Killer Instinct Season 3 |OT| Super Microsoft All-Star Bros for Xbox One & Windows 10

Sooo next batch of Ultimates..when?

End of this month, they are going to show videos of each one leading up to release on a weekly basis.

edit: it may be reaching a bit but if KI has a presence at E3 this year that might be the more opportune time to announce dates and show the complete wave 2 line of figures.

edit: anyone notice something interesting about the xbox rewards members survey for April...

I'll be pretty surprised if we get a KI3 this soon.

I'll be even more surprised if it was leaked through a damn survey lmao

Now I'm excited for E3!

I hope they keep their W10 crossplay initiative with KI3. EDIT: Or whatever they call the new KI.

I dont get it. The current KI is already KI3 and if it's a follow up to the reboot it's KI2. They probably meant season 3 but still doesnt make sense as season 3 is already out.

They could be planning to release a full blown proper $60 video game and call it KI3. I can easily see that happening with the success of current KI.

Well Season 3 has been out for quite a while now, and that says coming soon. Could be a typo or a work-in-progress title but considering they're talking about games that are yet to be released, I think it's something new.

I'm still hoping for a chance of KI3 being showcased on Scorpio by the end of the year. If development isn't advanced enough and they can't make it to e3 I expect they'll have a 4k patch for KI to keep the series relevant and buy them more time to finish the new entry.

On the official forum Rukari is indicating it was an oversight or goof by whatever random person who populated that survey and who does not know what's going on.

AKA it's what they always say when this stuff slips out.

Fwiw, these were his replies:
Bad wording. Who knows who created that survey and whether or not they actually checked titles before inputting them. My guess is it was a reference to Season 3.
Last I will drone on about this:

You got a straight answer. Whether or not you choose to accept that the simplest answer is most often the correct one is up to you.

"But it came from Xbox."

Do you know how many folks work with Xbox in some way, shape, or form? Thousands. Maybe even 10,000. You think we all work in that sort of hive mind cohesion? Pffft. I don't even know what the person across the hall is working on.

So without wasting any more breath I will tell you that this was an oversight on some random person's behalf. No idea who, but clearly they have no insight as to what's going on in our world.

The game has been successful for MS against all odds. It would be silly to think they don't have plans for it with Scorpio coming. If not a full blown sequel then at least an update of some kind.
I'm not jumping on any hype train but in situations like these any denial from any part of MS means little. They spend a lot of money planning these things out. If they can mitigate damage done to that of course they will.
I might be completely wrong, we will see.

That's cool, I still believe KI4 is coming sooner or later.

They would be stupid not to. Give Iron Galaxy a good budget, take the DH engine and give it a good clean up, make a new UI and mechanics.

Then just carry on with a new season 1. EZ PZ, they have the groundwork to make a new game, if they waste it then they waste a diverse IP.

Yeah, if companies want to keep something secret until reveal, they're not going to admit to a slip up, but at the same time on the forums there, even when they have flat out refuted fan theories about some of their answers and told people not to read anything more into it, people didn't believe them and thought they were being coy only to be disappointed later, and they came back saying, "we told you not to read anything more into it". Based on that, I'm going with Rukari's answer that this was a goof, until we actually get a legit announcement.

Thinking about what a possible sequel might bring, would anyone else not care if they dropped the r/p/s style-combo break system and went with something more standard like resource-based breaking similar to MKX or Injustice? Honestly the combo system has never been my favorite thing about the game, and I wouldn't be sad to see it go, even if the whole cccc-ombo- breaker thing is part of KI's original identity. I'd be 100% happy if it played more like a Street Fighter game but with KI characters. I feel like with the current game they did the original vision justice, but a sequel with the same thing would just get stale. I think it some ways it hurt the game with a lot of players getting frustrated with the guessing game aspect. The art, characters, and music, along with the SF-style play outside of combos are what I care about most.

If it's a full blown sequel and not an addition to the current game? I'd prefer they move to UE4 and let IG come up with their own mechanics. The IP remains intact but they aren't tethered to any particular combo system. I can understand (and appreciate) that direction for the initial reboot since it has been in hibernation so long.

Now that they have fufilled that and then some I say let them run wild with it. The combo system / breaker system is the thing that I feel kept a lot of people from spending much time with the game.

I see a lot of people who love the character variety and design but can't stand actually playing the game.

Yup. Agreed.

The last part expecially.

I'm also torn on IG because while obviously they are talented in character design (Hisako,) they have also stumbled on a few this season (Kim Wu...) Some people would be happy playing a fighter with clay figures if the mechanics were amazing but I need visual and mechanical appeal.

Hmm, I have no idea what they could change with KI without losing its identity through its gameplay mechanics.

I've fallen out of the loop with the KI community for a while, so are there any changes (drastic or otherwise) that people want to see? Do people want the combo/counter breakers removed? Different art design? Make KI into Smash? etc.

I think a more free form combo system ala King of Fighters / Guilty Gear and removing auto doubles would provide the same satisfaction of landing large combos but with a bit more thought put into it. Combo breakers can stay as well but really need to be tied to a resource.

I'm thinking that's a goof. :P

And if they moved the game to a new engine, that wouldn't mean they'd have to re-do everything from scratch. They could totally re-use all the existing character models and animations, probably the stages too. I think Final Fantasy XIV kinda did something similar when it got re-booted, they moved to a far better engine but kept the character models, and the tech that makes clothes morph to fit them.

I think removing auto-doubles/combo breakers would be a big mistake. Just give the player more options to create a combo but don't take away the few things that distinguishes KI from other games. If some don't like it then fine play something else..KI has sold phenomenally well despite its tough situation so obviously people like what it brings to the table.

That said...combo breakers are WAY to frequent...IG has to fundamentally change how combo breakers work so they don't get spammed so much..just make them resource dependent and be done with it.

A lot of those would look better, if the character models and especially the faces would be better. But I guess it's and old game now.

As frecuent are the combo breakers, are the chances to start a combo. Do you want a Marvel 3 scenario when you take a full bar in one combo? Because with some characters that entirely possible.

Even if combo breakers were attached to some sort of resource, I can imagine that combo damage and combo length would be scaled to compensate.

Still, the combo breakers and combo system are what gives KI it's identity, from a mechanical standpoint. I honestly can't think of ways to change the combo breaker system outside of the changes it's had over the course of two seasons. For better and worse, the current system in place IS Killer Instinct.

If we do get a new KI game with new mechanics, then I'd be interested in seeing what gets changed, if anything.

Getting rid of combo breakers? What am I reading?

Elaborate combos, breakers and counter breakers are what sets KI apart and gives it its identity.
