Metroid Prime 4 confirmed for "late 2025", playable demo at Fan Expo Canada

Its looking like Prime 4 is going to be their big Holiday title. They'll need more to fill in the rest of the year then, IMO. The Prime 2 and 3 remasters at a minimum. Another Direct talking about 1st party titles coming would be great as well.

Where does it say "late 2025"? If you're talking about the quote about the expo, that's changing the meaning of the quote and misrepresenting. Any day beginning with tomorrow would be 'later'. 'Late' has a specific meaning, as in, like November or December. Since the initial communication late March/ early April with the Direct, Nintendo has made no specific mention of the release timing, and this doesn't contain any new information. A release day could be announced literally any day, and it could realistically be any time between September thru early December.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other?
No, definitely not. 'Later' could mean literally tomorrow. 'Late' would mean it's scheduled for late in the calendar year, which would heavily imply November or December. If you're changing the meaning of a quote you are just making things up at that point.

I'm convinced Metroid Prime 4 is a 2026 game.

If a Game rewards show was honest they would hold one in January 2026 to have the entire selection of all games that were released in 2025 so it's hard to take seriously.
They announced and released Super Mario 3D All-Stars in the span of 2 weeks in September 2020. They shadow-dropped Metroid Prime Remastered (same day as announcing) in February 2023, with a physical version following a few weeks later. The lack of a firm date now is meaningless as a point of worry or concern the game will be delayed, as they have other 2025 games that are also still unscheduled by labeled '2025'. Kirby Air Riders, etc. They are clearly holding off until their big first-party Gamescom/ or September Direct.

You can imagine, if it's taken THIS long for Metroid Prime 4 to release, Metroid Prime 5 will probably be in the 2030s...

Not really, considering it was restarted from scratch years after being announced then. caught up with new platform timing.
Could easily be by 2028,

Id love a novemwbr or December date now as the rest of fall is jam packed for me.

If a title was advertised as "late 2025," it definitely would not be releasing in September and probably not in October. When something is listed as arriving late in a year, that generally means November or December, though I suppose the end of October would still be a possibility.

But, regardless, the press release didn't say "late 2025," it said "later in 2025," which has an entirely different meaning. That was my point.
Yeah I get it, I was just weighing into the conversation that "late in a year" generally means the final quarter, September 30th- December 31st. By September, Early and mid year have come and gone.

There's nothing to say we get a direct before gamescom then they drop it sept, to me Metroid isn't a system seller so isn't gonna be there big Xmas game, plus at heart it's a switch 1 game just like Pokémon both are just switch 1 games with better res or frame rate on switch 2 , I'll put money Nintendo have something in next direct or sept Mario direct coming holidays for switch 2 only

Considering it's been in development since the stone ages, I'd want big sales from Metroid Prime 4, if I were Nintendo.

Probably a pretty important game to do well. I gotta think if it doesn't do that well that this may be the last of the prime series.

It can only do well if they give it the Zelda treatment, and have an epic trailer before release, showcasing something new and exciting that they didn't reveal, abilities and what not. Or story elements.

Otherwise, this is for the fans.

how does geoffs shit show work, if let's say MP4 comes out in december and is a massive success, is december too late to win awards this year?
Yes. This happened to forza horizon 5. But as Metroid is Nintendo, perhaps Doritos pope will make an exception.

Don't think there is anything they could reveal that would make MP4 standout unless they are having a Federation Force mode with small scale missions with objectives on different handcrafted maps and biomes. It would be a waste if they went the extra mile to redesign the Federation Trooper Mech Suits and they are just around for atmospheric or cinematic purposes. Another thing they could do is hide away a separate campaign where you play as Sylux which would be huge for the series introducing another playable character in the franchise.

Thus far it's just going to be an Adventure on Viewros. Which I think it what we will realistically get.

Lots of speculation and not enough information.

well, yeah, all we can do is speculate. I'm going to speculate Samus will be revealed as Trans. She always was, but in Super Metroid she tucked.

Very bold prediction to make with Drag x Drive scheduled for release next Thursday.

Meant the undated ones ofc

Just release this fucking thing already. I feel like any real hype dies down halfway through these epic edge fests anyway. I'm a massive Prime fan and even I feel a lukewarm "yea yea yea" whenever I see anything about Prime 4 at this point.

Who cares. As long as we get to play it! Im preordering that collector's edition the minute it goes online!

This desire to drag fans through a misery mire just to figure out a release date (looking at you Team Cherry) is getting ridiculous.

December 31st, 2025.

My most anticipated game of the year. I hope we get it before like late December. But the longer it goes without a release date, the more skeptical I get it comes out this year.

Imagine taking any show seriously that excludes games that come out late in the year. Fkn lol.
There's a reason for having the show in december which means the cutoff period has to be something earlier like Nov 20 as it is currently.

If the show happened next year in January-Febuary with the cutoff being December 31, most Gotys would already have been given. Since Geoff's show is an amalgamation of industry outlets, that would make the winner obvious aka the game that won most via outlets is the winner.

So the surprise win of 'It takes two' in 2021, or 'Sekiro' in 2019 wouldn't be a thing. Nor the expected winners be a surprise to anyone.

Imagine you're not really interested in this but I hope somebody reads and understands why the show has a cutoff before the end of the year.

It is considered a 'cutoff' because even though games from december of the prior year are eligible for The Game Awards of the next year, so much time passes and so many games come out per year, that it is essentially buried out of a nomination.

So for most games December is not only seen as a sales death sentence, but also a nomination death sentence.

I think only one game could theoretically break that barrier and make it on the list of game awards of the next year if it released in December, and that game would be Grand Theft Auto.

It would actually make the case for gigantic I.P. releasing in what is usually known as a dead month, because they would sell regardless.
Super Smash bros has already done that. Released in december 2018 and gotten a goty nomination next year.

Smash Bros is considered one of the gigantic I.P. I was talking about.

Metroid's name has some merit, but Prime 4 would have to be a revolutionary title for it to release in December and be considered for a nomination 11 months later.

So far what we've seen from it in terms of gameplay has been a very safe step forward. You're still scanning a lot and exploring ruins in typical Prime fashion.

As of now I just don't see it, so I hope it releases beforehand.
You really think it'll get a nomination if it releases beforehand?

It's about probability.

The probability of a nomination is much higher releasing right before, than releasing after and enduring an 11-month wait.
Idk competition's tight. There are six nominees. Ex33, Donkey Kong, Split fiction, death stranding 2 seem locked. There's KCD2, Blue prince. Then there's hades 2, ghost of yotei, possibly silksong, Crimson desert. Maybe even Silent hill f.

So consider that level of competition, then add an 11-month wait on top.

As I pointed out in the previous post you quoted, as of now I don't see Metroid being revolutionary enough to win awards regardless, but the low percentage is slightly less lower if it doesn't have a long wait.

I'm clearly misremembering, i thought this game was already slated for september
It's never had a date beyond originally being just '2025' to recently being 'later in 2025'. Which could be any day between tomorrow and 12/31, technically. Everyone's been assuming September/October. Personally I'm thinking it's November, after Pokemon in October, but before Hyrule Warriors which is 'this winter' (likely December).

Metroid and Kirby are currently just total wild cards. Could be any month between now and December.

I think Nintendo's being coy on purpose, not that they don't actually know. At this point with modern development being as complex as it is, the game is either done and able to ship in the next 60 days, or it's not. They'd know by now. I think they are positioned to do some "surprise! These are waaaay sooner than you guys think"-type announcement timing, specifically in regards to Metroid and Kirby Air. That's my sense. But they also need to hold off til closer to Gamescom or the usual big September Direct.

Sales significantly spike in September following their Directs, as time has gone on. And people expect it. And it's not like we need a lot of notice. You're either going to make time for it and buy it, or you're not.

So I'm 50/50 on Metroid being either October or November at this point. It'll do well in either month. Will certainly be the highest-selling title in the series, building on the success of Dread.

When you say "50/50" does that mean the other 50 is slipping into December? I don't think it could slip to late November given it would hurt holiday sales and this would be a system seller, right?

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere but the game has now been rated by the ESRB.

The game seems to be on track. I assume we should be hearing more about it very soon.

The eating only means its content complete so that could mean another 6 or 7 months for bugfixing and polish. Hopefullly It makes It in time but I'm no sure at all. The fact that this is getting a date after Kirby AR gets one its so concerning.
