god i hate this man
I was thinking the same thing, working with this man most be a nightmare…Dude is obviously full of himself and probably annoying to work with (which I think was the reason Konami fired his ass) but I am glad he gets to use Sony's money on stuff like Death Stranding. Not my cup of tea personally, but I am glad it exists.
He had a great track record tho, it's not like just idiots bought the games he made for the sake of it, but after he left Konami and the whole controversy behind that, he was championed as the "misunderstood creator that couldn't finish the perfect game because evil Konami didn't let him" and that elevated his ego to the stratosphere with this result, 2 walking sims being sold as "revolutionary", if made by any other studio, would get panned left and rightAnd this is why idiots like Kojima are allowed to keep making games. Reminds me the MCU garbage that the same folk keep seeing all the movies, despite hating them.
You are the fucking problem! The guy has been allowed to make two FedEx simulators!
He catches flak because most people don't play video games for the art. They play video games because they want to relax and have fun. Kojima's "artistry" is often too complex for the medium.I don't understand the hate Kojima gets at all. I'm not a big fan of anything he's done in the past ten years but he's one of the few people who treat games like an artform and sometimes manages to have original ideas instead of just churning out safe designs that are guaranteed to sell. So he talks like an artist, I'm glad we've still got some
I think he's making a GaaS so his success for it is whether it is still around after 10-20 years like GTA and Fortnite. My game is so deep, people will only understand its true worth in 10 or 20 years. As if he's certain it'll even stay relevant that long. C'mon man. I love your games Koji-san but seriously.
It's one of the worst designed games I've ever seen. And I'm a huge fan of the first one. What wrong with DS2?

It's becoming more and more clear why Konami wanted — and had — to get rid of this man. This self-absorbed manner… Genius and madness really do lie close together. I never warmed up to DS1 and I'm skipping DS2. Kojima is a mad dog.

Dont forget The Sorrow who is sad and Fury who is furious! How dare you all question a man who puts -so- much thought into his masterful writing
Deadman replaced his organs from the dead
Fragile is fragile
Heartman has heart problems
Genius!

We are still using his 2001 game as an example of how great he is, instead of more recent examples. This is telling. He's not wrong. Most of his games shine even more 20 years later.
MGS2 is still better than the majority of shit we get today.
Even Sony had to explicitly sign an action-stealth contract with Kojima to ensure he would develop what was expected from the start. He catches flak because most people don't play video games for the art. While I agree with you generally about being pissy why would it take 2 decades for the artistic merit to be claimed/seen? I think he means longevity of popularity, not artistically. What are you clowns frothing about ?
Like, why is him not pretending that he's obliged to make stuff you personally like seen as an affront to you ?
It seems to me that the ones with the ego problems are the losers in this thread acting pissy because a dev (that they apparently don't like already) is basically being up-front about the fact that he expects his next works to be divisive, and that only over time can actual artistic merit be claimed.
I'd be much more concerned if a creator with his stature and influence, especially given he has to be closer to the end of his career than its start just based on his age, was desperately chasing trends.
That'd just be sad, doubly so if he had to kowtow to the bell-ends in the peanut gallery in order to promote it.
