Kobe Bryant Scores 60 points in his final game.

One of the greatest endings in sports. 23 pts in the 4th I think on 8-16 shooting and 3-5 3pt a. Dude went insane in the last few min. You could tell Kobe was dead tired on every timeout so it seemed fitting he was drawing energy from the crowd like goku lol

That game was one of the most amazing NBA games I have ever seen. Not only did he get 60, but did it with 44% FG and made the game winner. There could not have been a more perfect Kobe sendoff. Well a championship, but no way this Lakers team was sniffing the playoffs this year.

Kobe was a different type of player. He was never the fastest, strongest, highest jumping, best ball handler, best shooter, tallest player. He dominated through sheer willpower and hard work. He showed everyone that if you are straight up more determined than the rest, you can rise above people with greater natural talent.

What a legend.

Also how I saw him. I watched a lot more basketball during his first years than I do now, but Kobe was the most entertaining player in the NBA for a long time. I still remember his time against Jordan, how young and determined he was, and his willingness to adapt and learn. He mastered the craft, and it was a joy to watch, and I can't believe it's been 20 years. Surreal.

Curry cannot get his shot off whenever he wants. He is not tall or athletic enough.

uhhhhhhhhhh I feel like watching him play this season that might not be totally correct

you know he scored his 400th three of the season last night, right? If Curry can't get his shot off whenever he wants, then what player can?

That said if the Warriors abandoned their offense and made it their goal for Curry to get up 50 shots via endless screens then yes he could get up 50 shots and would have a real shot of equaling or maybe even surpassing Kobe's 81. I won't even talk about 100 though. That probably is never happening again.

hahaha

didn't we all say that about 72-10? never say never :p

nobody 'gave' him that game... his teammates obviously deferred but the Jazz were double teaming him at times... #MambaOut

Not that I don't agree with you on the work ethic, cause the dude was more determined to win than most his peers, but saying that he wasn't one of the more talented players in the league? Child please. Have you seen some of his dunks back in the day?

Are you saying he was more naturally gifted than his peers? More gifted than Vince Carter? Tracy Mcgrady? It would be hard to argue Kobe had more natural talent than those guys, they were freaks of nature in the same era as Kobe, but Kobe had a career lightyears better than those guys.

Of course he was talented, but he rose above his natural talent ability more so than anyone else in the league.

Curry cannot get his shot off whenever he wants. He is not tall or athletic enough.

.

Are we watching the same game? Curry's 3 point accuracy off the dribble is one of his most dangerous attributes. He's too skilled a dribbler with one of the fastest releases I've ever seen.

Kobe was a great competitor who is a bit overrated because of his market and rings. He's not top 10 but there's no denying he is beloved. The hero ball brand of mid-range volume chucking basketball is dying and one of its exemplars is now exiting the stage (we still got Melo tho!) with a perfect final performance.

There were a few games this year where if Curry played the 4th quarter I could have seen him hitting 70 or even 80. That's the thing. They get so hot, run up the score, then sit everyone for a quarter.

If they did and he scored 82+, I would cheer every minute of it because I love basketball. I wouldn't try and belittle it.

I'm not trying to belittle what Kobe did, its just factual. Lots of NBA dudes would score 60 if they had a total green light and could jack up 50 shots.

I still think its super cool, and a dope tribute. No hate for Kobe at all.

Steph, Durant, Westbrook and Lebron aren't lots of dudes.

He makes 3 more of his shots and he's at 50% and some of y'all are acting like he's the devil incarnate.

at least 2 of them were no hope, last-second on the shot-clock situations as well.

smh.

He brought his team back from behind (admittedly he was part of the reason they were behind), but that's Kobe. You live by the Kob' you die by the Kob'

He was instrumental in bringing five more titles to the franchise. He owns nearly every franchise record. He literally gave his body and his heart to the game, and I will always appreciate that about him!

I'm still more impressed that he won and eliminated the Jazz from the playoffs. The Jazz had everything to play for last night and the Lakers won with Kobe chucking like he never chucked before.

There are always gonna be the haters who never liked ISO basketball, still that game was picture perfect. Team was done by 15 sometimes, I thought it was gonna be a blowout with Kobe airballing shots in the 4th per usual but the dude defied that, props to him. Best end game I've seen in years.

Westbrook is someone who can get his shot off whenever he wants. Even if 2 players were in his face and he had no room to operate.

Granted he wouldn't make the shot but he could get it off.

I was responding to someone who was talking about how many shots Curry could get up. For him to get 40 shots he would have to break the Warriors offensive scheme.

He didn't eliminate the Jazz lol. The Rockets won earlier so the Jazz were already eliminated.

So you think the Lakers scheme typically involves Kobe shooting 50 times? If Curry had to shoot the ball 30-40 times, yes that would be breaking the offensive system because no system is designed for one player to shoot that much, but that doesn't mean Steph can't create his own shot. You're talking two different things here.

I think my earlier assessment of his game last night that I posted in another thread was unfair. I brought up the fact that he took 50 shots and played against a team with nothing to gain to downplay his 60. But I didn't mention that it was his last game of his career, on his home court, and pretty damn old to be playing in the NBA.

So props given. Pretty huge event considering all the factors.

Note: I am a Blazers fan so this is hard to do.

With you being a Blazer fan, I commend you for honoring and respecting the total package of what happened last night.

Now if that partypooper from that other thread could do that I might actually want to have a beer with him/her; if I could.

It's hard to commend greatness when that greatness is the cause of your teams lack thereof; in any given playoff or regular season game.

It's like when the Yankess were winning in 96, 98, 99, and 2000 I'd be bitter, but I'd end up giving it to them for doing their job well, watching their ceremony and then the post game locker room interviews ; but boy was 2001 sweet when the Diamondbacks did what they did!

I think over half the NBA could do that, actually. See, e.g., Mo Williams.

The second you get the greenlight to shoot like that the double and triple teams come. Very few people can score 60 in the NBA greenlight or not. There's more than what I posted though. Anthony Davis had an extremely efficient 59 this year I believe.

When you see this man walk off that court, know that there is none other like him, he is the last of his kind.

No one worked harder, came back from more adversity. I have, and will have many memories I will keep for ever. Most importantly, 5 rings. Man so much of my life, I remember 20 years ago. Its crazy.

Thank you for everything.

Im sorry the organization did you so dirty these last 3 years years.

My point was that I think it would be difficult for him to get that many shots off playing outside of their system, unless the team worked to just get him the ball and get it off (as they did last night). I guess they could do it but I think it would require the whole team working together for him to just put up a huge number. It is not his game to just iso and create that many shots by himself. He is a different kind of player.

I do agree that no system accounts for a player shooting 40+ times a game and the Lakers certainly had no system last night.

It was not the organizations fault.

The league fucked over the Lakers by stopping the CP trade. They never recovered from that. Plan B was a fake ass player named Dwight Howard. I don't think they have a plan C other than to hope and pray whoever we draft or get in FA in the next 2 years is our savior.

Lakers had a ton of fucking luck and so did Kobe. You need luck to win 5 titles. This time things just went against them (CP trade, Gasol knowing he was going to be traded, Nash injury, Howard being a bitch, etc.) and they are trying to dig themselves out.

He had an efficien't shooting night by any measure. He had an insanely efficient night handlig the ball.

Nobody gave a shit about 73 wins because of his performance.

Harness the hate better. It's what k e would want lmao
Allow me to burry Kobe and this misconception of great shooting night. When someone is lighting me up for 60 points idk about you but by half time I am double teaming that player. The fact that they didn't do any adjustments just shows how much of a choreographed stunt this was that was set up by the nba.

They were double teaming, even triple teaming in the second half.

Um, he shot 44% from the field so I don't know why people keep bringing up the fact that he shot 50 shots when he made 22 of them. Most of the elite offenses in the league operate at about 45-50% FG so thats actually a pretty good performance.

All of Kobe's 30,000+ points and 5 titles were staged by the NBA.

Everything else is conveniently real though.
Everything kobe ever did was actually a hoax constructed by stanley kubrick and filmed in studio 51. I'm not even sure kobe is a real person, might just be full cg at this point.

You think the Lakers should go after Curry after next season if he doesn't explore his UFA options? I would imagine they would if he's still playing the same way a year from now.

The question is, can they do it at age 37, with a broken-down body, and in their final game ever. Yes, anyone can jack up 50 shots if they have the green light, but you still gotta make them. I think it's silly to downplay what Kobe accomplished last night.

Whose downplaying it? Its impressive that Kobe even played after his injury, its super crazy.

He definitely was the tank commander, but they needed that, word to Jeannie. Its very cool.

But they did double and triple team him in second half and especially thay 4th quarter where he went 8-16 and hit game winner.

I find it funny the man gets all this hate from these children. Everyone's tears probably taste amazing to him now and this game will be replayed and talked about many, many years after he is gone so continue the hate because it doesn't effect anyone but yourselves.

Last night, Curry had 19 FGA's for his 46. Kobe had 45 for his 45.

I wonder if the Warriors would ever say fuck it and feed Curry every play when he's on fire, like the Lakers did with Kobe last night. And when they're blowing out the opposition by 40 in the second quarter, they just leave Curry in there and continue to let him wet threes.

I feel like that's the only way Wilt's record ever goes down. Because every time Curry catches fire he sits because they're blowing out the opponent. He didn't even play last night in the fourth quarter!
So I just checked if Wilt's 100 point game was a close game or a blowout. The score was 169–147 for the Warriors. I would think that in order to beat the record then they would have to feed a person the ball to actually and try beat the record regardless of the score. I'm not trying to say what Wilt did isn't impressive because he would have scored most of his points near the basket. I mention the score because, from what I remember, when Kobe scored 81 points they were losing against the Raptors at half time. They also didn't have a very good team that year. It's kind of similar to the game yesterday.

A lot of people don't mention this because it gets overshadowed by his 81 point game but Kobe scored 62 points in three quarters against the Mavericks. He actually outscored the whole team 62-61 after three quarters and this was about a month before his 81 point game. Phil Jackson sat him the whole fourth quarter. He scored 30 in the third quarter alone. I think Kobe had a good shot at beating Wilt's 100 points but they were blowing out the Mavericks at the end of the third quarter. He also might have been able to outscore the Mavericks by himself at the end of the game.

When Kobe scored 62 against the Mavs and he got hot again against the Raptors they did try and see how much he could get. To me, Curry is probably the only one who could beat the 100 point record right now but they would definitely have to to feed him the ball and just score regardless of the score. I don't see that happening.

But why the hell would he leave Golden State?

Exactly. The Warriors will pay him and the team is perfectly setup for his talents. No way in hell he's leaving GS. Dude is going to make bank from his UA anyways. He could be a billionaire before his career is done.

Totally agreed. That 62 points in three quarters against the Mavs is such a crazy game, and I'm happen the commentary brought it up last night. I think he definitely would have went off for over 81 that night if he stayed in and they kept feeding him the ball.

I'll never understand why people pretend shooting in basketball is a negative. Especially for a scorer. It's a fact you can't score if you don't shoot.

On topic. My favorite player over the last twenty years is gone. Damn.

I hope russel and Randle see what hard work gets you. I hope they want what kobe got this season. Especially Russell. I'm rooting for him and if he puts it together I know he'll be my new favorite player.
