I am getting tired of being computer building illiterate. I mean I can add additional hardware, but I've never went far enough to build my own from ground up.

Right now, I have p4 with gforce4. not much of ram (512), and dual DVD burner - and I am willing to upgrade in near future - a year or so. However, this time I'd like to try to build a kick-ass machine from ground up - so that I can know the in and outs of the actual pc architecture, and more opt to do minor upgrades with new cards and all. I could do that to my computer too, but I am thinking of giving it to my brother. Since custom-built PCs will be cheaper and have more bang for the buck, I am willing to learn how.

so my question is, is there any book (almost like dummies book) for building my own pc? any kind of hints, helpful sites would be greatly appreciated. :)

Best way to learn:

Step 1: Have spare computer (preferably laptop) with Internet connection and homepage set to Google.

Step 2: Buy parts

Step 3: Build computer and refer to spare when necessary.
