KOTOR 2 -- what's with these frame rate issues?

So I bought this the day it came out but for some reason never had any motivation to play it (the not so positive impressions, etc.) but finally decided to give it a whirl tonight and the frame rate is fucking atrocious in Peragus. Like it's mindblowingly bad. It wasn't great in the first one (which is the second best game this gen in my opinion), but this is very worrisome. Is it like this the whole time?

I loved the first game, but I had to trade this in after a while. The game just wasn't grabbing me and I just don't have the time to play such a long RPG, especially one with such atrocious and game-segmenting load times.

Unfortunately, yes. The framerate starts off bad and never really improves. I think Obsidian tried pushing the engine a little too hard. =/ There's still a good game in there, though, if you can get past the occasional choppiness of the visuals.

The PC version runs like crud as well. I expected it to maintain at least 30fps at 1024 x 768 with my X800XT PE without AA and AF. How wrong i was :lol

Interesting. I loaded it up at the lan center down the street from my apartment and it ran smooth as silk, and their computers aren't too high powered.

I never get into frame rate arguments or sound arguments. People discern things differently thats all.

I notice the slowdown sometimes, but the framerate doesn't bother me in the least. What *did* bother me was that the first 10 hours of the game are like a boring tutorial.

In fact, if I had bought this game I probably never would have continued playing it. However, a couple of my friends who are casual loaned it to me and they loved it, so I kinda felt like I couldn't turn around and just hand it back after 4 hours of play and say "Yeah, this sucks!"****

Once you get about 10-12 hours in it starts to pick up big time. I'm about 27 hours in now and if you could rate "fun" I'd say I'm having about the same amount of fun as I did with KOTOR. The other side is that the game has quite a bit of glitches.. I apparently haven't hit any of the big ones thankfully. Basically they should have just changed the 6 hours I spent on Peragus into a short opening cutscene and had you start on Telos Station.

**** And I loved KOTOR, so I kept thinking boy it has to get better at some point.

KOTOR was fantastic.

KOTOR 2 never got off the ground for me. And I played it for over 12 hours too. Traded it in. What an abomination. Lesson learned. If Bioware doesn't do the sequel - it might suck.

Yeah I rented this game from Blockbuster the other day and returned it the next. I accepted some of the frame rates issues and loading for the first game on Xbox but for the sequel to see the exact some problems pop up is unnacceptable. Maybe I'll take a peek at the PC version.
