Been having a few thoughts about the Zelda timeline recently. The first few games in the timeline had larger, advanced-tech worlds and societies, whereas the later games had really crapsack, low tech worlds (particularly the first game, which is a chaotic wasteland, and Ganon is a senseless maniac by this point). Majora's Mask is an exception, but it's also in a parallel world--one devoid of war, it would seem. Based on this game's high tech stuff and really huge world (as well as right handed Link), it's plausible that it takes place early in the timeline, possibly right after Skyward Sword.
What I'm starting to think is that the whole Zelda timeline's theme about how war, power, and greed will impede progress and destroy everything society has accomplished. Termina is relatively free of any of the flaws that late Hyrule seems to have, yet it also seems to be devoid of a Ganondorf, Royal Family, or a Triforce. Does this really mean anything significant? I'm not sure; I'm just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.
