Killzone Shadowfall Press Preview Thread

Killzone: Shadow Fall OTl Have You seen Shadow Fall?

If only the game was made by/published my Activision, Microsoft or Bungie, then it would get a free pass on any criticisms; instant 9's.

Jeff is just really dismissive of a lot of Sony properties
Hes not a big fan of many of them at all, its understandable to a degree. I hope he remains objective and doesn't adjust the score just because its a franchise he's tired of seeing.

Exactly and this is not just related to Jeff, a lot of the press especially at the beginning of the PS3 were very critical of the games on PS3 for no good reason. Other multi-plat games or games on other platforms would get free pass on the same issues but when it would come to PS3 exclusives they were scrutinized for the smallest stupidest things. Ok so the PS3 was too expensive and a lot of folks in the press didn't like that, but games are games and should be reviewed regardless of the hardware/manufacturer complaints. I am hoping this trend does not happen going into next gen.

I don't think I've ever heard Jeff rave wildly about any game ever. It's part of the reason why I enjoy hearing his opinion. He likes what he likes and dislikes what he dislikes, nothing more.

Jeff is the first i have seen to complain about the frame rate. Unless he was just disappointed that the SP wasn't 60 FPS. Like it could have been smooth but missing the fluidity of 60 FPS. Though that is something that is going to happen a lot for both systems.

I'd expect many people to feel something similar if they jump from the multiplayer into the campaign. Going from 60fps to 30fps is already a jarring experience for me, but I've never done it with the same game. That's just going to be bizarre.

I'll probably wont even touch single player... :) am I crazy?

Thread is about grumpy old jeff now? Haha. Maybe it's just not his cup of tea.
Looks awesome to me. I'm at awe at what they achieved in art-direction, level design, stepping out of their linear box, taking new directions, techical marvel, lichting, making MP 60fps, etc. I'll be having a lot of fun at launch.

I doubt it. The SP is far more slow paced and tactical than the MP.

so all of these previews are from the final build? I'm at work so I'm not able to spend a lot of time doing any reading

Really? Than why did he give KZ2 5/5 and KZ3 4/5 ? I agree that he usually favours Xbox exclusives over Playstation's but he seems to like Killzone.

Lol can't argue against that really

Edit: he doesn't like GOW or Uncharted which is perfectly understandable. It's his opinion

Yeah I plan on completing the single player first before i touch muliplayer

The thing that impressed me the most in this first batch of games from next gen, besides the obvious big graphical upgrade, and here especially with Killzone and Destiny, is the draw distance, it looks so good, and gives off such a huge impression of the world and its size. It really helps the immersion imo.

Edit: this bias talk is annoying.

Wow. This might be the first FPS I play in a very long time.

*Not counting games like Metroid Prime and Mirror's Edges as FPSs obviously*

At the beginning yeah, but from my experience it takes just a couple of minutes to get used to the different framerate.

never seen killzone with so much colours.

curious to see how this looks on the vita oled ~ remote play.

and the framerate difference between single player and multi is def. bs.

i hope this doesn't become a trend.

It looks amazing, but somehow the KZ universe does not appeal to me. Played 2 and 3 on PS3 and Liberation on Vita and kept thinking about it lately, why it could not hold my attention. Maybe it's important for me that I know who I' m playing. When playing HALO, I feel I'm the Chief, when playing in Pikmin I feel I'm Alph, when playing TLOU, I feel I' m Joel...when I play KZ, I don't feel like anyone tbh...does not mean it's a bad game, but I just can't identify with the characters.

Listening to him on Giant bombcast I would never of gotten that impression, I listen every week and he has always came across as indifferent.

My apologies, I don't read or visit GiantBomb for reviews.

According to a few of the previewers (it's been said by a few different previewers in different ways, but boiling down to the same sentiment) it sounds like they've addressed this.

Some previewers have mentioned that while they felt like they were just a generic soldier or a cog in a huge war machine in 2-3, in this game, it felt like you were much more fleshed-out character-wise and your presence and what you were doing out there was special and important. Also, you had choice in how you did things, which made the player feel much more important and autonimous.

If you listen to the Bombcast then I'm surprised you didn't catch his jadedness, he is pretty much indifferent to everything that is what makes him Jeff. You can love it or hate it, but he is usually fair in his reviews as the great KZ2 score shows ;)

We're a little more than two weeks from next-gen and we're still seeing sub 720p KZ GIFs.

That's because they'd be gigantic. For example

That's 13mb+ and only 29 frames with basically nothing happening except a character walking forward. You'd looking at 30-40mb gifs if people start making 720p versions.

It's true. This series could use a solid protagonist.
