So, just got off the phone with my third cousin twice removed who empties the trash bins for Nintendo. He said that he saw a document that said that the Wii U Zelda game will be called The Story of Link and it's set in an alternate timeline from all the other zelda games and Link is the prince of hyrule because they wanted this to be a brand new start for the zelda series and they thought too many people thought link's name was zelda due to the old name.

You should've started a thread about this.

NOT

Did he keep the document???

I'm not saying that there's any solid evidence to back any of this up just yet, and I do think that there will be a subtitle of some sort, but they could treat this as a sort of reboot with Skyward acting as the main info dump as it literally explains everything.

I've seen others claim this, their reasoning being that this Link looked like SS's Link and Zelda's child...

Illogical evidence aside I could see it taking place after Skyward Sword, it makes a lot of sense.

Given Nintendo's recent streak of horrible/unimaginative names for their games and consoles, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just called The Legend of Zelda. Or New Legend of Zelda. Or possibly The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword U.

I did not expect that this information is such a "bombshell" for some people.
Because to add a subtitle and to place it somewhere else in the timeline is a matter of days for the Zelda developer's.

But for me this information made sense and i wanted to share it. That is all i wanted to do.

I think this information merits its own thread

I would make one, but i can't.
I registered with my master university student mail address.
Seems like i don't have the rights to make a thread.

Good, because you'd get in trouble anyway. Posting random rumors (esp. making threads) without the ability to back it up isn't a thing the mods like around here.

And you can't make threads because you're still a junior member. You need at least 300 posts and three months of membership here to be able to create threads.

I'm really beginning to dislike Nintendos decision to overexpose their Zelda titles. First Wind Waker HD now this?

I can absolutely understand anyone who thinks so, but I'm really liking it. Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 but also Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive looked great ...haven't played Wind Waker though, migh be too extreme there. OP's footage looked perfect to me.

Iwata Asks - A Link Between Worlds
Shikata There was even talk of calling it The New Legend of Zelda like there's New Super Mario! (laughs)

----

I now hope they don't slap some kind of generic subtitle like "Awakening" or "Origins" =/

Hmmm.

I'd have mixed feelings if true, but I think I'll hold out until the game's full introduction at E3.

also rediscovering majora's mask after over a decade is truly something special

I heard something very interesting from a friend of mine.
My friend's older sister is working with representatives of companies so they can do fluent presentation in English, when English is not their mother tongue.
I know that she did actually worked with Nintendo before, but I'm not 100 percent sure, if my friend is tricking me with the following information, or if it is an actual information he got from his sister.

Of course this is a small information, because my friend's sister is not really allowed to tell anything about her work, but she told him the following:

She is working and had a first meeting with Eiji Aonuma and it seems that the meeting is already about a Zelda-WiiU-presentation at E3.

It seems like Zelda WiiU's title will just be "The Legend Of Zelda".
It replaces the first Zelda-Game on NES in the timeline.
But it is a completely new game.
I'm sorry, but that is all a got. But it is interesting information in my opinion.

Please no. That basically screams: do whatever you like in the world we created for you but don't expect anything like a storyline or any depth. Sounds like a simple sandbox game if true which would be horrible..

I'm not feeling this information. Maybe The Legend of Zelda Wii U, but not just The Legend of Zelda.

Twilight Princess wasn't titled that for quite a long time, correct?

I...I do not want this to just be called "The Legend of Zelda" I HATE it when games do that, it's not original and all it does is cause confusion when people are talking about the game.

Plus, I mean, Sonic The Hedgehog, and all that.

Edit: I do not know how I feel about the idea of it potentially being a reboot. On one hand I don't think the series needs it, and I've explained before why I'm against the idea of certain major aspects changing, but on the other I would not be against them dropping the idea of multiple Links and Zeldas, as I feel that what was created as a cheap workaround has started to confuse people.

Edit2: Don't really see how SS, could be a prequel or anything, and I really do not see the resemblance that people keep talking about in SS Link, SS Zelda, and U Link.

What is this? Without verifiable evidence, the best you can hope for is to get people excited without anything to back it up. Worst case scenario, you piss people off because you have no credibility whatsoever. No good can come from this, but you get the attention you want with your shitty story.

Well, Skyward Sword was basically a prologue of the entire series, so it would make sense to have this be the first game with the Link that follows the Skyward Sword Link, as well as Ganon's first actual appearance.

If SS is proto-Zelda and Zelda U is the chronological first bells 'n' whistles Zelda Zelda, then I will shit.

Sorry, I'd rather you go to a mod with this info instead of possibly posting rumours or more. In any case, I don't believe it due to the source, not the content/thought ptrocess.

So I have a problem - Link and Zelda can NEVER hook up at the end of the story, right, folks? Or at least, no two generations can hook up. It's implied that all Links are descendants of the original Link, ditto for Zelda. Which means, if they ever, at any point in the timeline, hook up, then all future iterations will be related to each other.

However, it also seems implied to me in multiple games that Link and Zelda are at least semi-attracted to each other. Then you throw in the whole Zelda II bit about how the "Original Zelda had a sleeping curse put on her years ago and all princesses since have been named Zelda in honor of her" thing and... it hurts my head.

I liked it better when we didn't care about the timeline.

It's your choice to care about the timeline. I've completely ignored it even when Nintendo released the official timeline. I don't think about how Zelda U is going to be limited by past titles, I think of the things that Nintendo can do to create a great new Hyrule.

So I was at Target today looking at 3DS stuff and realized the WiiiU is still $300.00.

Fucking seriously? The XBO and PS4 are regularly dipping down that low on sale... This thing needs to be 250-200 by now..

I maintain that unless ZeldaU is amazing, or the price hits like 150-175, I won't be buying a WiiU. The hardware is way too outdated for that asking price...

At any rate. Been playing a ton of OoT3D on my 3DS, and have the MMXL ordered. These games simply had a magic that IMO hasn't been recaptured since. (Although WW had its moments).

If ZeldaU can recapture even a fraction of that Magic, it will make the system worth owning IMO.
Well...you can find a Wii U for far lower than that, like the $200 refurbished Nintendo are selling, there was even a sale at SEARS for less than $100.
Its a case if you are willing to look for it.

Yeah... i dont believe this, not one bit :P
your friend is trolling you.

First Zelda was best Zelda. I want this to basically just be a 3D version of the way that Zelda played.
I don't think it'll replace that game in the timeline though, and I don't think it'll just be called The Legend of Zelda. I'm guessing one of the big things will be the return of Ganondorf. Dude's been gone from the main series for just under a decade.

Ehhh...The only ones that are related over the timeline is the line of Zeldas, I mean really as much as I like the lore all it is is just a excuse to keep a brand and put iconic new characters in new situations. Likewise, I really don't see the connection in that picture, all Link looks like is well Link with slightly longer hair, I mean yeah they changed the shape of his eyes but that shape is literally ripped from Studio Ghibli and it's in every movie and on every character.

In my opinion, that does not sound fun.

Lol, coming in here hopeful that there was a new demo from yesterday's direct and I somehow missed the thread...

...it turns out it's the same thread from December bumped by a "my uncle works for Nintendo" schoolyard rumor post. smh.

In my opinion, that does not sound fun.

I really don't think we're going to get a Zelda where you have to burn down every tree, bomb every rock, and push random blocks to find all the secrets.

I think the sentiment of any "make it like Zelda 1 comment" is "more overworld, more enemies, more dungeons where it's tough to get to the end, less one-sided combat, fewer arbitrary hoops, and less peripheral filler" - what exactly doesn't sound fun about that?

Lets wait until close to E3 for these rumors, there were similar ones before Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were revealed. including the "The Legend of Zelda" name.

Not really. Link carries the "spirit" of the hero, that's it. Zelda carries the blood of her family.

They can get together just fine.

Well if you interpret it like that than not much, I wasn't quite sure what the poster meant so yeah, I just don't want to wander around anywhere I want with no direction at the cost of a good story or level design for the sake of exploration.

usually Nintendo's developers have treehouse people translating for them

Usually, but not for their biggest thing this year. For that they get some leaky outside company's help so Aonuma can present in English while they're divulging game details for the presentation during the first meeting with that company in January :)

Totally plausible!

I mostly want:
-less direct story. I know Zelda 1 had like none, but I really want to be able to play the game with very little story. They'll probably want a story, but I'm hoping its mostly just context clues and interpreting things, with very little cutscenes and chatter.
-More importance on combat. Combat should be really simple to control, but still really fun.
-More, harder overworld. It should be hard to safely get from point A to point B. Otherwise it's just a boring thing you have to go through.
-Fewer towns. No where should be all that safe. There's barely anywhere in Zelda 1 that is safe. Most places are fucking lethal.
-No town-like quests. No quests that are go from point A to B with little/no danger in between, especially when the two points are very close together. No "enter my house a slightly different way to get a prize" type shit. No trade quests that can't be done until the end game where you can just warp everywhere anyways.
