Kinect Playable at Microsoft Store

People at E3 also had to play it because that's their fucking job. I think rolling into a store and busting out some of those hot moves might be a bit more embarassing.

:lol

Come on, seriously. DDR, even fucking Karaoke, all of these are hugely popular that people have no problem doing in public. All of them make you look like a total weirdo.

Obviously E3 was all for nothing, because it was the job of journalsits to play the games. They got almost forced to like some games. I even think if someone gives a positive impression of game, he got paid or got a free game.

right?

Also, doesn't this logic (already flawed) imply that every single journo was at the MS keynote? I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case.

People are embarrassed anymore to play a video game?

Make sure to dress as cool as possible to offset the effects of playing it in public. I recommend sunglasses and a jean jacket.

In commemoration of the one year anniversary of MJ's death, I think a red leather jacket would be more appropriate.

I stopped by the Mission Viejo store and Dance Central is playable there.

I would like to hear some more from GAFers that actually have played with Kinect. Its a shame that every Kinect thread gets invaded by the same kind of posts over and over.
Well here is the basic jest of my opinions from what ive played.

Kinect by first party devs=amazing
Kinect games from 3rd parties= shit besides dance central

Move by first party devs= ok
Move by third party devs= utter crap

So its a good device, just avoid 3rd party games for at least a few months.

What about Your Shape? That one looked competent.

I played with it (Dance Central, Joy Ride). It hard to come out of a Kinect session with Microsoft with any kind of concrete impressions.

There are tons of technical concerns right now: two-player only, no sitting down, input lag. At least in the controlled bubble environment Microsoft set up, it was fine. Perhaps a few frames of lag, but nothing that really bothered me.

Still, though the tech worked...it just...I don't know, it just didn't seem to matter. I didn't have any more fun playing those games without a controller than I would have with one. It really *is* like playing the Wii, except now you don't have to hold something in your hand. I really didn't mind holding something in my hand, I was kind of used to it.

I left and someone asked me how it was and I shrugged. It was Kinect.

Whatever.

What songs were available for Dance Central?

How difficult was your "routine"? Are there difficulty levels in the demo? Was anyone really, really good at it?

Did you try it, or see others trying it? Any impressions?

I did get to try it out. It works well and is a lot of fun. I was a little embarrased to really get into it. Watching others play was fun. Poison is hard, I had to switch to Poker Face which they said was the easiest.

The game on the other TV was Kinect Adventures. I was watching mostly but did get asked to jump in on the breakout game. With two people it felt a little crowded. There was lag but I got used to it pretty quickly. I would have rather played some of the other games but didnt have much time to spend there.

I got there early, about 15 minutes after they opened. There was already a few people lined up and a crowd was forming as I left. I might check it out again on my way home from work.

Care to elaborate as to which kinect 1st party games were so amazing? Also which 3rd party move games are, in your words, "utter crap"? I'm honestly curious considering such extremes

Wikipedia tells me the six songs available were Poker Face, Body Movin', Poison, Funky Town, Galang '05, and Hella Good. I, being white, immediately went for Funky Town.

Without sounding like an asshole, I was probably the best one there; I've taken a couple years' worth of dance instruction, albeit in salsa and foxtrot. I wasn't as good as the Asian on the stage, though, I'd imagine.

Edit: There were difficulty levels, but we never changed it.

I dont remember the track list exactly. There was Poker Face, Poison, and Body Moving. You can choose easy, medium, or hard difficulty. Poison on medium, which I thought would be no problem, was hard. I havent been dancing in a while. :) The employee there said Poker Face was the easiest so I went with that on medium which was very easy.

Edit: I dont really think Poison is all that hard. It just requires more physical dance moves that I was not ready to perform at the Mall this morning. :P

Kinect Adventures Adventures and Joy Ride, they didnt require me to stand in a certain area to play them like all the Hudson games required me too do. Sonic Free riders, and Dance Central also did not require this.

Pardon me if i my tone seems cynical but does the lack of a positioning requirement make the games amazing? I'm more interested in the actual interaction of the games. I suppose the gist of what i'm trying to ask is; did you feel like you interacting with the game in a meaningful way or would it have been better with a controller i.e. was the experience enhanced or not?

You also didnt answer the move part of my previous question though but i wont hold that against you

I'd rather see this than the constant " Curly Mustache, Mahvel Baby, Pringles ". I am so sick of seeing this. I don't think this or any other internet jokes ever get old on here.

ok, now this is very important...

which is worse: "shit" or "utter crap"

kidding!

Funny how the people who post the most about it, are the least likely to buy one. Hate is a stronger emotion than love I guess.

And you don't think people have the same opinion as you when you roll into a PS3 thread to talk about how yours broke a week after you bought it? YIKES!

There's a MS store in my local mall (Mission Viejo). I'd like to check Kinect out, but I don't know that I could do so in public.
