Late to the Party: Silent Hill 3 PC

Shard

XBLAnnoyance
RIght, so in my seemingly never ending quest to get updated on as many games as possible, (Damn you lack of time and money) I headed down to the local EB Games shop and picked up Silent Hill 3 for the PC for a very low price and I am querying as to how good is it, especally in comparison to its PS2 cousin?

Indeed, but it never hurts to get feedback and such. I would be playing it, but right now I am working on watching Disc 3 of Clerks X.

It's a pretty solid port, though I'd reccomend a gamepad, just because It wasn't designed with mouse/keyboard in mind (even if it does work quite well). Graphics are nice, especially if you have a decent computer, and I'm pretty sure it has everything exactly the same as the PS2 version does.

Unlike SH2, this one is a perfect port - everything from PS2 version is there, right down to the menus/interface looking the same.

It looks great in high-res too, if your machine can handle it (it needs NV40/R420 class cards to run well in highest resolutions) - but don't bother with AA settings, the game isn't compatible with those and will simply ignore it.

The game ran fantastic on my machine. Some pics I was able to take thanks to a trainer.

Yes it does. I've found that reading opinions prior to playing game can sway your opinion in a negative direction. It is best to avoid reading opinions on something if possible...

What was wrong with SH2? I've been meaning to get SH2, 3, & 4 on PC, so I'm glad to hear that 3 is a good port, but is there a problem with 2?

It is missing plenty of effects. Reduced fog, hard shadows, poor video quality, and plenty of glitches. Not a good port. The PS2 version remains the best...

I've heard that SH4 is pretty decent on the PC, but not as solid as SH3 was. The SH3 port was great, though. It looks exactly the same as the PS2 version and even offers improved image quality and framerate (not that the PS2 version had any slowdown, it was simply locked at 30 fps).

What Dark said about PC SH2 - it was just not up to par with console versions of the game in many ways.

Sh4 I've only checked out very briefly so I can't really say - but for what's worth I haven't noticed any notable differences to PS2 version thus far.

Funny thing - when I crank up resolution to max - 2048x2048, my GT6800 hoves around 30fps also :P Definately looks pretty in that res though :)
