What sucks is that African American cops will probably have to work that day and listen to insults by the KKK members, who they are supposed to protect.

Talk about a Catch-22. Being forced to defend the right of racists to spew hateful garbage at yourself.

The Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan say they will continue to prepare for their rally at the South Carolina State House despite the removal of the Confederate flag from the Capitol’s grounds.

Local klan leaders say the rally should be peaceful and is intended to send the message of "white pride," not hate.

"It broke all of our hearts that they made a decision. The government, instead of being for the people and what the people want, they take it upon themselves to make the decision for us," said KKK Imperial Kommander Amanda Lee.

Lee says she could support killing in other instances, but does not support the slaughter of nine African Americans in church by accused shooter Dylann Roof.

"If he was to go to the street corner that was selling people crack and drugs, and if he would have done that, truthfully, I wouldn't have looked at him in shame," said Lee.

A week before the rally is expected to be held, Columbia's City Council placed a temporary weapons ban around the State House to ensure the public's safety.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook says the KKK protest is his "biggest concern" especially since members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a black separatist group will be on the State House grounds at the same time.

"We have to have cooler heads prevail, but also, I think normal citizens who aren't involved in these types of organizations have to take a step back and let law enforcement officials handle the situation," state Rep. Rick Quinn said. "Because I'm sure they're going to be prepared for it."

Lee says klan members will not be wearing robes at the rally and will have their faces out in the open for the world to see.

The rally is expected to be held July 18 at the State House.

This looks to be a very interesting event. Hopefully no violence breaks out, although I doubt it will. The racist-ass KKK tend to be ironically(?) orderly folk, and will probably be surrounded by security.

I kind of hope every KKK member in the entire country shows up at the rally holding that flag. It would be so embarrassing to all the flag defenders. "yeah but uh, we're not like those guys, it's about Southern Pride for us!".

Quite of few of their... "leaders" have been women. Truth be told, original feminist were very racist and KKK were apart of the movement, so I can see the KKK being racist, and at the same time not sexist.

OT: I never really gave a shit about that flag, but if anything will make people see the racism in it, this would do it. Either that or they'll begin to fight the KKK because of this. Either way, I see no problem.

Because i'm mature enough to realize that human beings are multi faceted and can have endearing qualities along with ones I personally consider reprehensible.

As the NAACP rep said, their first amendment rights allow them the right to make their voices heard, even if the message is a poor one.

Make sure to watch it when you get a chance. They wear their hoods and robes through the whole interview. It makes it pretty hilarious.

The interview has been quoted in other articles, so you'll hear some classics. "The KKK isn't about hate, it's about white pride. If I saw a black man broken down on the side of the road, I'd help him. I don't support the church shooting, but it would've been okay if he shot some drug dealers on a street corner."

Fucking idiots.

Honestly, I'd have more "respect" for them if they did wear the robes. That's their organization. That's the history and "Heritage" of their organization. If they're so proud of the KKK, and what it stands for, then hiding their symbols just shows that on some level, they know what a despicable thing their organization stands for.

They won't be hiding their faces behind their cowls because it's illegal to do so in South Carolina. From http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c007.php:

SECTION 16-7-110. Wearing masks and the like.
No person over sixteen years of age shall appear or enter upon any lane, walk, alley, street, road, public way or highway of this State or upon the public property of the State or of any municipality or county in this State while wearing a mask or other device which conceals his identity. Nor shall any such person demand entrance or admission to or enter upon the premises or into the enclosure or house of any other person while wearing a mask or device which conceals his identity. Nor shall any such person, while wearing a mask or device which conceals his identity, participate in any meeting or demonstration upon the private property of another unless he shall have first obtained the written permission of the owner and the occupant of such property.

Yep. Ditching the robes is the smartest, slimiest thing they're doing. A group of rednecks protesting doesn't evoke the same response as a bunch of people in white sheets. Some people might be foolish enough to not immediately dismiss them.

It'll also look better for them when it airs on Fox News.

Even if the law forbids the masks, I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of KKK people in the robes and hood with the masks up so you can see their faces.

I can only hope some mostly ignorant passerby not convinced of the confederate flags toxicity would walk up to them and praise them for what they're doing, find out later that they just supported the KKK and have that, "Ive made a huge mistake" moment.

You do have a point. However as long as they stress that they are from the klan the message is still the same.


I think the most telling part of that whole interview was that there were only two of them. 15 years ago when you saw the klan on TV in any capacity they were more numerous. Though perhaps their numbers here are because they realize that supporting this particular issue is against the Klan's best interests...
