You can see the stripes in the meter change when it drains.

Yay magic meter's back!

I wonder if they're going ALBW-style with it.

My thoughts:

- Game looks beautiful and magical. They are clearly using the Disney World style of visual navigtion to establish spatial awareness, which makes the world more immersive

- This looks like a future version of the core NES LoZ exploration experience, I am really excited

- This video looked barren, repetitive and distances worryingly long for such an empty world. We do not know, however, whether this is because a) game is early b) showing more was not in the focus of the demo c) it is bound to be barren

- Twilight Princess and Wind Waker demonstrate that a barren overworld is a valid concern

- Nintendo has not released a bad Zelda, so they certainly deserve all benefit of doubt

- Wii U in 2015 is going to be amazing. Big respect to Nintendo for sticking with their loyals, in a situation where most would get their coat

- That said, I struggle to believe we can get this in 2015

The animation of the horses is wonderful. I wonder if its keyed animation or motion capture? Would be crazy if it's done by hand, but I have my doubts.

After open world demos of games like Just Cause 2, Dragon's Dogma, and MGSV which radiate fun activities at every turn, I'm not sure Nintendo is up to date enough to compete. I'm sure the dungeons will be great as always, but every other element in Zelda has been lacking for a long while, and they seem too far behind the curve to wow people that have played other contemporary adventure series. Their open world is open and seemingly little else.

Come on, you act as if Nintendo is some backwards company that has no idea what they are doing, while in truth, they constantly show they are more than capable of delivering in the gamesdepartment. Plus, they have been making open world Zelda-games since OoT (actually since the first Zelda-game if you think about it). Some open world-games, like the often mentioned Twilight Princess, didn't fare that well, but making games like these is far from new to Nintendo.

Agreed, really hope they're just optional. Looked really finicky in the footage.

I'm sure that's just Aonuma being bad. It's not like this game is going to have a different gyro setup then every other game on Wii U that's used it for aiming. It was perfect in WWHD so I'm sure it will be no different in Zelda WiiU.

You guys are definitely getting me excited to try WWHD out. I really liked the gyro controls in Ocarina 3D so I do have some confidence that they'll be able to pull them off.

In 11 months the best game ever made will come out and one of the best hated games ever made will be seen as the masterpiece that it is. It's a win win situation all around.

Haha. I presume you mean as per the Zelda Cycle, fans will start to appreciate Skyward Sword more. If so, I couldn't agree more. I'm all for that.

This is the image I thought of when Epona was running through those trees. I remember poring over the Zelda 64 development screens for HOURS on the internet. Oh, the days of Windows 95.

Nintendo has a habit of removing explorable forests

I hope they kept the dash from Skyward Sword, and we can do some neat moves by sprinting and jumping in slow-motion.

You also have that forrest in the TP reveal in 2004. In the final version it seems to have been scaled down quite alot.

edit: Beaten while looking for footage and pics :P

Camoxide also remembered :)

Very nice surprise that they're showing this already, I would have never expected that at this point. Aonuma being confident about a 2015 release is great news. And the artstyle looked very nice. Other good news is the return of the Deku leaf/sailcloth, that's my favourite item. Gliding just felt so good in Wind Waker.

Regarding the "empty" world, filling it to the brim with stuff as fantasized by some people wouldn't even work. It'd take a decade to complete and would feel unrealistic on the top of it. What's much more effective and to my liking is when you get rewarded with goodies while exploring. Hidden secrets, vistas, caves, paths. Pretty excited for E3 now.

Looking amazing so far. And Star Fox being released before Zelda..? Talk about a Megaton!!!!

2015 is going to be insane - Yoshi, Kirby, Splatoon, Toad Treasure Tracker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Star Fox and Zelda.

And that's before you add any Megatons revealed at E3 next year.

I kind of hope that Link doesn't end up donning the Green Tunic, as sacrilegous as that may be.

I like his new outfit.

But what if Link can wear a bunch of outfits? Maybe a more armored version of the green tunic is something you can find or craft late game.

My body is ready!

I'm way past hyped, but i'm a little concerned that my hyped dog compainion may just be a glorified treasure-finder, and that this game won't be as elaborate or as deep and fun as I'm being promised. Do we really need guns?

I still wonder what kind of instrument they are going for this time, hopefully its a violin :D
I would love a piano, but its not really practical haha

Never been one to mind a "barren" overworld, especially when a game is open world and the map is as large as it seem here.

Just give me some nice scenery and I'll enjoy the journey. Don't bombard me with monsters and collectibles. A few small encounters and details is a nicer balance. Something I disliked about Assassins Creed 4 is I felt compelled to stop every minute on my ocean voyage to swim out to a meaningless island and kick open a treasure chest. Wasn't fun to do.

Anyway, seeing that map fully zoomed out, and then seeing how long it took them to get to that tower makes me so excited.

Hey that video showed nothing of interest about the gameplay. It's barely a game at this point.

What the hell...

It looks good, though. I like the 'jumping off the horse' mechanic, but damn was that long and boring.

Man I have to say it feels good to hear the crowds reactions to the Zelda gameplay then the discussion about Starfox U then about Majoras Mask all one after another. Just brings me back to Nintendo when they were kicking ass at their e3 conferences with game after game that gamers wanted, before all the Wii party, Nintendo land, Wii U Music fluff started showing up at every conference. You could also see how damn proud Reggie was to announce the showing of Zelda U.

I really do hope Miyamoto was serious when he said Nintendo was done trying to persuade casuals and were focusing on gamers. Wanna see what that next system is going to be like, and I wanna see Nintendo just blowing the gaming industry away again with games for game fans.

Link between Worlds was already such a great Zelda game and it took the series where I wanted it to go. Interesting overworld with lots of secrets and exploration. Super hyped for this game! Hopefully they won't rush this but also release it next year :p

I think the important takeaway from both the initial teaser and then this video is that archery will be a very, very important mechanic in the game.

  • It's his primary means of attack in both the teaser and the trailer.
  • We even see link's quiver in this game, and it's hanging prominently below his shield.
  • He uses very special arrows that seem to have some kind of magic or technology applied to them.
  • They added a whole new technique where link can jump off the horse to shoot the bow while time slows down.
  • Most Zelda games highlight the unique features of a system, and this one will most likely feature gamepad-aiming as its primary gimmick for arrows. We already see Aonuma using this in the trailer, and I think that's going to be one of the larger mechanics in the game.

I was really disappointed with Skyward Sword and I thought ALBW was so mind numbingly easy that it bored me to tears, but this small snippet got me really excited. Please, pleeeease don't let this happen again. D:

Yup you can kinda see it drain down when he does the slow motion jump of the horse

Would be the best case scenario. Truthfully, I just want to wear that nice outfit throughout the game.

context is green arrow is where Link is and the red X is the tower where the beacon was put

Well, they never reached the tower during the demo and if we lowball the estimate and assume that the footage that was cut out was about four minutes of traversal, then it takes around seven-nine minutes to travel between the two points when on the horse (since Aonuma said there would be around 3-4 more minutes more to reach the tower). But that's just crystal balling. What's clear is that traversing the map will take a long time.

They could still change it to a different meter like in twilight princess for what the meter is used for i.e. the lantern 2006 vs. late 2006 release. But what I really hope for is for more abstract magic spells to be back, rather than using the meter just for the slow motion mechanics or Link's other acrobatic mechanics.

i agree, entirely. most open world games i've played pepper their beautiful landscapes with constant, tedious distractions... give me a zelda 1 style game, where survival is hard and discoveries significant.

this game will probably be too easy, like all recent zeldas, but if it could recapture the fun combat / survival mechanics of the first game, it could be the best zelda yet

What I've seen looks good. Colours are a bit washed out though. Also would prefer to get a story trailer instead of more landscape.
