I think Ninja Theory could make a pretty good sequel to Heavenly Sword if they wanted to. Just make the game longer, the combat system deeper, add a block button, have more interesting enemy/boss types, and lock the framerate at 60FPS. The potential is there, it'd be a shame if they gave up on the franchise after coming so close. The world and characters they created is great.

Yes! I would love to see this engine being used for a third person shooter. Socom would look pretty sweet I think. Maybe MAG will use some of this tech?

I'd love to see a full featured Socom IV with a huge leap forward for the single player and using something similar to this KZ2 engine, or atleast elements of it. Just make it very tactical and give the single player 1-4 player online co-op. That would be a dream game for me. Top it off with the multiplayer being a more refined version of Socom 2 running smoothly with some actual environment/map diversity.

Syphon Filter IV on the other hand could benefit from using parts of this engine and parts of the Eight Days animation/cover system. The guys who did that could probably do a good SF game. Then again it's easy to say use this engine and use that tech. I just want these games on PS3, no matter what engine or tech they're using.

Some great videos, thanks for posting these! :) I took some snapshots from some of the videos as well. Killzone 2 looks amazing! I really like the detail in the first picture here where the blue light from the "vest" (or what it is?) actually reflects on that guy's face.

Yeah, no doubt this game is a very sharp looker. Just some of the effects like the blur and soft shadows I'm not feeling so much but it doesn't ruin the visual experience. I want to see more and I want to hear more of the enemy variation which is a must for me in my shooters.

Bandana dude's expression never changes and it bothers me. It's like his face is made of wax.

The black guy has the best model but the worst voice. Strange that.

There are apparently 15 different types of Helghast, not including the bosses. Should be a pretty good variety.

Pretty much agree with everything, but I would also like to see Sony Santa Monica work on a 2nd franchise, much like Insomniac got Resistance and Ratchet and ND got Uncharted and Jak.

Also Sony Bend pretty much brought my interest back in the SF franchise after their PSP iterations, I agree that the game would benefit from the 8 Days tech. A new SOCOM by Zipper please.

15 diffrent enemy types not icluding bosses, thats a nice varitey imo.

GG already said there's a shader glitch on bandana guy that make his face look like plastic, facial animaiton is not yet complete in the cutscenes and the voice acting there is just placeholder.

sometimes I felt GG is having a roundtable discussion on how they're going to owned the hater.

Sometimes 'It's a little broken at the moment, we'll fix it before release' really DOES just mean 'It's a little broken at the moment, we'll fix it before release'.

I can't see that being possible. I'm sure it's a misunderstanding.

Haven't a couple of people pointed out that the Preview code is not the latest build by any stretch of the imagination?

I think Syphon Filter is due to significant reboot considering the ending for Logan's Shadow what better way for a reboot than debuting on next gen hardware for the first time? so I'm pretty confident Syphon Filter ps3 is in the plan somehow.

unless they make that ending with the intention to send the franchise to die, which is just stupid.

Killzone looks really good. With the timespan of development for the game, I can't wait till the Santa Monica and ICO's team showcase their games. Too bad Sony Japan has been very lackluster in news.

Haven't played LS yet but DM was great...the last good SF on consoles was SF2, 3 and OS sucked, but Sony Bend has gained my trust again.

Sure but a day and night difference, really?

Well I'm sure the preview took some time to make, by the time it went out it was outdated. Now that we are seeing it, its likely VERY outdated.

We have seen more (really most all I'd bet) of the preview code, I don't think that happens with most games. Look at games like PoP, we saw very little of that. It'll be night and day for us since we have seen so much.

I think a little polish here and there can really make a game look night and day. take the cutscene for example, the current build is great, but there's still work to be done with voice acting, Natko's skin shader, sound mix, and probably most important thing, facial expression.

we're so used to wooden facial expression in most video games that we often tolerate them unless they're really really bad. the one in the preview build is not bad except for Natko, but if they improve that even further, I can see the overall effect to be night and day.

I'm not expecting drastic chance in lighting and texture during gameplay. but the cutscenes probably the one that leave the impression that it looks night and day simply because the current cutscene is not finished.

edit: or maybe day and night difference is a literal meaning that they decide to change the setting for some level from day to night or vice versa:D

I am expecting the Team ICO game to be amazing, but I don't think it'll look that good raw graphics wise (are wise is another story). So far we have seen nice art from Sony Japan this gen, but somewhat lackluster graphics.

Now GOW3, that'll just be a jaw-dropper.

In addition builds sent out for review are the latest STABLE build, rather than the absolute bleeding edge latest code. So, the Preview build will have been the latest really very stable and well-tested build at the time that it was sent out.

Right away, I feel that the Helghast are plentiful, yet somewhat unsatisfying to fight against. For one, their lack of aesthetic diversity hinders my enjoyment of defeating them. On top of that, the overall character design also seems questionable -- red eyes contrasting dark uniforms make them unnecessarily stand out. In turn, from a player's perspective, the Helghast eyes become the only feature to watch out for on the battlefield -- which distracts from their overall visual design and makes them all blur together into a sea of red eyes that feel one and the same.

I dont know what to say here.....

The whole GG can't make fun games thing is one of the most horrendous comments I have heard. Fun is in the eye of the beholder, I though KZ1 was "fun". He may not have but seems to think that he is the standard.

Its just a silly thing to say. Say "I don't think its fun" not "I don't think Guerrilla Games excels at making games "fun,"" Thats a blatant insult.

Some of the 1up people are ok, the others think they are demigods.

Released right now, it's a solid effort with some annoying glitches that could garner a B. But since Guerrilla has a couple of months left of pure polish, I'm hoping it's time used wisely -- and I'm looking forward to the end result come February

:lol

I have a feeling we're switching sides to Helghanst, that would be pretty shocking.

Highly highly doubt it since it was already mentioned the place would be
on a spaceship

The "black guy" is Rico and he's most likely latino/black. His voice is good in the one video that I did watch from that site. The other stuff in the now removed video was some place holder voice work mixed in with the final.

One of the devs mentioned that Bandanna dude's face was a bit wonky in the first portion because of a shader issue which is now fixed.

1UP is garbage, the only time I've been to their site was to try to get a LBP code.

I used to enjoy 1up but its getting more and more devoid of value with each passing week.

I don't know if they are simply pandering to some majority fanbase or simply because they've become so jaded. I don't even listen to 1up yours anymore.

I think some of you oughta realize that the "KZ2 engine" is more than likely tailor made for KZ2's specific needs, it's not an all-purpose for all genres engine...
Well first, there's no middleware that is all-purpose one size fits all. UE3 is likely one of the worst examples for that.
Second, the entire idea of generic-one-size-fits-all technology is one of the most(if not the most) misguided concepts in history of game development (and by extension, software development at large).

That said, at least KZ2 tech comes with a competent rendering engine, something that couldn't really be said for UE3 back when everyone was scrambling to license it.

Seems like your tag has intimidated everyone else from posting.. but I got a question for you, do you then think that reliance on the UE3 has hindered developers?

It was confirmed they will let us hold instead of toggle for iron sights and crouch.

Hmm interesting. Though I didn't have that much of a problem with it as toggle, I guess hold would be much more preferable.
