Knack (PS4) Announced

I liked this one. Probably my favourite of the conference, the gameplay looks interesting and the premise as well. It also makes me nostalgic for PS1/2 style gaming, which I miss sorely. I also hope that Insomniac make one final R&C game.

A title to play with my kids. While its not something most of us will get excited about, its nice to see Sony sticking to having a bit of variety in software, as per usual.

Gravity Rush gave me PS2-era feels, Puppeteer and this look like PS1-throwbacks.

I'm okay with this although Knack's art style is off-putting.

Dat art style :-|

Like I said in the steam thread, the side characters look neat but the main character screams "I am a first-year tech demo." They need to change him so that he actually looks like part of the world he's in.

They also need to redo those fucking orcs. If you're going to go full-FF with airship battles and fantastic landscapes, then you can't have villains that look like something from Battle for Terra

I didn't care for the trailer, but I liked the few bits of gameplay shown during the share demos. It was actually the only fun looking game in the entire show. I also agree about the ps1 throwback feel.

It started out really charming...
...and then they revealed the main character, which was eh...
...and then it got all epic for no fucking reason at all and went downhill from there.

Just, what? What on earth is the tone of this game? Seems all over the map. Who's it for? People who wish infamous had more triangles?

I liked the art style. It's like a mix of Dreamworks, The Wonderful 101 and a classic Playstation platformer like Ratchet & Clank.

I think this was probably my favourite game shown overall since the gameplay also seems promising. I can't wait to see what they do with the physics when Knack falls apart/joins together. The effect certainly looks great at least.

Also nice to see Japan Studio making something worth a damn again.

Looked pretty generic. Stiff animation, uninteresting universe. If Pixar released this trailer (with movie graphics), everyone would be calling it the last nail in the coffin of Pixar's creativity.

More importantly, the gameplay looked uninteresting as well, but we only saw a few seconds and it might turn out to be very fun.

It is pretty but look at some of the gameplay and you can tell how linear the levels are. They are not nearly as expansive as they first appear. I also think the character designs are flat out ace up until you get the main character who just looks like the retarded cousin of Vectorman.

Needs brighter colors. Too muted considering it looks like a kids game/pixar movie.

Reminds me of Ratchet & Clank. Which is a good thing.

yes! scej are brilliant <3. i was quite surprised and happy that they revealed a ps4 game given them being busy on pupeteer and rain. hope they still have room to make gravity rush 2 for vita though.

anyway i don't hate the art style - only really the dreamworks faces, small knack striding down the corridor still looks charming - but it certainly doesn't match the rest of their work which is just outstanding stylistically.

No one noticed the clips of actual gameplay while the guy was talking?

It looked nice and crisp, but definitely not as that trailer would have you believe. There was some scenes that reminded me of TW-101, artistically.

Same. I wish it had a walle vib, and it's gameplay looks way too basic. I understand ps1 throwbacks but holy shit

The main character design is nice but the whole world should look like that. And the goblin king looks like the guy who presented the game

I think this looked really bad. Wouldn't be surprised if this one quietly disappears or is really quite different when we see it next.

Really neat looking, funner than the other games they showed for me, but I didn't like the "serious" nature the story scenes seemed to portray...reminded me of cartoon Uncharted.

Main character's big form reminds me of Wind Waker Ganondorf, though. But it's a neat design, seems like someone they'd put in the next PSABR...if they make one, that is.

Honestly this and MediaMolecule's presentations were the most underwhelming for me. This game has a VERY weird tone. It looks like a Dreamworks/Pixar/Disney 3D movie and it starts out with that same innocent charm and then it quickly transcends into this super serious, "bad ass" action epic. I'm not saying you can't do both of those things, just that in this particular case it doesn't really seem to work that well. Plus, the lighting looks really flat and just gives some otherwise great looking graphics a serious last gen look.

I will still follow this game since it's a new IP and we have to treasure those in this day and age, but ehhh. I hope they seriously change some things about this game before it ships, or that the gameplay makes up for the off putting tone and art style.

Less hype. Gameplay looks kinda meh.

Also, there appears to be large graphic quality drop compared to the trailer. Result of streaming/being on the Vita?
Yeah from the video it just looks like a really simple version of Lego Star Wars.

Here are some details from the PS.Blog post:
During the game Knack also discovers that he has a skill (in other words, a knack!) that allows him to incorporate ice, metal and other substances into his body, giving him new abilities from level to level. The result is gameplay which is a little bit like Crash Bandicoot, and a little bit like Katamari Damacy, in that the Knack can get quite large indeed.

I just hope there are more platforming elements and not just a bunch of simple obstacles and fighting like the video. But he is speaking my language with the Katamari reference, if the game provides that same sort of satisfaction from growing your character it'd be cool.

Idk this gives me a charming feeling and reminds a lot of Ape Escape. Plus this is a reminder that games don't have to be super realistic to look good. I'll get the game just to support it and who knows it may actually be good.

Concept seems kinda cool, but I wasn't impressed by what was shown. Don't like the claymation look of the art and the trailer didn't tell me anything about the gameplay which I could consider compelling or interesting or even very much fun.

Thematically, I got sort of an Astro-Boy vibe from this. I was a little put off by the overly geometric design of Knack, but it grew on me by the end and if it plays into an ability to morph him in many ways, could be alright.
