The room erupted with laughter, filled with people whose future depends on AAA next gen console games. I doubt they will all keep laughing.

Oh wait.

Nintendo's future does not lay in the same direction as developers of western AAA games. I thought everybody figured that out 7 years ago. I don't understand why everybody whoops, cheers and acts surprised every time it is brought up.

I don't see how it's a salty post. the cost of development for AAA games are rising, and there is no guarantee that these new systems will sell like hotcakes. Especially from the first year of sales, I can see them relying on the sales of 360/ps3 version to make up for the low sales of the new.

Its obvious that he wants them to loose their jobs as an act of revenge for them laughing at his favourite company.

Look at his post history and you can see why he made that statement.

is killer is dead using ue3?

i'm not even gonna bother looking for more examples, but god damn that ue3! look at those games, they look the same!

I am pretty sure it is. Could be wrong though.

But anyway yeah that's the point, not all UE3 games look the same, that's just silly.

Honestly, I'd be fucking contempt with full-on JP support and said support actually making it over here, you can keep your western games, but JP doesn't seem to be as graphics-focused as western companies, only thing is, WHERE ARE THE GAMES?!

Most would say 3DS, which is fine, but I'm waiting on real JP support, we had 2 JP-localized western games announced in the past day (Rabbids Land and F1 All Stars, da fuck), but the real JP support is non-existent. Even multiplats from PS3 would be fine, Dark Souls 2, Armored Core 5, Lightning Returns, smaller companies like say Atelier games (if allowed, I hear they're using Sony's engine, so that won't happen then), Nippon Ichi games, you name it, Wii U's getting nada!

What is possibly going through Iwata's head right now? I remember how gung-ho they were about the 3DS' 3rd-Party support from the get-go at E3 2010. Namco Bandai, Tecmo Koei, and Capcom are the JP devs shelling out ANYTHING, ALL of which are ports...

Nintendo is in MORE than dire need to come up front and announce JP support, because they need a miracle at this point, I'm a believer in their 1st-party output, who isn't, but even Wii had more support at this point.

You said there's a Wii U 3rd Party Direct coming Iwata, well, WHERE IS IT?!

Actually looking at the Japanese side as far as WiiU third party support is concerned... if you account for Capcom and Platinum being exceptions to the rule, you can probably drop the no "Western" third party support qualifier completely.

And out in the US in 3 years if we're lucky.
THANKS OBAMA

Never buying another games console. Ever.

I bet you've got a Wii U though ... so much salt ...

Sony firing Kutaragi and making Cerny the lead system architect of the PS4 (thus taking control away from the Japanese arm) was the smartest fucking move they could've done.

Nintendo (and quite a few other Japanese developers) on the other hand are reacting to the rise of Western development by retreating back to their own domestic territory, confining themselves to niche status and future irrelevance.

That's not something that will ever be rectified I imagine. Nintendo have no western arm pretty much. NOA and NOE just exist for marketing and localisations and PR stuff pretty much. Nobody there would be able to take on this kinda project I imagine. Nintendo's heart is in Japan.

Its obvious that he wants them to loose their jobs as an act of revenge for them laughing at his favourite company.

Look at his post history and you can see why he made that statement.

post history aside, it's a good point. Hasn't it been said many times before that AAA cost are out of hand. I really hope these new systems sell like they need too, for the sake of everyone.

What someone said earlier is true - if they released two years earlier, in 2010 (assuming they could get HD games out, something proving very problematic for them now), the Wii U is likely a smash success.

Instead, they release bad (relatively speaking to next gen) hardware with no real selling points to the general public, and let the Wii name atrophy to nothing the past couple years.

I honestly think that even if the Wii succesor was released as early as 2010, it will still get the same support as it did today (maybe slightly better but not really). Why? Because the Wii had an almost different crowd than the PS3 and 360 players, and IMO a good number of people don't associate core titles with Nintendo home consoles. Those who own or owned a Wii probably abandoned it after some time and moved on to the iPhone.

Nintendo is able to market the core crowd when it comes to handhelds, the last home console that they were able to entice the core crowd was probably the SNES.

Just my 2 cents though.

Because Vita is a powerful system and Sony are trying to excite devs.

Nintendo seem to think developers have been crying out for a DS in the house. Developers want to make better looking, bigger, more impressive games. Not interface gimmicks. Wii U is a joke to most developers because it gives them absolutely nothing exciting to work with.
Is the reason why so many devs went broke. They care more about wowing people with big games that cost millions of dollars, than making money.

I guess the idea is these games have been exposed to more people now. A lot of people knew about these games in the GameCube days but weren't exposed to the crack like nature of them. Now around 30 million people played it on Wii I'm guessing it's made some new friends.

That's a valid argument. Personally I think anybody who has been newly exposed to those franchises is noto the kind of person who's going to buy a console just to play a new version. Time will tell.

Nintendo can't drop the ball at three E3 conferences in a row

can they

At this point it's seriously going to take them more than just 3D Mario and Mario Kart once E3 happens. I'm going in with the lowest possible expectations.

I can't even fathom how absolutely devastating these last few days have been for the Wii U. How the fuck does this even happen, Nintendo?

I love my Wii U but this is asinine.

Jeez, flat out laughing at them? GDC week has not been kind to Nintendo with the exception of the amazing strides they're taking with indie stuff, but that's been overshadowed by the EA/Epic double whammy of no engine support.

A Nintendo Direct really needs to happen soon.

*Facepalm*

Really?

The Wii U catches up to the PS360 in terms of power and slightly excels past them as well. But we always hear people blaming PS360 hardware for soooo many studio closures (even though hardware played almost a non-existant role in most of them). Now... with a slightly more powerful console... Nintendo is going to rescue the industry??????? REALLY???

Did I say anything of the above? Nope. My 'salty' post was a response to a bunch of cocky manchildren collectively laughing at a piece a hardware.

Can't blame them.

Nintendo could have designed a console for third parties. Nintendo said no.

Now they reap the whirlwind.
Well given UE4 could scale for mobile and toasters, what you say us disingenuous at best, trolling at worst.
