Kingdom Hearts: CoM n00b questions: cards and their meaning.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Hi guys. I have gotten kinda far in the game(just beat Hades) but I still do not have a full understanding of what the cards mean.

1)What is the difference between the various numbers on the cards? Is it a quantity number? Or a measure of how powerful the cards are?

2)Is using a higher number card more beneficial than using a lower number card?

3)Should I stack lower or higher number cards in my deck?

4)And why do higher number cards take more CP?

Also the decks......

Aren't you suppsed to be able to switch between decks during a battle by pressing select? Why is it that sometimes when I switch decks I only get like one or two particular cards to rotate through?

Lastly, are there no improved armor or weapons to equip in this game?

It's a measure of their power.

2)Is using a higher number card more beneficial than using a lower number card?

3)Should I stack lower or higher number cards in my deck?
Yes and no. Each card has a numerical value ranging from 0 to 9. If your opponent plays a card higher than yours, the effects of your card are cancelled and vice versa. Zero cards will cancel any attack, but can be easily countered as they have the lowest numerical value. The trick is to build a deck of high-numbering cards, with a few zeros tossed in for good measure.

4)And why do higher number cards take more CP?
Because they're more powerful, ie, harder to counter.

Select switches between the summon and regular decks. So pressing select brings up all the summon cards you have equipped.

Lastly, are there no improved armor or weapons to equip in this game?
There are more powerful cards you find throughout the game, but otherwise, no, not really.

Not true as such - select switches between the regular and enemy decks. Summons like Simba, Cloud et al. are just regular magic cards. Enemy cards are the grey cards that you get occasionally when you beat enemies, and after each boss battle. They tend to have a good effect on you (increased damage, longer reach, regeneration etc.) but a fairly short duration. I never used them when I could avoid it, though I'm sure they have their benefits.

Guys....forgive me for the following rant, but I must get this off my chest....

The Heartless boss, Parasite Cage in Monstro is the hardest, cheesiest fucking boss in the history of videogames!!!!!!

This guy will not let me do hardly ANYTHING! He breaks or guards nearly all my cards! I can't even heal barely once because he always breaks the fucking cards! Not to mention trying to stay on top of those fucking rotating tulips while attacking it is an excercise in pure tedium!

How the fuck do you beat this prick?

BuddyChrist....I'know you've played this game, but I seriously doubt you've managed to kill that boss in Monstro. He's simply cheesy to the point of impossible! What are his weaknesses?

Hades was nowhere...NEAR as hard as this boss!

Actually, I had no problems, at all, with the Parasite Cage. He was one of the easier bosses.

It's been a while, but I remember making a deck of high numbered cards with zeros interspersed between then, so that I could just slam on the attack button mindlessly. If he kept countering, the zero would break his card and let me get a few hits. Then towards the end of the deck I threw in a few of the cards that restore your attack cards without shuffling, and finally some cure.

There's also a enemy card that prevents your opponent from breaking your cards, you may want to check and see if you've got that yet.

He may be weak to fire, but I didn't mess around with magic that much.

Just stick with it, and if worse comes to worse, go back and level up some more. May want to visit a Mog room and see if you can snag a few new cards.

Buddy, I JUST beat it!!! Finally! Thanks for your help man, it's really appreciated.

I'll letcha know if I'm having more troubles ahead :)

Awesome!

The last few bosses can a challenge, just make sure you're using your best cards and know their attack patterns.

O.K.

and not to spoil anything too much, but tell me.....are the rotating towns that you select from(Wonderland, Montro, etc.) the only towns in the game? In other words, are these it? After I beat these towns is that the end of the game? Or do these towns represent just one section of an overrall bigger world I haven't explored yet?

Cool.

Oh yeah I forgot to ask you....is there a way to actually increase the value of your cards? For exmaple can I make an attack card go from a 1 to a 9? If not, how can I get higher number cards? Is there a trick to it?

Another thing....whilst in battle, is there any benefit to shuffling/refilling your cards twice or three times in a row without using any of them?

Just out of curiosity, do you not have a manual?

You can't increase the values on your cards. You can win better cards after battles and of course you can get card packs from Mog shops by using a Mog card to create a room.

Thanks Swordian. I don't have the manual because I bought the game used and barebones for $20 at Gamespot. I'll see if I can find the manual seperately on ebay or something.

Not that I can think of. All shuffling does is restore your deck, minus the cards lost via sleight.

Oh I see.

Is it true that you can bring back hearts you've lost with a sleight attack by using a restore card? If so, would you say that using Sleights in combination with the restore cards is a good strategy?

I can't remember, but I don't think so. The only time I really used Sleights were to break an opponent's powerful attack or when I needed a really powerful healing spell. The nice part is they only take the first card, so you can take a shitty attack card, stack on two instances of Cure, get healed and still have them in your deck.

I think Hi-Potion, Mega-Potion, Elixer, and Megalixer will reload all cards, including those you've lost in sleights.

O.K. I am finally starting to understand the mechanics of this game. It's slowly warming up to me. The most significant and pleasant discovery(and I dunno how I overlooked this in the first place) was the fact that you can take your key blade and hit doors that are already open to use your map cards! This makes a big difference in your progress and success!

Here I was all along wondering how I can level up quicker, since after you kill all the monsters in the room they don't regenerate. Was also getting very frustrated that I had to walk all the way back to the beginning of the town entrance just to save. But now, since I can pretty much turn any room I've already been through into the cards in my posession, I can use all those moment of retrieve cards and heal/save anytime, while using various heartless cards to enter rooms and hack and slash monsters to my heart's content(no pun intended :D ). Makes things much more interesting :)

So here's where I have Sora at currently:

Level: 32

HP: 335

CP: 525

Currently in the middle of the Halloween Town quest. I've already been through the others and this is the last one in this particular selections of towns.

My current enemy summon cards includes:

Shadow
Blue Rhapsody
Search Ghost
Gargoyle
Guard Armor
Parasite Cage
Trickmaster
Hades

Based on the above how would you level up Sora?

1)Should I add more HP or CP at this point?

2)Is my Sora pretty high leveled or low leveled in relation to why I am now?

3)Which among the list of enemy summon cards above should I have in my deck?

Oh and one last question....during a battle, you know how in order to prepare for a combo attack or a sleight you gotta press L+R? Well sometimes I'll make a mistake and choose the wrong card. How do I cancel my selection and bring up the correct card? I can't figure this out for the life of me.

HP/CP is really dependent on how you play. I mostly used Keyblade cards and just watched for patterns and tried not to get hit. So, I kept increasing my CP, but definitely paid more attention to my HP. If you like using magic or summons, you may want to focus more on CP. Based on your current stats, regardless of your play style, I would probably bump up your HP a bit.

Looking at your enemy cards, Shadow and Parasite Cage can be pretty useful.

Here's my noob question:

What are those locked doors with the gold bar type symbol? How does one unlock them?

I had this game in hiatus and just fired it back up. I feel as if my Sora is weak...dunno. Level 24 on 6th floor (Olympia). Didn't have a problem with Cloud at all (duck and weave!), haven't touched Hades yet.

I honestly feel Sleights are useless, I haven't bothered gaining new ones or even using them period!

Keep killing enemies and eventually you'll get the card to unlock then. Not much more than a treasure room, though.

I've had trouble with other bosses, but Parasite Cage I beat the first try.

O.K. a couple questions.....

1)How do I select my different friends? So far I have not been able to figure out how to use Aladdin, Jack, or any of the other friends I've picked up along the way. Is there a button or certain card I need, to be able to select them during a battle?

2)The White room: This is the room with the white mushrooms. But what are they there for? Killing them doesn't do anything, and according to Jiminy's journal, he says "But what happends if you help them?". What does this mean and how do I help them?

During battle, cards that represent your friends will fall and when you pick them up they will be in your deck for the remainder of the battle or until you use them.

Helping the white shrooms means casting the appropriate spells on them. I take it you haven't played KH. Basically, wait for them to do something and hit them with the corresponding spell. For example, if one of them is shivering, cast fire on it. After 3 hits ( I think), they will give you some items.

O.K. I am at Castle Oblivion now and have unlocked quite a few doors except for the one that needs a sum of 99. Damn that's a lot of cards! Buddy....how would you recommend getting the cards I need to unlock this door? I need to use cards to get cards, so what should I do? I also need a couple of "0" cards for green and blue. What's the best way to go about getting these?

I left the stage and went back to the first dungeon. Yea, you'll lost any progress made thus far, but it's worth it. Since the enemies in the first dungeon are weak and you've levelled up lots since then, the battles will be quick. Just build up your cards.
