The hardware of the Switch 2 won’t be interesting. The dock won’t be interesting. The only thing that will make Switch 2 appealing will be amazing Nintendo games like the imminent next 3D Mario, since that studio hasn’t put out a full game since October 2017 (yes, I’m aware of the side game, Bowser’s Fury). And amazing new features, like if they did Game sharing/ drop-in online co-op via streaming, or fixed their netcode and used dedicated servers for all their online products.

Even with tempered expectations, they're going to disappoint.

If NSO launches a GameCube app and Smash Melee is on it with online, that would be really compelling for a few million diehards.

it isn’t just Nintendo games that should make it appealing.
The device should be more powerful than a Steamdeck and thus allow for portable versions of current gen games. That’s where a significant portion of the appeal comes from.

Yeah, my point is that the technical specs of the hardware won’t be interesting and won’t blow anyone’s socks offs. Nintendo’s always been clear since the DS/Wii days that that’s not a high priority for them, and not what they view as a selling point.

Of course they’ll be much better than Switch, because it’ll have been eight years. But beyond that it won’t be very interesting.

Switch 2 will be interesting because of it’s new, unique software and because of any new feature gimmicks they come up with.

TIL Switch has similarly fucktarded paid-online-only quick save copying like PS5. Actually it’s worse because you can’t even do a slow, permanent offline SD card backup of everything, it’s either paid-online or Switch-to-Switch (deleting from original Switch) transfer.

Very few players seem bothered or roused enough to demand these basic features get reinstated from previous generations so online enshitification’s just going to get worse.
