be aware that those triggers may be too curved for your liking. They're not very comfortable if you have both index and middle fingers on the L1+L2 and R1+R2 buttons at the same time (which in KZ2 is pretty much a necessity).
Not really. I just alternate between L2 and L1 when I'm in cover and want to shoot from ironsights. Works great in the demo. It probably leaves you exposed a bit more, but I think it's kinda fair to be more exposed when you want to use ironsights anyways.

I got to play the demo twice before I left for school today.

I'm a little upset that the demo itself is barely 10 minutes of play, but other than that I'm extremely impressed (if, say, not shocked -- I've seen so many videos of this level, I actually felt like I had played it before).

The controls are a non-issue for me, but that's primarily because I'm one of those few who played Killzone 1, and the "heavy feel" is actually, well, much heavier in KZ1. Here, it's much simplified -- and I agree with those who recommend NOT fucking with the controls. I did, just to see what the dynamic was, but because of the movement acceleration, it just doesn't work as well if you mess with it.

Needless to say, I'm still getting "used" to them, but the difference in my preformance between the first and second playthrough was very significant. It just takes some play time to "get it." So long as you're not consciously trying to play it like CoD4 or something, you'll adapt quite quickly.

Visually, I needn't really say anything. The game is outstanding, and runs extremely well. I couldn't be more impressed.

I put the sensitivity all the way up and I like the way it feels. By my second playthrough it felt pretty darn natural.

But if you've chanegd the button layout, like I have, and you aim with L1 it's really clumsy to try to hold the L2 button down at the same time.

HOLY CRAP, you must play the demo in RUSSIAN! :D

I swear to everything, Russian voiceovers are better than English, it's just so damn awesome, even though I can hardly understand anything.

Anyone who's played STALKER can tell you that being surrounded by people talking a language you don't understand does a hell of a lot for immersion, too.

Is it? I hate using my middle fingers for triggers. :( Feels so unnatural. I can't believe there's no option to toggle crouch. How difficult is it to program something like that in? It's so simple and so useful, and it also gives you more control options since you can have that same trigger do something else when it's being held down (like in Resistance 2 - click L2 to crouch, hold to run).

i'm still debating getting them. I pretty much always have both index and middle fingers on L1L2R1R2, so I'll have to think about it. I wish I knew someone who had them so i could try it out.

I understand Russian a bit - enough to understand simple commands they give me, but not enough to get what will be going on in the story, that's for sure. It's just that I actually think they found better VO actors in Russian than in English, and the recording and mixing is just as good!

Now with my luck, US version of the game won't even have that language option.

Alright, a bit late to the party, but just played the demo two times. Woooooo! It was awesome imo, lovely graphics, the sound was amazing, and the AI was cool as well (my two playthroughs, including the deaths in the warehouse section were always different). The controls did take a little while getting used to, but now I'm getting better at it.

Need to do another replay with no HUD, no crosshair and Russian voices. :D What other languages have translated VA? Swedish didn't have it, only the subs were in Swedish.

Ok, call me weird but i've gotten used to ALT 2 + Hold to Zoom.
I'm holding L2 + L1 And shooting with R1.

I can do a lot more pop and shoot that way. I love the warehouse now, it can play out like multiplayer used to, it gives me that same feel. It's great.

I'm in love again

You know, I'll try it again when I get home (I only played the demo twice, and I fucked with the controls on my first playthrough, so I wasn't used to them in the first place).

Hopefully you're right -- when it comes to FPS games, I need the sensativity as high as it comes.

Yeah, toggle crouch was in co-op, but it's not in SP. It would really be nice to not hold down crouch the whole time I'm trying to stay in cover which can be a minute sometimes. Finger cramping will ensue. Maybe it's just me though, as I don't recall any reviews mentioning it.

lol Alright I'm gonna try that.

Is this demo the final build?

Not if you are using the default controls, and really everyone should give them an honest go first.

The typical player has one finger on each shoulder, the default takes that into mind perfectly.

How do I go about changing the language once I've already set it?

I have a bad habit of hitting melee instead of cover when trying to duck into cover, end up hitting the squaddie next/in front of me in the back of the head each time. :lol

Wow. I knew it would look good but I was still blown away and the sound is fantastic. The controls take some getting use too but it's not a major hurdle to overcome.

Really? Why not in SP too? I mean, it's really uncomfortable after a while.

GG felt it was inappropriate for the cover system.

I use Gioteck triggers myself, but played a great deal of the game without and while less comfortable for sure, it's not really as bad as having to use R2 to shoot or accelerate in racing games.

Good to know. This is likely why people have been saying that it's worth sticking to the default controls and adapting to those.

3 Demo plays later, here are some thoughts:

I think the basic shooting controls actually improved since the MP Beta. Either that, or I was a lot better at the controls than I thought.

I was popping headshots like crazy in the first section. Every single guy on a mounted machinegun. Pop. Pop. Pop. Guys runing from cover to cover? Pop. Pop. Pop. I love the comments you get from your team when you score headshots like that. So satisfying.

The warehouse was a lot of fun. I didn't get to play with cooking grenades too much in the MP beta. I LOVE cooking one almost off in my hand at the beginning of that warehouse section in this demo, and then letting it go right in front of those clueless Higgy bastards. So fun.

The game looks and sounds phenomenal, of course. It is the best total AV experience in a game. Period.

The visual improvements between the SP and the MP are subtle, but nice. I was spoiled I suppose, because I got in the MP beta, so I had already a lot of "jaw drop" time with this game before. You guys who haven't played the MP game yet are in for a surprise. You'll be shocked at how many of those kick-ass visual effects stay in the game in the MP.

This makes the next few weeks SOOOOO hard to wait through though.

TTP, are the control options for multiplayer and single player kept separate from each other in the retail game?

No. SP and MP are both "linked" to the same control configuration. It's just that you get the extra "Crouch Toggle" option when accessing the configuration screen from within the MP mode.

I was wondering about this, just how big the visual downgrade is from SP to MP, since from all the vids it never really did seem like all that much of one.

Not sure how those Guerilla wizards managed it.

Any clue why toggle crouch wouldn't be in SP?

On my first play through the controls were kinda meh and I was going at a really slow pace. Then, on my second and third playthroughs I upped the display to 1080p and raised the sensitivity a bit and I was tearing it up. You pretty much just have to get used to the controls, but after you do and when you come to terms with that you probably won't be running and gunning very much, everything just flows alot better.

Ah I see, the statues that used to exist in Afghanistan (before the rednecks of the Islamic world blew them up) were quite a site. Still, I know what it's like to be in a dull lecture even on something interesting.

Well hope you enjoy the demo. On the plus side you didn't give up an absence you can use on release date now. :)

I ended up going default. It works best, I think.

When I first got the MP beta, I tried to go with the one that's the closest to RFOM style, then I tried the one that's closest to COD style. I ended up going with the default, and now that I'm messing with the cover system, I'm glad I did.

They didn't? Man, I'm gonna have to change the controller setup if it's not in there, because if I use the setup I am using now and you still need to hold to cover I'm gonna have aches in my hand after one level.

The MP beta already looked better than any FPS single player mode on the PS3.

Hell yeah! Default FTW! I had to stop playing the demo. Played it like 5 times already and the last one was no hud. Next time I'll play with the Russian language.

I just did that! It makes this game even MORE immersive.

Yes..this is impressive. Found it a lot easier to appreciate everything in view.

Had some more fun moments with the AI in my subsequent playthroughs. They really do come after you if you sit still too long. I like how they seem very aware of their cover too, and seemingly, how visible they are to you..I've had a number of them play tricks with me about where in a piece of cover they'll re-emerge next. They mix it up..if the cover allows it (e.g. if it's wider), they'll pop in and out of sight at various points rather than at just one point.

Strategic gas tank shooting is also kind of fun..shooting them enough to get them to go in a certain direction (e.g. toward enemies under cover), then putting in the final shots to explode them at just the right time. It's a neat consequence of the physics :)

edit - love how the audio samples mix up on replays too. Already heard more exchanges not noted in the thread so far. Surprised they kept them in for the demo too, given DL size etc.
