands unless extreme circumstances cause it (which is hella common in the Tekken universe, given the dysfunctional Mishima/Kazama family). This means that, more likely than not, Karin's parents died since the events of Alpha 3. The possibility is further emphasized when Karin said that she was the head of the family as a whole in one of her win quotes. That being said, how Karin's parents died (if they did die) would still be a hanging thread that could impact Karin's role in the Street Fighter V story. Their deaths could have been from either sickness, old age, or murder at the hands of either Shadaloo or the Illuminati. If murder was what happened (which I'm starting to think is the case), then we may have Karin's tie to the potential Shadaloo vs. Illuminati plot of the story. This is why I hope that Siliconera is right. If the Illuminati did it (assuming that Karin's parents were killed, leading to Karin's untimely ascension to power), then Urien's gonna have hell to pay. Either way, if said parents were killed, I'm pretty sure either Bison, Vega, or Urien were the ones who did it. Gill doesn't seem like the type to get his hands dirty unless he has to.
Really good critical analysis there.

Makes sense, just like how someone else earlier said it makes sense why SF3 chars haven't been revealed yet, for story-related reasons.

Yeah, I wish they'd gone a bit darker with the hair.

Her hair in that shot is more of a natural Earth tone to it. It looks better in that illustration. It's a bit too poppy/cadmium in-game, same with Ken's and Cammy's.

TBH, I haven't seen a blond IRL with hair like Karin's, Ken's or Cammy's in term of color. Unless they were like a dirty beach surfer hippie bum or something, so it never looks that neat.

Ah, looks like they toned it down some. Looks quite a lot better/more natural now.
