Kirby: Planet Robobot |OT| A Transformative Mechstravaganza

I tried Archer, Hammer, and ESP and only got to Dedede Clones with ESP. Don't think I'm going to be able to do this! Especially without any amiibo which are able to heal you.

I can consistently make it to Star Dream Soul OS with Archer and Poison, but not being able to practice the exclusive battles usually causes me to lose there.

There was a point where I traded hits with the boss before Sectonia, and he died but my power got knocked out of me, so I lost it during the cutscene. OOH I WAS MAD.
Are they really that bad with Kirby? Thought they were one of the easiest bosses with Meta Knight. I only finished the Arena yesterday. Speaking of, I felt it was a little too easy. Health items are too plentiful and can be stacked.
I'm talking True Arena though. DDD2.0 is fucking ridiculous.

So after hitting the fight with Sally, I was eager to keep playing because I want to see how the... story, um, played out. In a Kirby game. What's wrong with me?

On my third attempt on the true arena during the fight against
dark matter
I was basically on a roll with full health but they managed to knock my hammer ability out and when I tried to suck it back up I accidentally spit it out. :/ Quit right there cause I'm not doing an abilityless run that far in.

I managed to beat Sectonia powerless, but I had to grab a random ability for the fight afterwards and it ended up being Jet. I probably should've quit right there tbh
Yeah, but isn't it the same boss fight as in Meta Knight Returns? Or does Kirby's poor mobility make it more difficult?

The first form is way more brutal. They switch up their attack timings and also attack more often. They also do the jump attack way more, and it homes in on you, which is hell when each DDD is using different attack timings.

Archer camouflage allows you to be patient and learn the boss attack patterns and avoid pretty much every move. If you take your time, you can get a few fully charged hits in every time there's an opening. Dedede clones are the hardest with Archer because they will corner you, so you have to fight them legitimately.

Yeah, I know. That's how I did it in Triple Deluxe, but it takes a lot of patience. Holo Coily Rattler is a nuisance.

Abilityless run actually isn't so hard in the True Arena, I was able to reach
Galacta Knight
on my first attempt before dying. The major walls you have to deal with are the Dedede clones and the battles against the swordsmen bosses.

In any case, I think ESP and Hammer are the two best abilities for True Arena. Has anyone cleared it with Doctor yet?

Well, I made it all the way to
Sectonia Clone
with Archer.
Dedede and Pres. Haltmann
whittled down my health too much. Will try again later.

Managed to beat
Galacta Knight
on my first try of True arena but I had almost no health by the time I won and that cola bottle doesn't help much. Gonna leave the last boss for tomorrow but I doubt I'll win
Haltman and Susie
were my worst enemies.

Which ability were you using?

BTW it almost seems like they expect you to use some amiibo to heal in the True Arena.

PSI. Seems like the best option to quickly go through bosses. You can float and attack from above, use the dash attack for invincibility and going behind bosses (helps a lot against
Mecha Knight and Galacta Knight)
and of course its amazing dodge.

It's powerful. If you could direct the PSI balls a bit faster it would be OP. I'm just not good enough at dodging with it. I think I'll have to stick to Archer, even if it takes longer.

Yeah, that's why those two bosses I mentioned are the most difficult with it. The arena you fight them in and their constant jumping around makes the fight more difficult with PSI than any other boss.

If I beat the True Arena, I doubt I'll come back to it. I want to get 100%, but if I want to mess around with boss fights and abilities, I would play the regular Arena.

I just beat it! Archer did the trick. Time was around 43 minutes and now have 100% completion.

For
Star Dream
I just used the dodge whenever I sensed danger.

Finished up the story tonight. Had a lot of fun. Like Triple Deluxe is does a good job of using the different layers (foreground/background). I loved the mech and being able to copy abilities with it. Just so cool. And the robot theme was really well done, especially some of the old takes on new bosses. Otherwise, typical Kirby. Really dependable fun game. Will dig into the other modes this weekend probably.

I've been playing this a ton lately, still have The True Arena to get through as well as the final boss in the Team Kirby Clash minigame until I reach 100% completion. The True Arena is pretty hard, I got up to the D
ark Matter Clone
/S
ectonia Clone
fight on my second try (I died embarrassingly early on on my first try...). I used the ESP ability, seems like the go-to ability as it offers a few ways to easily dodge otherwise hard-to-avoid projectiles and attacks and it does quite a lot of damage too. I have to say, some of the golden stickers in this game are hidden really well, I had so much trouble with finding the last few that I had to look up a 100% walkthrough to find out where they were. The hidden room in the final extra stage was a really fun surprise. Really loving this game, makes me want to replay all the other Kirby games.

Dark Matter and Sectoria aren't that bad, they just require patience and the dodge move.

Galacta Knight on the otherhand is incredibly hard to do abilityless. (And fun.)

FINALLY beat the True Arena. Used Hammer and DDD2.0 gave me the most trouble. I also took way too much damage from
Galacta
because I kept mistiming my invince side B because I'm a dumb, but that was fun. >>;

Wow, this game is a gem. I impulse bought it at JB today (they had a demo there and I was surprised with how much fun I had playing it, so I ended up getting it). Honestly the most fun I've had with the 2D Platformer genre since Tropical Freeze. It just plays very well.

WHAT THE LIVING FUCK TRUE ARENA

Welcome to the club :D

Just wrapped it up.

Huh. It was pretty good, but the bosses were far too easy compared to Triple Deluxe.

PR in general was far easier than the already quite easy 3D.
I liked 3D more.

I love the 3D Kirby minigame. They absolutely have to make an entire game around this concept.

Man,
Galacta Knight
is so tough to beat as vanilla Kirby. Nothing like when you face him as Meta Knight or Archer Kirby.

Ugh I can get past everything in True arena except the last boss.
Either the first or second phase does me in most of the time. I only got to the third phase once and couldn't beat him in time before he did that unavoidable attack.
So difficult, but I shall keep trying!

Welp, I've done pretty much everything except the True Arena.
Ending it with a 4 phase boss fight that you can't fight elsewhere is really something.
Usually,
Galacta Knight
is my wall, or I'll beat him, losing a fair bit of health in the process.

I also replayed Superstar Ultra and I have to say the two 3DS games are so much better than it, as good as it is. What really escalates these games over that one is the fact that the environments and level set pieces are interesting to look at and figure out, and the bosses have varied attack patterns. Even the minibosses are lively and fun. In SSU, King Dedede just stands there doing nothing, expecting you to be pummelling him with an ability. in this game, the first boss has 3 phases that are all really involving, with projectiles you can deflect and the arena constantly changing shape. Maybe it's because I've played Superstar and Ultra to death, but I did kind of find it hard to go back to after playing Triple Deluxe and Robobot.

Revenge of Meta Knight is still great, though. Despite the writing doing everything in its power to make you feel terrible for Meta Knight's crew. It feels like the Undertale Genocide route when Meta Knight leaves his crew to die at Kirby's hands with a solemn "I'm sorry..." Even worse when you fight Waddle Dee in Revenge of the King.

On this tangent, in old Kirby games, I couldn't tell you what happens in an individual level because they all kind of blend into one. Whereas in this one, I can talk about the one with the cars and traffic lights, the casino with the dice and balls rolling around, or the train levels with the spinning bullet bill things.

TL;DR: Kirby seriously benefitted from the shift to 3D graphics and the environments are far more involving now, making the new ones way more interesting than the old ones

Just started this over the weekend, not sure how far through I am. It's my first uh, traditional(?) Kirby game, but this is really fun. I'm glad I didn't sleep on this, it's one of the better things I've played so far this year.

Do you know what's not okay?
post-defeat instakill attacks at the end of a 5 phase boss fight that you can only fight at the end of a boss rush. Also apparently archer doesn't block it but since I'm not cheap, I wouldn't know

Also, Hal struck gold when they
made the Marx fight. Every Kirby end boss has channeled him ever since.

Oh, one other point for the Deep Lore(tm) aspect.
Does the text on the pause screen change to "all traces of Haltmann have been deleted" after you hear him scream during the fight with the heart?
If so, dark.

I am a victim of
the last boss too, that damn last attack got me, I tired to float but I floated too high and died, the good thing is that there are only 4 sets of waves

Right now i'm at 98%, need to get all the rare keychains, finished all other modes

do you think those mini games will be released in the eshop as the previous ones from triple deluxe?

I've had this game sitting around for a few weeks now and finally decided to start playing it tonight.

It's pretty fun so far. The gameplay is pretty standard Kirby, but I like the new powers (Dr. Kirby!) and the mech is fun.

But why oh why did they map jump and attack to A and B instead of B and Y? How can you make a 2D platformer in 2016 and think that's acceptable? I've only just realized that I haven't really played any of the previous DS/3DS Kirby games, so I don't know if they've been doing it wrong this whole time, but I know for sure that they did it correctly back on the SNES with Superstar and Dream Land 3, and I don't understand what could have possibly made them decide to change it and have no option to change it back to the correct way.

It's still a fun game, but this very basic thing that major game developers shouldn't be getting wrong in 2016 is seriously impeding my enjoyment.

Been playing this during a short vacation, and I just beat the
DDD clone(s)
. I love the way the technology/robot theme gives new life to old Kirby tropes.

After Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe, we're in a golden age for classic Kirby. The games have been fantastic, and they've truly realized how to balance the gameplay with Kirby's near-omnipotence. I've had a soft spot for the series since the original Gameboy entry, and I'm glad it's doing so well now.

@KevinCow: uh? It's the same setup in every Kirby game and fits the gameplay perfectly. This isn't Super Mario Bros.

Finally started the game and it's very charming. 3 levels in. I lucked out and got a dual Kirby Mass Attack sticker and I love it.

While I adapt to it just fine, I can't disagree with him. All the Kirby games on SNES uses the Y/B layout but for some reason the DS games, including the remake of Kirby Super Star, using A/B instead. To my hands it feels more natural as Y/B, though like I said it's never stopped me from playing them.

It's bizarre that it's not an option, when it used to be the standard.

It's been nearly 20 years since Dreamland 3 came out while there have been at least 10 mainline Kirby games across the handhelds and Wii / U with this button set up.

Of the 16 or so main Kirby games that have come out, only three use the "Y / B" or similar positional set ups: Super Star, Dreamland 3, and 64.

I can get being disoriented from being away from the series for so long, but the SNES controls are not the standard for Kirby and they haven't been for nearly two decades. It's silly to try to claim they are.
