Well, I feel like SF is still way more derivative of 3 than 2, but I enjoyed the overall flow, of not just switching classes, but modifying them on the fly as well. I do miss operations, i always liked the narrative tug on mp, Assault from Unreal is still a favorite mode of mine of all time.
In what ways do you find it to be more derivative of 3?
I suppose the changes I really disliked about 3 involved the following aspects:
1) Gunplay seemed dumbed down and didn't require as much skill
2) Mechs / Jetpacks ruined whatever maps they were included in.
3) Lack of deployable spawns took out a huge element of tactical strategy and teamwork.
I think a lot of KZ2 fans would agree, and it appears that KZ:SF has resolved these issues
When you put it that way... it is kinda depressing to think about it.
I mean I kinda liked Bioshock Infinite, it had some really good ideas (skylines, ending etc.), but it wasn't nearly as cohesive as Bioshock 1.
Halo 4 had its moments aside from the absolutely ridiculous villain (Didact) /Comic book story nearly killed the whole thing for me. Level design wasn't nearly as open and polished as Halo 3 either. Let's put it this way - there was nothing equivalent to the double Scarab battle at the end of The Covenant, but I still enjoyed the game for what it was.
So yeah, it's been quite some time since an FPS campaign really blew me away. Here's to Destiny...
Yeah it is pretty depressing. There's a lot of wasted opportunities in the industry right now for an FPS campaign that basically does what a lot of great open world games do.
I thought BioShock Infinite was a large disappointment, but loved the original. It's hard to really call it a shooter though, just because the mechanics aren't quite up to snuff and the game focuses more on other elements. Infinite kind of tried to make these better but in the process somewhere I felt that it lost a lot of its charm.
I've always found the recent Halo campaigns to be disappointing myself, but I'd probably put them on par or just slightly above the Killzone series. Halo 1 was a masterpiece, and they all tend to have rather fun gameplay...but there's also huge wasted potential there when it comes to the story, lore, and universe...and the games generally only last 5-6 hours.
