Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

I just started playing this today after finishing Bayonetta 2 and it does feel a bit rough in comparison. I got up to that point where you fight 3 benders at once for the first time. I'm really doing shit-all damage against them whereas they deal a ton on their end. Am I doing something wrong or is this supposed to work this way?

I think parries (remember you can't parry earth) and those little QTE duels are the only way to do serious damage to them. Also try going for stuns, then B/circle to do a finisher which is also quite damaging.
This fight is kind of frustrating when you only have water at your disposal.

I just finished this, and I enjoyed it a lot despite the rough patches (repetitive enemy design, Naga sections, lack of plot). The combat felt awesome once you got all the elements, and that special Platinum feel of feeling like a complete badass once you master the systems is there... it's just slightly obscured by those aforementioned rough patches.

I would really like to see Platinum get a chance at making another Korra game with a bigger budget, because there's a lot of potential and they've got a good foundation to work off of now.

(Also that lass bossfight was appropriately crazytown and I loved it)

Once you get some more abilities, you can wreck them pretty easily.

Similar to fighting the big mecha for the first time.

Ugh i actually went back and redid the Jill of all Trades achievement. Didn´t think i enjoyed the game this much but i did!
Game had way more potential but it shows that they didn´t have too much time/money.

yeah, i had the same problem, getting the worst items and the right one is kinda random.
That's true, although after googling around I found that you get worse rewards on lower difficulties, I wasn't getting barely any C's on Extreme difficulty but on Casual I got quite a few, including the last two that I was missing so now...

I 100%'D IT =D
Exact time is 12.4hrs, super fun game <3

Alright, so the final round of Ace Pro Bending is genuinely impossible. Fuck this game, fuck the Platinum Trophy, fuck Platinum for making this piece of shit minigame, fuck the entire Avatar lineage, especially Wan. I've been at this for over two hours now, and I've never won more than a single round (and even then it's always been a Face Off), and the worst thing is IT MAKES YOU PLAY THE FUCKING THIRD ROUND EVEN IF YOU LOSE THE FIRST TWO. Because, oh, yeah, I could totally get a Knockout on those three invincible fucking Pro Bending robots from the future.

FUCK.

I feel your pain. I decided to take on the Ace Pro-Bending challenge last night and had a relatively easy time until the Rabaroos showed up. What followed was a good two to three hours of despair and shameful beatings.

I did finally manage to take them out. Gave up on being offensive and went defensive instead. Went to the far left/right side of the arena and focused on countering. Rarely attacked, and when I did I only used the strong attack (where Korra jumps and spins in the air). Still took several tries (THANKS FOR NOTHING MAKO/BOLIN) but eventually I managed to get a KO on them.

Never doing that again.

did you notice the hint message that mako and bolin's levels are based on korra's earth and fire bending levels? i tried to ace pro bending before maxing all elements and it was impossible, afterwards it was quite doable.

doing the naga ride versus 3 mecha tanks with only1 hp (extreme difficulty) is a lot harder ^^

5 more achievements and going to start Extreme Mode.

Ace Pro Bending isn't bad until the final match. Then I just can't seem to keep up. Hopefully having maxed my bending will help out.

Ace pro-bending was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be, I actually managed to platinum every match except for the third one. For some reason I had a lot more trouble with the first two tiers.

Yeah, after all the comments on the Probending, I was surprised how much easier it was than I anticipated.

I guess the real test is Extreme Difficulty.

Thanks for that, I'm sitting here on Extreme trying to suck as badly as possible with 1/2 power talismans and I still couldn't get lower than a B. Now I know!

Between this and the tutorial trophy I missed (gdi) and spirit bending shadows (do you have to do the full animation or can you just press O and then move again) I'll be there soon!

I actually found extreme to be a lot easier with all 4 elements unlocked but way more fun at the same time. It's the way the game was meant to be played. Just remember to charge up your chi before getting into a fight and keep it charged while fighting.

Yeah I actually don't like the "keep chi at full" talisman since it feels like it removes a bit of the fun in keeping your chi up yourself.

I actually didn't use that talisman because of my ego. I must suck hard if I can't do something as simple as keeping my chi up during battle.

I regretted it often.

I guess it's probably to do with your bending level, I tried probending after beating the game twice and it was easy, so I supposed people were playing it before they maxed out their levels.

Just beat the game for the first time.

I played on normal, and I tried beating it without ever using a healing item, and then on the second half of the game I got the talisman that halves HP and doubles XP.

I died a lot. Is the game balanced around keeping a few items around or am I just that bad?

Anyway, fun game, I kinda like the Naga sections myself, but the last few chapters are really rough, I think it's the first time where I actually had camera problems in an action game.

Gonna try out Extreme now before going Pro-Bending.

It's easy to die I think mostly because you can take a lot of damage, but it's not really too hard if you can keep your chi up and dodging/countering attacks, my deaths mostly were from getting hit by range attacks and fighting the 3 bunny dudes, I didn't have any of the x2 items on until the last boss but had the hp regen and increase movement speed on the entire game.

Well, I had none of those =P

I thought that was more for people who wanted to make the game easier.

at one point I did try equipping the halfHP/doubleXP along with the doubleHP/halfAttack to see if it would work better.

But at the beginning with barely any bending and no items, I kept dying a lot actually. Maybe I'll do better at Extreme now since I'll start with all my bending.

Yeah the game sure does open up once you get the other Elements. For a budget game i think it did really well, but having to go through the early stages without your bending is the weakest part of the game IMO.

I agree, that and some small stuff that really pissed me off, mostly related to the element wheel at the top.

Worth the 15$ if you're looking for an action game
and don't have a Wii U right now.

What are you guys using as equips for Extreme?

I started using the max Chi thing, but it's way too broken (and makes earth bending too slow for combos), so I'm with Speed Up, fast Chi, "Witch Time" and Auto Regen.

Any tips?

Sure as long as there is no achievement associated with it.

By the way Chapter 7 was perfection.

Chapter 7 would be a fantastic bloody palace substitute if anyone could find a way to skip the in-game cutscenes.

How do you guys beat 3 mechs Naga fight?

This worked for me on extreme:

- Always have the water shield up
- Spam fireballs when the robots are in front of you
- When you're out of fireballs quickly alternate between R1/L1 to swipe at them with Naga's paws
- Remember the two melee attack animations the mechs use and evade/slide when appropriate
- Evade left/right when they start shooting bolas
- When the mechs start building obstacles in front of you, use the airbending dash + earthbending double jump to soar through the air until they stop. You'll still have to land two or three times, but you'll cover large distances that way and be safe most of time, which will make those phases go by quickly

If you do all this it's really not that hard, and that's coming from someone who considers himself an average player.

Extreme mode isnt that bad, apart from some sections when the cames tries to be Ninja Gaiden 2 level of bullshit with the ranged attacks.
Im about to fight the Naga boss though... Im prepared for the rage.

Always have waterbending active so you can take a hit and spam fireballs as much as possible.
Your firebending can destroy the bolas they send flying at you so that helps(also always be moving left and right while they are firing those bolas/electric attacks at ya)

When the mechs back up and start to create obstacles I stop spamming fireballs at them and just try to focus on avoiding the obstacles.

It's easily the most difficult section in the game.

naga fight on extreme is just really methodical, once you learned what to do it's just the matter of doing the same shit over and over and not get hit.

Yeah, I honestly didn't find it all that hard and managed to pass it on my second try (thank the stars for that water shield). If only I could've done that well with the final match in Ace Pro-bending...

I still question the sanity of whoever thought the Naga boss fight on Extreme was a good idea, though.

So, how does the PS3 version stack up? Any tearing?
No problems for me.

Just finished this yesterday, aside from the super repetitive enemies I had a lot of fun with it. Can't wait to run through it again on Extreme.

From what I'm gathering, if you missed the tutorial achievement on your first run you need to completely wipe your save and play through again? You can't get it on Extreme? I'm a little pissed about it because I was careful to do every tutorial, I'm not sure what I missed.

I missed the tutorial the first time through on how to activate the avatar state, but on my second playthrough on extreme difficulty I got it just fine.

What's the music that plays during the first Pro Bending fight at the very beginning of Story Mode?

Is that a track from the show?

Yeah, but if you have PS Plus it's not a big deal. Upload your save to the cloud, start a new game and race through on casual. Then just download your save again for all your stuff. For me I missed the tutorial prompt when Lock-on (L3) and Charge Attack were displayed at the air temple.

It's annoying but all things considered I've spent far far more time on trophies for a Platinum before. Going through on casual without bothering to explore or break any urns and you'll get through it in 2 hours (worst case) or less.

Just have to make SURE there's a red slash behind every tutorial prompt before you continue. It actually took me more than a few tries to get them on the pro bending tutorial even though I nailed the block/counters....game didn't count it. Had to do it a few more times and it randomly popped.
