Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

Game needs to balance the teams better. Started a match with me alone against 3 players. In the game types where is just "kill the other players" it´s possible to keep thinks even but I have no chance on the Hacker and Interrogation sections.
 
I'm kind of bummed there isn't voice chat. Seems like a strange omission.

I bet not having it in game saves on resources. Plus most people dont use open chat in games anymore, they use a party function. You can use the Vitas party chat to talk while playing. Im sure the devs took that into consideration.
 
Having loads of fun with the beta, just having trouble hacking the vanguards.

How do you even do it? I have only tried a couple of times, but not actually sure how to approach it.

The first time I went to one I opened the panel and was instantly rewarded with the missile-drop-from-the-sky thingy (insert actual name here).

So in that case presumably someone hacked it before me, but got shot before getting the reward.
 
The tutorial is in the SP unfortunately.

You have to recognize the two matching keys out of the 6. Tap one of them, then tap the center; then tap the other, then center again.

I didn't stop playing the game till, 1 in the morning. It's that good. Does anyone know if any data is going to carry over to the main game?

Awesome thanks. And so ends aimlessly mashing the screen to try and stumble upon the magic sauce required to crack it!!

The game looks so good and the controls are excellent. Have had a few spawn issues (spawning directly in front of an enemy), but otherwise it's a fantastic game.

Trying to find the primary weapon that I will roll with when the game launches. At least most of the unlocks are reasonably 'priced', so it doesnt take ages to unlock new gear.
 
Is it possible to press triangle to melee? Because tapping the middle of the screen is not ideal at all.

Yup, you can press triangle, but you still need to swipe the screen. I've performed a quick melee a few times (where you don't need to swipe the screen) but I don't know how (was just mashing triangle when close to someone).

Last night I joined a "Mercenary Warfare" match. The free-for-all matches really showed how much I suck at fps. I was often the lowest scoring player (reached 3rd place once).
I still enjoyed it, though I think I prefer working in teams to fulfill objectives to just killing everyone in sight.
 
Last night a hugenormous spider fell on my shoulder and scared the shit out of me so I couldn't sleep anymore (I have a fear of spiders). So I played KZM up to 4AM and had a blast with a sniper rifle. I've always thought that I'm too noob for snipers, but it was pretty fun to camp for the kills. I'd recommend a Ballistic armor and Vulture VAN-Guard along with the sniper.

My balance is now 40k and I'm not sure what to buy next since I kind of have everything I want for my Loadouts.

Each round has four goals in order to obtain points (body count, hack, interrogation, and body count) IIRC. During the body count round, vanguards can be hacked without the mini game and you will obtain the item, however, during hack, vanguards will have a mini game which will reward your team with points. Not sure if you get an item or not, still haven't been successful T_T .

Still amazing how well this games looks and plays.
 
Been having real trouble lately with melee counters and interrogations. I think the swiping controls are fucking with me

Melee counters are strange. When the prompt comes up I feel like I'm quick enough but the counter still doesn't happen. Yet the game DOES register that I successfully did the counter. I know this because once just as I attempted a countera message came up saying I just got a medal for getting x amount of melee counters. The game says I did the counter but obviously I didn't since the other guy did kill me. It's weird. I think I've only actually managed to do a proper counter twice.

The blue "success" indication is just there to show you that the game acknowledged you did the right input, you still need to be quicker than the person melee'ing you.

Basically if you see someone starting the animation, immediately do the motion and don't wait for the on-screen arrow.

In addition there is probably still a bias towards the person initiating it.
 
I downloaded this this morning courtesy of EU PS+. Took a few goes to connect to a match. When I did connect I seemed to be in small cramped cave and whenever I move towards the entrance, I get shot. I probably suck

We know this game runs at native resolution, but is it dynamic?

*trying to find excuses on why this game looks as good as it does.

Apparently, whenever you move camera in combat situations, resolution will drop [hidden by the blur]. Digital Foundry has more info about it.
 
Oh ok. Thanks for that. Sprint using back touchscreen, nice feature that doesn't require you to take your thumb of the left stick (like in COD :Declassified.)

Is the dynamic resolution distracting? I know wipeout vita has it but I honestly couldn't tell when it dropped.

You won't notice the resolution drop.

Also, that porcupine missile launcher thing is legit. I sit in the tower and just spray.

Haven't played beta how many secondary guns does it list?

Ok cool thanks. That makes way more sense.

Successfully hacked some vanguards in the round I just played....way easier once you know how to do it! Just sucks when you hack it then get meelee'd right at the end before you can use the item.
 
Well like all other FPS games, I got motion sickness within about 20 minutes... so probably won't end up getting the real thing.

But the game is beautiful and plays like a PS3 game, controls great, sticks are not terribly hard to use. BUT I can see people probably getting uncomfortable with the system maybe after a couple of hours cause its a bit cramped up trying to access the triggers and sticks.

It's kinda like counterstrike where you can select your loadout when you respawn.

Hope it does well.
 
I downloaded the beta late last night but couldn't get into a match at all. Tried dozens of times, it would just disconnect me with an error saying my connection dropped. Once it had me hosting a game but no one ever joined it so I had to cancel a few minutes later.

I imagine I'll have to forward some ports when I get home, what a nuisance. I already have my PS3 on my DMZ, P2P sucks. :P


EDIT: lol, from the official forums, network tips:
Holy shit, now *that's* a port range!

I can't even open a port range that large on my router!! I can only open a range of, at most, 5000!! This is a nightmare :p

Is there a more specific port range that this uses?
 
Touch based melee and counters need to be placed on a button. Its so stupid to have your hands "full" as in grabbing the vita and fingers placed on the sticks and buttons and suddenly you are forced to let go of the Vita to make a touch gesture. 99% of the time, I cant get it on time to counter a melee attack. Now if they made you press R/L trigger or a face button, that would be better.

Also they should let you swap weapons with Triangle. Again, I'd rather have the action be right on the area of play (face buttons) than having to let go of one side to switch weapons.

So far, controls are off. This stiffness is not KZ2 like and it doesnt translate well to a handheld. 50%+ of the time, Im fighting the controls. No voice chat is also some what weird. Hope its inn the final build though as it would help with team work.
 
I haven't been able to connect to a single game...keep being kicked for losing connectivity. I've tried every port forwarding and router dmz suggestion. Nothing seems to work...anybody else had issues? I don't have problems connecting to any other multiplayer game wirelessly with ps3 and vita.
 
Just downloaded it. Really like the visuals. Spawn points could use some adjustments. How exactly do the vanguards work? I don't think I have enough money to buy any of them yet.
 
Finally got some time to sink into this. Really enjoying it so far and will definitely get the retail release. The gyro aiming instantly elevates it above Resistance, which is the only other Vita shooter I have played.
