Lara Croft to lead team of explorers and to get romantically involved with another female character

Lara with another hot girl ?
Alright CD I'll play your damn game.

As long as they're both hot..
How cute for you to assume they’ll be hot :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

But seriously: if this is fake, it’s pretty telling - on so many levels - that most people are taking it at face value.
If it’s true, it’s also pretty telling that this is the first thing that gets leaked, before any hint of gameplay.

I wasnt a fan of the reboot trilogy tbh, I know a lot of people liked it. Hated the whole "gritty" take especially with the 2013 game, and how somehow even with all the added dialogue etc they somehow made Lara have less personality and charisma than in the PS1 days.

Also for the people looking on the bright side with the whole "wooo Lara lesbian sex scenes" stuff, do keep in mind that we arent in the 90s/00s, this wont be designed to please straight men in any way, shape or form.

Absolutely. I say they shave Laras head and make her morbidly obese and wheelchair bound while they're at it.
Cause that's exactly the same as being an unattractive archaeologist who raids tombs. You guys do come up with weird arguments.

She might not even be unattractive (it just be her romantic partner) as well. The stupidity of this argument is on another level. I assume its the same people complaining about Selene.

Time to bounce out of this stupid culture war thread.

You’re joking but I absolutely think it would be a terrible thing if they toned down Lara to not please straight men (and lesbian women), it’s shallow as a puddle but I 100% think her good looks are essential for the success of this IP. There needs to be eye candy, fan service, and they need to get her back on track being an awesome action hero instead of an emotional trainwreck, or we’ll see Tomb Raider crumble down to nothing.

You're either trying your best to cope with absurdity of the modern world, or are actually a bull dyke.

Video games and movies and other forms of bread and circus are ultimately not really a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, you can always just walk away. But pretty much every established franchise becoming predictably weaponized to push agendas and often times seemingly trying to spite their original audience isnt really "fine" unless you actively support those agendas, its actually pretty shitty i'd say. The medium has been co opted.

PS: lol @ "she might not even be unattractive". The fact that you're even having to say that illustrates the issue and suggest deep down you kind of get yourself where things are going. Imagine having to say that about a TR game back in the 90s/00s.

Apparently its incredibly hard to just make a game about a hot chick that raids tombs. It has to be "gritty" and offer social commentary as well now.

This is such a transparent way of getting people to talk about an upcoming TR title without having to show anything solid from the game itself. Up until a few days ago I'd guess that very few people were even thinking about Tomb Raider.

Marketing these days is a really easy job it seems.

You know what would be a brave bold out-of-left-field move in today's gaming landscape - if they made her a heterosexual in a relationship with a man. Now that would really be unexpected.
Lol you have a point 😂
Do we have any examples of a female main character with a male husband of boyfriend or even fling?
I need to Google this.
Edit: Apparently Beyond Two Souls is such an example, main character was preparering for a date. And Gravity Rush? Haven’t played it.

No because that's OPPRESSIVE and a sign of the PATRIARCHY. Men are EVIL.

It's very rare. They tend to be either asexual or they putt from the rough.

I mean it’s fine I guess.

As long as the lead up to it is meaningful and not just tacked in, it’s good for me.

If it’s just to pander and hope that those who are part of that group buys your game then they need to get their priorities straight.

We are almost at the point that being straight is considered something bad in the media. You either show someone homosexual or dont show anything.

Thats what equality and neo feminism is getting.
That’s because the norm is to be straight so unless you signal it somehow you’re assumed to be straight until you’re announced as something else.

With Lara they haven’t really announced her preferences, in the movies she was straight and in the comics too but within the games I don’t think they’ve gone there.

People here say a lesbian Lara is some kind of dream scenario but I don’t think that at all, I think there will be a clash between fans on this.

Personally I’ve always seen her as straight so for me it feels like a political choice to make her lesbian, I’m thinking it comes from how polarised the US is on LGBT content that people, and devs, feel like they have to choose a side. Could be a clever PR boost or end up hurting the IP and her icon status. We’ll see.

This picture sums up what Embracer and the higher ups at Crystal Dynamics are doing while they burn through OG Tomb Raider fans goodwill, not to mention throwing millions of dollars down the drain. Cheering on the destruction of a once great game series.

They don't respect the original gameplay design that Core Design started. Subverting expectations in a way that alienates the orginal fanbase.

I think we should be glad Lara will just become a lesbian character. In ten years' time a younger generation of developers, artists and writers will be taking up major positions in game companies and they'll be convinced the only way to be show how brave and courageous Lara really is, is to reveal that Lara was queer and transgender the whole time. It's only to be expected from a young woman who disliked girly things, liked a rough and tough life and was always one of the boys. Well, then she should become a real boy in a future game.

But how would you determine whether a game including sexuality is part of an agenda?

Plenty of video games feature a character with sexuality, so does that mean they are all part of an agenda?

Sometimes it can be easy.

Use it as the main marketing point, or make the character be defined only by it, forgetting to add any kind of depth.

Tlou2 first trailer is a great example.

Bingo.

It’s the laziest, most reductive form of marketing there is.

Nope. That shouldn’t happen either.

The whole point of Lara was that she was a love ‘em and leave ‘em swashbuckling tomb raider.

That was part of her appeal.

The problem with this current attitude isn’t who she fucks, it’s trying to make her a relatable, sad sack real human being. Because some game devs these days hate the idea of power fantasies. Largely because they have self esteem issues.

”I’m sad and confused, therefore the characters I create in games must be the same.”

Not interested in romance in a Tomb Raider game full stop (of any persuasion).

At this rate just give the series to Naughty Dog, let them gracefully retire Uncharted (because I'm bored of Drake and not interested in any of the other characters), and then re-re-boot Tomb Raider into what it was (at one point) and should still be: the greatest Indiana Jones-esque adventure game ever created.

You're goddamn right. We actually live in a pathetic society to be honest. Every sad cunt is depressed or has crippling anxiety (inconjuction with a savior complex). Most "mental health" is bullshit.

I'm not missing "his point". His point is the typical BS that any inclusion of or focus on minorities is "Pandering" and if you think that there is any other point he was trying to make then, ironically, you're the one thats missing the actual point he was trying to make.
that's not the point lol. you're flat out wrong.

Now Lara can take on the more difficult, challenging, and ominous puzzle of her career.....

....finding the female orgasm!

It will be unlocked at the very end of a loooooooooong skill tree progression and countless equipment upgrades no doubt :p

Nah.....Neil Wokeman still has to tell the story of how Nathan Drake's daughter is transgender

Close up shop, because this right here is it.

I don't play video games to see sad sacks -- if I wanted that, I would just go out and interact with any number of sad sacks I deal with on a regular basis in the real world 😂

The point of Tomb Raider is that it's a larger than life adventure with a woman who's a total badass, will kick your ass and has a sassy attitude to match. She's got dual pistols and solves puzzles and goes into exotic locations.

Also every race.
Just watch any commercial.....parents are different races and so is the kid. It's just so forced.
Isn’t US that way though? And many other western countries?

As an example, I heard a teacher at my kids school say that there was close to 30 nationalities on the school. I’m not sure I even know that many countries lol
This is Sweden, where lots of people on this board probably think we’re all blonde and blue-eyed.

But I’m not sure how many families that are mixed. Going by anectodal evidence alone it seems more common to hook up with someone with similar origin as yourself, even just hooking up with someone from the opposite side of the country can be a talking point.
No receipts though, just an amateurish analysis of the people with different origins that I know.
