KILLER IS DEAD |OT| LOVE AND KILL

Agreed. It's not bad, but a wasted opportunity.

A lot of included soundtracks in games, no matter the edition, are actually arranged tracks. And by arranged, they mean "here's like 5 songs so you'd actually buy our soundtrack". Soul Hackers, Bravely Default, etc etc.

At least this is an actual OST. Atlus used to do that. They really dropped the ball since Persona 1 PSP.

So I've been out of the gaming scene for a while, and I don't really understand what this is, but Killer 7 is one of my all-time favorites. So I can deal with "weird" (we'll call it "unique and underappreciated") gameplay/controls provided they fit in with the larger vision and commensurate atmosphere created by equally "weird" sound, visuals, and narrative, as with that game.

So, is there any connection between this and that besides the title and studio, at minimum a similar style and feel? If not, should I try it anyway on the cheap?

It's NMH with a Killer7 shade of storytelling, IMO. It isn't quite as serious or thought provoking as K7(especially not the latter), but it definitely has its moments.

This one has 25 tracks though, that's why I thought it was complete.

Bought this earlier this week during the GS sale, just beat it a moment ago.

Read that KiD story topic and surfed some wikis for a bit so I guess I understand the direct motivations for all the characters' actions during the game for the most part. The world setup and premise are still confusing as hell of course. Felt like even with the super confusing plot, if it had just been fully fleshed out within the game the whole thing would've been much better.

Despite this though, from a combination of the unique cel shading, characters, and dialogue alone this is probably my favorite Suda51 work. Do wish I could've seen the agency cast in a less-surreal and more down-to-earth realistic setting of a game though. Overall this is the stuff that cult hits are made of imo. Was definitely worth the money and will probably keep its place in my collection

One other thing was Natalia kept calling me during the middle of almost every mission telling me I was late (and occasionally Betty). Was that supposed to be part of the story or was it just the game telling me to go do her gigolo mission (even though I already did hers at the beginning and got the drill)? Also how do you get the 4th subweapon, do you need to do all of Scarlett's challenges?

This game can be glorious at its best. When you're pulling off counters and parrys left and right, combined with the fast pace and visual effects, it's really good.
Love how you can dodge gunfire and then counter by dashing towards the enemy like a bullet and slicing it to pieces. Gameplay sure isn't one of the game's issues, at least for me.

Finished it. Campaign is pretty short but fortunately there are lots of side missions plus the dlc mission which I haven't played yet. Had a lot of fun with this, boss fights in particular made the adrenaline go up.
It's a shame about the screen tearing, it's almost unbearable in some parts.
Taking a look at the artbook now and it's very nice, really dig the artstyle in this game.
Epic music choice for the final boss lol.
Wouldn't recomended it at full price but it was worth the 30 something euros I paid for the fan edition. It does have the typical replay value of these kinds of games, trying to beat your score can be addicting.
I didn't understand anything about the story. Zero. I don't like it when games spell it out and I liked how crazy it was but some more explaining would've been welcome.

I did one of the gigolo missions a second time and got a longer cutscene at the end. Reward was a crystal since I already had the weapon.
Was expecting giggolo missions for Vivienne and Mika but guess not.

Here's a little something funny I've been meaning to post in this thread at least.

From a technical standpoint, the game just lacks polish, the screen tearing is unfortunate as it hurts the game's awesome visuals, there were no frame drops from what I recall playing but I believe it doesn't run at 60 FPS.
Now I bring this up because of how Walking Dead was nominated as a GotY 2012. I admit to enjoy its story and characters, but damn if it wasn't a janky mess with the freezing and stuttering, frag's sake if it would take a few more MBs to fix this crap I would've welcomed it.

Put simply I find WD's jankiness to be far worse than whatever technical issues KiD would suffer from; if such a game can be nominated for GotY 2012 (while having minimal 'gameplay elements') then KiD could be a worth a shot at GotY contender.

2ndly, the gameplay while simple and basic is satisfying much like how 'Two Friends Play' have stated in their Let's Play of the game. Nothing like continuly building up that meter to strengthen Mondo's attacks, then dodging and countering back with rapid slashes. Button mashing hasn't been this satisfying in a long time for me.

The way the story is portrayed is rarely seen in video games, but I've always been one who likes unorthodox story presentation anyways (or I'm too used to Grant Morrison's writing that it clicked with me without every bothering me much).

Characters are awesome, Mika may be your typical hyperactive happy-go-lucky anime girl but she did indeed bring a smile to my face and more optimism to what would be a dark story. Also it has a Rainbow Unicorn.
Seriously the lack of a stage where you play while riding the Rainbow Unicorn is a greatly missed opportunity.

That's it off the top of my head for now, but I'm voting it as my GotY 2013 among the top 5 on GAF, I'd understand if you guys wouldn't vote and indeed I may be the only person to vote for it but at least I want it have some presence though bleak =P

In closing.

The story is...interesting. It took two playthroughs before I could even make an attempt at deciphering what the hell was going on, and even that's a guess. Suda, you need to ride in here with your trusty steed and explain the plot to us in broken english.

Nice write up. Youre a good guy Tizoc.

Got this for Christmas and have only played through three missions. I'm loving the vibe of this game, though I feel there is a disconnect between Mondo's voice and appearance. The soundtrack is great and the story and characters seem to be as crazy as any Grasshopper game. The soundtrack seems up to YA's usual standard, and the art style is really cool, though the contrast between dark and light colors is a bit jarring at times, and the screen tearing can be annoying at times. It seems like there will be more depth to the combat than the past few GM slashers. I've heard the campaign is short, but how short are we talking? How does it compare to Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damed? Both those were pretty short too so I hope it is at least as long as them. How many missions are there?

Theres 12 episodes plus all the side content. It's about as long if not a little longer than Shadows and Lolli, but then again those games take me average of 12-15 hours first run because of exploration and combat testing etc

Killer took me longer because of all the time trying to woo the ladies and the retries on the gigolo missions, plus grinding through the excellent Episode 51.

Way I see it, KiD's stage structure is thus:
Ep. 1 and 2 are tutorial levels.
Ep. 3 is the starter level
Ep. 4 is from where the game starts to kick in IMO

I personally think the game is shorter than Suda's past 2 games, but I won't be able to confirm this until i replay it again (currently waiting for it to go on sale on US or EU PSN since digital ver. is 5ish GB which is close to the install size of the disc ver.)

Thanks for the replies guys. Just finished episode 4. The gameplay definitely feels like an evolved version of NMH while the soundtrack, story, and visuals seem like a combination of NMH and K7, leaning more strongly towards the latter. Gonna play lots more today.

Anyone gonna make an OT for the PC version? I'd make it but I'm a bit of a lazy person with the structure of my OTs =V

Woah, 13 GB?!
The game is 5-6 GB on PSN!
Where did you find those specs?

Steam page has the details and I had the specs info for a month already. The only thing that changed was the date of release and the cards implementation.
