I just watched the video a second time and saw the bit with the horses in the end. Somehow I missed that the first time I watched it. I just want to say that for some reason that was wonderful and full of life and gave me the Nintendo magic feeling I was missing. Amazing how Nintendo can erase some of my concern with horses, and I hate horses in real life. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

It was an impressive moment. It showed off...

animation quality
ai and pathing complexity
physics
and the strength of the art in general

I remembered my other question when I was eating Lucky Charms and watching a j-drama a few minutes ago. (Stay tuned for other non-pertinent details about my life!)

So, let's try this again:

B) That metallic clang sound when an arrow connects with an enemy sounded pretty odd to me. It actually sounded like a shield deflecting the metal tip of an arrow rather than connecting with a moblin. So, that was a bit strange for me. Did anyone else feel like this, and do you expect that sound effect to change? Did I misunderstand its purpose?
I also thought it was strange, a metal sound would indicate a blocked/deflected attack usually.

Maybe you have to properly aim your arrows to break pieces of armour off your enemies :O.

I keep looking at the video. It's weird because it really does look downgraded from E3.

In the new video for example there are no flowers among the grass. There are barely any animated atmospheric formations. No piles of stones. Grass doesn't move in waves. That was all content that was successfully created and for some reason was pulled back? It doesn't make sense.

To me It almost looks like an earlier engine prototype. Either that or they switched off a lot of content just for this presentation because the game hasn't been optimized enough to run on Wii U yet. If they decided they were aiming too high with the E3 build and pulled back, then I don't want it.

Im waiting for the three hour video of gamexplain correctly guessing the plot of that game based on the footage/

Rough patches aside, the game looks beautiful. Finally putting that old Zelda artwork to fruition. And if we get (incredibly daunting) views like this:
LinkTowerofHera.png

I'll be ecstatic.

And yeah, this whole thing feels like Nintendo throwing us a bone to shut us up (pfffffft) 'til E3, base on Reggie's comments and the fact that it was an offscreen, compressed video with jump-cuts and not a trailer with dynamic cam and epic music. We'll get all that and the meat of the game come E3 of course.

I think just showing the scale of the world was the focus here of course, and....yeah, it looks massive. I'm sure there will be more in the world than what is shown. Not expecting every morsel of land to have something on it to do, of course. Most likely this is early in the game considering Link isn't wearing his green tunic, and not much is there at that point. Even so there is more to see if you look closely. Seeing the mountains, valleys, waterfalls. volcanos, hills, and towers in the background as you ride just fills me with childlike need to explore it all, and I can't wait.

Hurry up, E3.

I was standing the entire time during the reveal last night and bouncing like a little kid with excitement. I love all the speculation here and I keep refreshing this thread to see all the stuff you guys have to say!

Here are some of my thoughts and I'm sure I'm reiterating stuff but:

I'm getting the feeling there won't be a sidekick and you'll spend a lot of time alone exploring. Just Link and Epona. The way Miyamoto and Aonuma casually mentioned they were passing by a temple at one point suggests to me that they will be discoverable as one journeys, like Zelda 1, instead of knowing beforehand which you will need to go to, where they are, and when. This isn't a surprise but, I feel like the temples and dungeons won't necessarily have a grandiose look on the outside, and one may even pass one by if not examined thoroughly. The interiors I'm sure will be much larger than they appear. Marking these locations, as well as other points of interest, will be done with the game pad as shown and may be the only guide we'll have to mark our progress. Meaning, it won't be done for us, at all.

I love the map analysis one of you did here a few pages back - very cool stuff. The tent icon in particular is interesting and this coupled with the mention of apples suggests to me that there may be a survivalist aspect going on. Sleeping via tent or camp could have a big part in safely exploring Hyrule and getting from point A to point B. Day to night cycles and a clock could have significance on when it is safe to travel and where it is safe to travel to.

I for one was surprised at the creature design we saw and the arrow indicator above its head. It looked very much like Skyward Sword's moblins and the indicator seemed a little in your face. Maybe a simple reticle could suffice?

Much like DA:I where it is your job to scout new territories and set up camps, I get the impression we may be exploring much of a land that in unknown and perhaps it is our job to catalog areas of interest, complete a map, and return any findings? What we've seen of Zelda U looks to be largely uninhabited (aside from towns and villages we see marked on the map or from the footage earlier this year which could be populated) and it makes me wonder if this takes place before its time of glory or after something has taken place to rid the land of many.

Just some thoughts!

I read a few comments about the game looking bad, so I did some color correction to a few scenes. LCD monitors/TVs usually emit a blueish color/light when captured from other devices, so I corrected that and guess what, looks pretty similar to what we saw in E3, maybe even better.

Take a look for yourselves :D

NICE

I love how people say "nobody would care about this if it wasn't Zelda". That's the whole point and Nintendo knows it. They wouldn't reveal a new IP in an off-screen video of Aonuma and Miyamoto talking about Star Fox's release date. They are obviously using the Zelda image and showing a teaser video.

We don´t know how old the build is they played, we don´t know if there are some things swiched off. Like they said, that normaly there would be apples on trees which you can even eat, but not in this session. Same could go for the things you mentioned. As for athmospheric formations etc. it could have something to do with the time of the day, or with this demo not supporting it yet. That said i think it´s stupid to say you don´t want a game, if it changes slightly. I would be more interested in what the game has to offer in the end. Just remind you guys, we didn´t see much of the game yet. I think they wanted to show off the scale in this demonstration, nothing more. For a story trailer and how the game will look when nearly finished we should wait for E3 2015.

Lookin' nice, especially that first pic.

You are searching for a dungeon. Once you've discovered it you'll be able to teleport there. Seriously, I'm so disappointed in the lack of adventuring spirit in some gamers these days.

Did anyone actually have fun searching the ocean of Wind Waker? When there's nothing to do it's not exploring rather just a waste of my time.

Hi. For a moment I thought I wrote your post

Well looking in the Uncharted thread you have the same kinda people complaining about stuff so thats just what happens with in progress games.

One thing I wont to compare about Uncharted demo and Zelda Demo, in the open world whats the difference?

Uncharted was just a 15 min demo which showed off much more combat and more puzzle clues, where as Zelda showed off little combat and no puzzle clue type stuff on walls outside of the tease of being close to a dungeon.

Other then that both were in the wilderness with plant life, both games will have way more then what was shown

Just saw the trailer, and it looks alright. I really don’t get the decision to show all of this off screen though, unless they were trying to hide some of the game’s graphical shortcomings. Lighting and style look terrific obviously, but the zoom feature with the gamepad seems disruptive to the rest of the visual experience since it looked like the textures became seriously sparse. Automatic horse control seems fine, I guess, but again I question why that was highlight of the demo. I also question how this world has that much wild grass with little to no competition, but I guess that’s too much to ask.

You're right, these colors look a lot like the E3 reveal. Love it.

This one is beautiful, you can just glimpse the beauty of the grass, the off-screen footage destroys this because the contrast is too high, but it's ok here:

I love how each individual blade of grass acts independently, reflecting the sun, the movement and all.

yes. You're Crazy. What sane person hates horses?

Gamepad has very little to do with the Wii U's current design. Nintendo wanted a small case size and something that produces little heat. Basically gave us WIi U specs. The Gamepad was added in after and increased the system price.
Congratulations!

You are among the few that understands this and what the prospect of a Wii U Gamepad less would implicate.

It has been literally years trying to explain this to many posters but they refuse to understand.

I wouldn't take to much away from the distant off screen footage with regards to the colour depth/lighting as it's clearly being fucked by the blueish light given of by led/lcd screens. Wait for direct feed for that. This video is about showing the scale of the world. Which is gargantuan by the looks of things.

Edit: This is better...

These details are still there, as someone proved with some screens several pages back. It's just hard to make them out because the quality of the footage is so shitty (hence why the "downgrade" argument is so asinine).

What doesn't make sense is how that stuff is all there in the video, with some of it outright said, yet you're claiming it isn't

Smash 3DS uses system memory to run

Cool, I didn't know that. What are the details? Just it just take a bit longer to get back to the OS? I'd love if they enabled that option for third parties on the Wii U, shove aside the fluff for the game, just take a bit longer to reload the OS when exiting.

I'm gonna go figure out where on the map Link is for every single scene to see how far Aonuma actually traveled while recording this demo

see you on the other side

Gorgeous. I know Nintendo isn't inspiring much confidence with exploration in 3D Zeldas lately, but I still can't wait to jump into this beautiful world.

Amazing of Geoff Keighly, too, to get this on his show.

Could someone make a higher quality GIF of Link standing on the cliff-side while the camera pans around? The other GIF is pretty blurry.

WOW, that was just fantastic!! I have always dreamed a Zelda open world game plus I didn't expect to see some Zelda till E3, can´t believe I'm actually seeing it happening!!!

Now I only need a new Metroid Prime :D
