LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

All versions has been reported to lock up here and there, sadly.

In this thread PS4 users has reported, Xbox One and Wii U users too.

Now, personally...
I've been playing the Wii U version since release, and no locks, crashes or anything.

But a friend playing it since Christmas, had crashes nearly every day until actually updating the game (wasn't able to at first), and since then still a few crashes here and there, but less than before.

So, don't know what might trigger them.

My current LEGO Dimensions basket I'm looking at is:
-Starter Pack (PS4)
-BTTF Level Pack
-Doc Brown Fun Pack
-Doctor Who Level Pack
-Ghostbusters Level Pack
-Cyberman Fun Pack
-Portal 2 Level Pack (when back in stock)

Only thing I need advice on is The Simpsons stuff, all of it. I'm a huge fan of the other Simpsons lego (I have both sets and every minifigure) but I've heard the LEGO Dimensions stuff isn't great. How are the characters especially?

While the level from the level pack is shorter than some of the others (Portal, Doctor Who) it's open world gives you access to a ton of side quests and activities. If you like the Simpsons at all, you owe it to yourself to get at least 1 of the characters. Bart doesn't talk so I'd probably avoid him.

I think my biggest criticism of the game so far is controlling the batmobile. It's an absolute nightmare in some intense situations.

YES! Finally someone who acknowledges this lol.... My wife insists that it controls great but i am used to the regular style of vehicle controls like in this other Lego games!! I mean this is fine when going straight in one direction and maybe left and right, but ONCE you gotta turn around it's all inversed (to me at least)

I know it's been talked about earlier in this thread, but does the Wii U version lock up a lot for anyone else? I had it lock up twice on me in one sitting. I just want to make sure it's the game and not my Wii U.

Do the other versions lock up this much? Maybe I'll see if I can grab the PS4 version. I'd rather play on Wii U though...
Had a couple of annoying bugs on WiiU. With one, an event didn't happen during the Simpsons level that should, so we got stuck and had to quit. (The bridge bit in the level pack).

Then whenever the second player's controller disconnects (mainly during a long building sequence), reconnecting it is a bitch. I turn the controller on and it decides that you're constantly holding down forward so you have to turn the console off and on again.

Managed to get Emmet and Jay today, both are awesome characters. I love that Chris Pratt reprised his role as Emmet, and his dialogue is as funny as you would expect.

Also, I really hope that
the rumour of Star Wars coming to the game is real. That and Harry Potter (though I think that's rumoured as well?) are the only things that are missing for me.

Not sure what the spoiler part here is but with SW i thought there was no way it was gonna happen since Disney Infinity pretty much has that on permalockdown?

They're still releasing Lego star wars kits such as the millennium Falcon etc, so maybe they can release some Dimensions stuff?

I'd LOVE to see Lego Game of Thrones, but I know it will never happen.

Bought the starter pack today. Got a question regarding the level packs. Pricing is kinda steep at 30 Euros so i thought about maybe buying them used. How do the levels unlock? Through the figures or through a code?

I don't see the problem with them releasing actual Disney lego, or even games (Like Lego Avengers coming out soon) since they are their own thing but Dimensions is pretty much a direct competitor of Disney Infinity. I'd be REALLY genuinely shocked if we saw any disney owned properties in Dimensions as long as Infinity is still a thing.

I got this game for my girlfriend for Christmas and we've been playing and overall enjoying it. I definitely have some issues with it, in terms of simplicity and the way I feel like it's constantly advertising at us, but it's pretty fun overall.

I have to say though, the frame rate and freezes on Wii U are ridiculous considering the price of even just this game's starter pack. That's really unacceptable. I like split screen on Wii U a lot, but is the performance on the other consoles really this bad? It's frozen multiple times each day we've played, not to mention glitching once or twice and forcing us to restart the console because an event didn't trigger.

I've been playing it with my girlfriend all week on ps4. Whilst she was cooking, I tried a few of the worlds to collect the red bricks. And it crashed (must have crashed 5 or so times before). What made this crash more fun was that it corrupted the saved game.

Thank god for psn+ backup and the extra space they added recently.(i was always over the 1gb limit)

We finished it today and she's itching to play it more which is awesome as its the first video game I've got her to play

Why is it when I hold down Y, the option to build/upgrade my Batmobile is sometimes there, and then sometimes not? I want to upgrade it right now, but the option to isn't appearing.

Edit: it's because I have to be Batman to do it. I'm so silly.

So i got to play some more and...i am wondering where the actual place to buy stuff (like red bricks) is located?

Also, i haven't done so yet but don't wanna screw myself over... once you upgrade to a different build of a vehicle, can you switch back to the old one later or are you stuck with the new one?

At the portal in Vortron when you are in the main menu there are options including red brick upgrades. The vehicle upgrades are dependant upon which character you entered the portal menu with.

Yes you can switch back to previous versions of the builds. When you are in the vehicle in the game hold down the menu button and you will see a picture of the previous build you can switch to. I haven't found an easier way to switch back except going back to the portal upgrades screen and resaving the toy tag.

Tx Ponn..

Yeah i saw the red bricks in the menu in Votron i think BUT it said "available to buy" so i assumed you then have to go elsewhere to actually BUY them you know?

Also: Just how common really is that problem with a Dimensions save getting corrupted on PS4? I don't have PS+ so no access to the cloud saving right? I can't even imagine being really far into the game and then have this happen to me!

bestbuy has a great deal on select fun packs right now. 7.50 each or 6.00 each if you have GCU.

Sweet, thanks. Got most everything I'm missing. May have to stop by GameStop to finish off the collection before the sale expires.

E: For my own record keeping when I'm out shopping today...Stuff left to buy:

Level Packs - Dr. Who
Team Packs - Scooby-Doo
Fun Packs - Bart, Benny, Cyborg, Emmet, Jay & Storm, Zane

At that point, I can just buy stuff as it comes out. Noice. Although Jay is nowhere to be found for me.

Haven't even bought the game yet but noticed the Portal/Chell pack had disappeared from almost every single store around me
So I went ahead and picked the one pack I could find up.

Amazon Prime has many of the Fun Packs for $7.50 as well (not $6 like with BestBuy's GCU, though). Also includes some upcoming ones like Doctor Who Cyberman and BttF Doc Brown.

Got to admit I'm not enjoying Dimensions as much as other Lego games. The portals are a bit much sometimes and I've never been a fan of boss fights.

Still a good game but other Lego games are better.

Oops sorry then misunderstood. Yea that's where you buy the red brick upgrades but unfortunately you have to unlock them first and thats through the game worlds. Most of them are world specific because some of them had locks on them that disappeared once I got certain packs. A couple still have locks that i'm assuming are Ghostbusters and Midway Arcade specific.

I'm playing the PS4 version and I haven't had a save corruption problem. I had one game lock up like two patches ago but that was the only problem I had with the game. I feel its important to remember that your vehicle upgrades, which is probably where the majority of your studs go to, are saved to the NFC tags so you really have two different saves going on with the game. Alot of my vehicle upgrades were a waste though. I would suggest picking one car type and one flying type to upgrade and spending the rest on red brick upgrades.

Right?

But who are we to complain? I mean hey, Amazon.fr has got Emmet Fun pak for 14,43 euro instead of 14,99 Eur currently. That's gotta count for something right?

:(

I don't know how well Dimensions has sold in the UK (and Europe) but having had this for a few weeks and Infinity for a few months I feel the price of stuff has really got to be hurting it over here.

The Disney infinity stuff is so much cheaper and contains so much more in terms of the game you get with their playsets. Lego either needs to start making much bigger hubs or meatier level packs in future if they're going to keep charging the price they are. .

Just decided to do the free shipping from Best Buy on the rest of the stuff I need.

Question - why can't I find Jay & Storm Fun Pack anywhere?

I disagree. I think that each level pack has about the same amount of content - it's just explicitly broken up into "story" and "overworld" areas, instead of mixing the two like Disney Infinity does. And the LEGO ones are both $5 cheaper, and more fun!

I'm off the Disney Infinity train after this year. It was only "okay" to begin with, but LEGO has outclassed them as far as I'm concerned.

GAF got me hooked on this. Just picked up the starter plus BTTF,Simpsons and Jurassic World..Playing it tonight on Xbox one. What have I started?

And that's the campaign done :) the final boss was dragged out a bit, and I got a big tired of doing the same puzzle types over and over towards the end, but I still had a great time.

And it's not over! I haven't even ventured into a hub world yet or started one of my level packs.

Edit LOL @ the song over the final credits.

From what I can see, it looks like getting a plat for this might not be too difficult. I reckon trying to save up a million studs to get the chrome paint job might be a bit of a bitch though.

I don't plan to touch the hub world stuff until I finish the main game. I am looking forward to Scooby-Doo and Simpsons. I hope they bring more colorful humor stuff and not a bunch more serious-ish. Flintstones and Jetsons being actual worlds would be siiiick.

So it's ok to just finish the main campaign first with the core team and then go back and do it once more after you opened most of your fun packs to unlock abilites or is it generally recommended to go through the levels of the campaign WHILE having the all or most abilities so you can unlock specific areas immediately? (talking about the main campaign's level's ONLY here)

It's entirely up to you. Opening a fun pack and assembling those characters with their respective vehicle only takes about ten minutes, so at least you can use their abilities whilst you play the game. Saves you doing it later.

When I played the campaign, I kept the main three from the starter pack on the portal 90% of the time, but before starting the game I'd already assembled Shell, Wicked Witch and Homer so I used their abilities when the opportunity came up in the campaign, then just switched them back.

One thing I do recommend, and I say this to newcomers as well, is going to the Lord of the Rings hub world and getting the red brick from within there. It gives you a permanent x2 multiplier for studs which is very handy for everything in the game.

Yeah, but after you were done the first time with the campaign, did you go back later and redo all the levels with different/additonal fun packs/abilities yet? I am just wondering whether i should do most or even all of it in ONE run rather than go back later.

Ugh, this is so much more complicated than other Lego games where i would always just play through the main story first then replay them exactly ONCE since i then had access to all the necessary characters for 100%. Here you need to worry about which packs to buy etc. hmmm

Gonna give it another go tonight, still excited to play though :)

I haven't had a chance to replay any of the campaign levels yet since completing it so I can't tell you! I will be soon though cos I need to collect more minikits to get the trophy.

Woah - need to do this. Thanks!

Yes excellent tip for sure

So I bought the Wii U version to play with my wife, but I also saw that GameStop is now selling the Lego Dimensions disc individually, so I picked up a copy for the PS4 (sans portal). I'm aware the Wii U portal works on PS4, but would using characters I've already written a toy tag for mess up anything in the Wii U game?

I don't want to mess up my Wii U save because of toy tag nonsense on PS4.

Character toy tags are read-only, so no concerns there.

Vehicle toy tags: you can place your Wii U-written toy tag on PS4 and it should just read the version of the vehicle that you saved.

Still on the fence about that Chima Hubworld. As i haven't seen the show and am generally not too much of a fan of the theme, is the hubworld itself still worth visiting (buying a fun pak for?)
