Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

As a parent of a young child, this makes me both furious and sad. That's not how you want your kid to learn a "life lesson". People saying this is funny are pathetic.

That's exactly how I'd like my daughter to learn to not trust strangers... With nothing lost but some time, and nothing bruised but her ego.

completely agree. if an adult sends 2500 dollars to some "friend" thru western union he/she is an idiot. if a kid lends some money or tries something to have it completely backfire in a horrible way its two very different situation. I simply cant comprehend how so many posters cant emphatize with a kid... its a friggin child for Christ's sake

I don't give a crap about how old the person is. It's about whether that action deserved that response. I really don't see how skipping grind warrants having your work destroyed. Or even having double health (that diminishes other players' enjoyment, but doesn't destroy their progress).

Are you cool with Aimbots also? Would you feel bad if a 11 year aimbot using kid got his account deleted in say counter strike or Battlefield?

I'm sure the asshole who did this was doing it for the sake of justice and karma, guys.

I can't believe people are defending an asshole who did somethong cowardly and then proceed to use the word karma while saying an 11-year old kid "deserved it" in the same sentence.

He obviously was doing it for the justification of cheaters in Destiny. Thanks guy for deleting a fucking kids character off of Destiny for cheating, because that benefits me to levels I cannot even comprehend.

Guy's an asshole. Nothing else to it. The fact that it's just a kid makes it that much worse. Shit I started Destiny a month ago and am now a 28. I would physically hurt people who's intent was to ruin that just because the amount of time it took.

That would be affecting other's experience and yes that would be wrong, but in this case he was only trying to level his own character. Also, it's an MMO. Everyone exploits them wherever they can.

or you know you protect her as a parent and she grows up and learns naturally over time what is right and wrong instead of not trusting ppl .

Dude...he's a kid. Did you watch the video? Around the 11 minute mark the other guy joins the kid's chat and apparently tells him he has a way to level up his character instantly. He convinces the kid to share play and he explains how to do it. It was malicious intent from the start and the poor kid fell for it.

If you say 'he should have known better' then I don't know what to tell you.

Yes, I watched the entire video, and I still don't understand how that makes my statement incorrect. If he didn't attempt to cheat, his characters would still be intact.

It's not rocket science...

Don't talk about people's parents, you're crossing a line.
I'm free to talk about the parenting techniques his parents employed. I disregard your line. It's shitty parenting to make your kid to feel like an idiot for lending stuff to a friend. Parenting isn't some sacred ritual that must never be criticized.

If this is karma, you guys have a weird sense of morals. The kid didn't lose his characters by fate or coincidence. Another person did it. Intentional. Because said person is an asshole. Has nothing to do with karma.

You could say he was Destined to be taught this life lesson by this particular douchebag who, coincidentally, was available to troll him at that exact moment in time as their physical selves crossed paths on this Earthly plane through the digital interconnectedness we call the internet.

Sounds like fate to me.

The biggest thing I want to know is does Destiny not have some kind of cloud functionality to back up your characters onto in case of something like this happening? (maybe with a younger brother or something that plays on your PS4).

Well, other than the whole 'he shouldn't be playing destiny at his age' thing, I'm sure bungie in their benevolence can roll back his guardians.

Judging by this post, I am going to assume you have never played a MMO before Destiny.

People cheat in MMO's all the time, and usually get caught, and it ends up in an account ban. The person ends up having to buy a whole new copy of the game and starting over.

I have never played destiny and my wow days are long gone.
But I see your confusion. You do not know the difference between a glitch and a cheat. No wonder you are claiming such nonsense.

Feel bad for the kid :( My 8 and 6 year old boys play Destiny all the time, although with no voice com but would hate to see this happen to them. Some people get off on weird Shit.

It's a lesson that the kid has been given the opportunity to learn without any real harm done. "People can be dicks. You can't always trust people on face value". It sucks, but I'm sure many GAFers (including myself) who played MMO-type games when they were younger have similar stories and experiences. It's something you have to learn from.

I don't think anyone is saying that the dude who deleted the characters is an otherwordly agent of karma. Just that this is always a potential consequence to this kind of behaviour (cheating, trying to game the system).

It happened to me when I was probably his age or younger with Runescape. You can't expect to operate in this imaginary ecosystem where there aren't assholes. Allowing someone access to your account is inherently risky, otherwise everyone would do it. It's a gamble, and it won't always pay off, and sometimes brutally so.

It's happened to me too. But I will never accept this behaviour. We shouldn't tell ourselves it's "okay" or that it's our own fault. Someone still played us. It's only a videogame, but fuck me if doing something like this isn't proof the person is probably shitty IRL too. Unless the other guy is 11 too. But even then, we shouldn't say "he had it coming, " deserved", "karma" etc.

Gitch abusing is cheating, that's common in most MMOs ToSs.

That's not shitty parenting. If I kept doing stuff like that, I would've kept getting my shit stolen with no recourse.

Being a good parent is not just about making your kids feel amazing and special all the time, it's about getting them prepared to deal with the world.
I do t get why you think the only way your parents could make you learn a lesson is to make you feel like an idiot. There are better ways than making them feel like an idiot or always make them feel like they are amazing. These are not the only two options.

Saw this in the comments section from someone claiming to be the kid, had "Kramer" in his username along with the uploader of the vid so maybe it's legit.

Hay guys my name is actually Henry, I am currently 11 years old and just got a ps4 for Christmas I legitamitly ranked up my warlock to level 31, some of you are haters but some of you are supporting me, I accept both.i indeed was trying to cheat but he convinced me into doing it right before the video started, he currently has a YouTube and does this everyday... I accept the fact that I got 'rekt' not so many people are supporting me so I kind of feel discouraged do can you please leave out the hurtful comments I tried to cheat yea I deserve it, but it doesn't mean you have to say mean things about me... Thank you for your time

Well that poster doesn't seem to think it's a big deal, he even said double health would be fine to him.

Also, let's get this straight. I'm positive 90% of the people who said they don't feel bad for him also don't think it's cool the dude fucked his account up and deleted things. That's still fucked up, and that dude is a asshole.

I still can't feel bad for what happened because this kid was knowingly doing something he knew he shouldn't be doing. Lesson learned, and a rather harmless one at that.

What happened to your empathy? Or is making personal attacks on his mom and dad cool for you now.

I'm not gonna say my parents are perfect, but I come from a working class family, I was going to public school, living in a shitty neighborhood. A Gameboy was not some trifle to treat with no value, it was expensive and they had to work hard to get it for me. I had to learn the lesson to value things and be more responsible. You calling it shitty parenting with little to no information is just foolish. I'm done with this thread.

For real. The guy who deleted his account was a total jerk. But people are acting like this is some kind of tragic atrocity when the stakes almost literally could not be any lower.

Not trusting strangers on the internet.

Strangers. On the internet.

he shouldnt. dont you think him crying and those moments already taught him that lesson.?? and you protect a child and make it right so they know there is right in the world too. He already suffered enough . Anyway im bailing on this thread some of the opinions are seriously making me super pissed off and angry on how ppl think kids are already adults.

While it sucks that this happened to that kid, its a reality of the world. It sucks. Even if only 1% of people are assholes, you can't trust anyone because you can't know if they are in that one percent.

I'm glad that all that happened is he lost some characters.

Things could have gone down really differently irl and now he's learned about trusting other people.

This is a lose win situation.

Shouldn't be doing according to who? Nobody cares about these glitches. Bungie doesn't even care. Why are you acting like a kid doing a glitch in a video game is like him doing some actual mischievous act? The kid wanted to skip an extremely boring grind.

So who is this victim nobody is noticing? Who am I failing to perceive? If there is truly no victim, then it isn't cheating.

Like I previously said, I haven't played Destiny, so I don't know all the details about the game, but in other MMO's, cheating can have an adverse effect on the game. It can give players and edge in PVP(if the game has it), destabilize in game economy(if the game has it), but mostly boils down to just right and wrong.

at first I laughed out of astonishment...but then I remembered when I was young and tried to take a short cut in life.

oh, early 2000's... how I'd like to forget thee.

Do you think children should be tried as adults if they commit a crime?

Man, thats pretty fucked up.
The tears that kid was shedding wasn't about losing his characters, it's realising he got played. Innocence lost and all that shit.
really sad for that kid and having to learn that lesson. Rough.

Are you cool with Aimbots also? Would you feel bad if a 11 year aimbot using kid got his account deleted in say counter strike or Battlefield?
At no point did I say cheating was good.
There are two issues here, as I see it: 1. Whether the person serving the punishment is in a position to do so, and 2. Whether the punishment fits the crime. The answer to both seems to be obviously no.

I'm also not arguing for coddling. Sure you need to learn not to be gullible. But there's an important difference between "that really sucks, kid. Better be more careful in the future" and "serves you right, dummy."

That's exactly how I'd like my daughter to learn to not trust strangers... With nothing lost but some time, and nothing bruised but her ego.

And I want my daughter to learn from me telling her what can happen. Not losing something she holds dear and ending up in tears over it.

I'm just saying it's gaming equivalent of approaching a lion and being angry that you got mauled. You have to operate with the knowledge that this kind of thing is something that can and will be done to you if you allow enough opportunities. It's the reason why you or I wouldn't post our GAF account details on 4chan, because we know it is unlikely that someone would take over our accounts and make insightful, funny posts. It would be nice, but you can't expect that.

I'm just saying that a MMO player has to be aware that this is one of the many consequences of being loose with an MMO account, and among the likeliest.

and when you were 11 your concept of right and wrong was super developed? And you understood everything? the world?

I don't need to know much else. Making your kid feel stupid, your words, for lending their friend borrow it is shitty parenting. I didn't say they were shitty parents. I said that is an act of shitty parenting. Every parent is guilty of shitty parenting because parents are human and make mistakes. if there is a "Big Book of Parenting" and it said "Make your kid feel like an idiot if he loses his expensive toy by letting his friend borrow it", I'd say that's some shitty parenting advice.

Sucks for the kid but that's the dangers of playing online. If he isn't old enough to accept the risk and he isn't old enough to avoid them then he isn't old enough to be playing with them.

He also isn't old enough to play the game per it rating but that's another discussion.

Again, there is no such cheat. Watch the video. It's just a guy convincing a kid to share play with him for whatever excuse.

Why does it matter if it exists, the kid clearly thought it did. Just because it's not real doesn't make the intent any different.

I have no idea what the fuck you're babbling about.

It's not rocket science...

That's your interpretation then. I see it like this: 'If the 11 year old kid hadn't been tricked by an older guy, his characters would still be intact'.

I think the fact that he got tricked into something is more important than the perceived cheating. But you see it differently.

Why does it matter if it exists, the kid clearly thought it did. Just because it's not real doesn't make the intent any different.

I think the intent of the older guy matters more than the intent of the kid, that's my point.

So if bungie doesn't care, why don't they let you just skip it then?
Why doesn't Bungie fix the glitch that lets you defeat nearly every boss with ease? Why doesn't Bungie fix the quit/return exploit? Why doesn't Bungie fix the idling in Playlists exploit? Why doesn't Bungie fix the glimmer farming exploits? Why doesn't Bungie fix the solo-able raid exploits? Why doesn't Bungie fix the invulnerable zone exploits? Why doesn't Bungie fix the enemy respawning exploits? Why doesn't Bungie fix the double bounty xp exploit?

Because Bungie doesn't care. They made a big grind ramp and if you find a way to get past the grind, good for you and enjoy the saved time.
