LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

I just filled in some holes in the collection.

Door bell going to ring a few times, and the kids are going to fetch a package from the porch. They'll shake it and roll their eyes when they realize it's more Legos for dad.

They're 11, so way too old for Legos... for now.

Anyone play the new batman story pack? I received it today from Amazon, but kids only wanna play after we the the movie tomorrow.

Wondering how you guys like it.

I played a little bit of it. Would have played more but updates and patches take too long to download (they really should fix this problem so that you aren't waiting around for an update the second you put a new figure on the base, but I have no good suggestions).

First segment is over the top, as you might expect. I was a little disappointed in the piece count for the new base. The design is fine but it's pretty small. We assembled everything before realizing what Batgirl's belt was for. I'd never seen a mini figure with a belt.

Have played the first two levels (
Energy Plant
and
Fortress of Solitude
).

The good:
* Pretty much the same as every other LEGO game. :)
* They're not afraid to make tweaks to the story to make the game better.
* They took an already funny movie and added more humor.

The bad:
* At least two roles were recast (Alfred and 'puter).
* So far Batgirl doesn't have very many lines (although
she also wasn't in these parts of the movie
); when she uses Batman's powers to progress the plot he gets all the dialogue.
* The game doesn't tell you that Robin has dive ability, so I need to go back to the first level and get a missed minikit.

The ugly:
* All the cutscenes were recreated in-engine; there's no movie clips this time. (Although at only 2 GB in size, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised?)

You can pre-download them from the main menu (Options -> Add-on Content).

The only other alternative would be for them to go back to putting the add-on content in the patches, but then we'd be getting 20 GB patches instead of 11 GB patches. No thank you.

On the Xbox One and PS4 at least you can predownload the packs from the store.

This works if you know in advance what you want to buy. But if you impulse buy a story pack and come straight home, you're not playing until you download a patch. I'd prefer the option to auto-download patches as an opt-in feature, so I'm always up to date on content (and by default no one who doesn't want the patches wouldn't get them).

Fair enough. I know in advance that I want to buy everything, so I do just download everything; having the autodownload would be nice. :)

Thanks for the impressions on Lego Batman Movie guys. Seen the movie on Saturday and going to start building the legos today and give the set a shot!

For anyone looking to fill out their collection Five Below has some fun packs for $5. I found a Superman and they had a wall of Wonder Woman.

grabbed the starter set for £32 today can anyone recommend any good sets i was looking at the ghostbusters 2016 set how long is it in regards to gameplay and content

do we know if it will be a fun pack or a story pack?

After seeing the Lego Batman movie and seeing them just completely all-in on 80s nostalgia, my wallet is infinitely grateful there is no pc version. I'd have easily spent $300+ on this by now.

Can anyone confirm if the harry potter team pack with Harry and Voldemort opens up a new harry potter world or is it the same as the Fantastic Beasts one?

Thanks

It's a Harry Potter world - different from Fantastic Beasts. Off the top of my head, it contains Hogwarts exterior, Grimmauld Place, Godric's Hollow, Hogsmead (I think?) and some other places.

That's great. Thanks. I'll get that set or the Hermione set that's coming out later this year.

I haven't played this game for 15 months but I'm still buying sets. I'm hooked!

Any impressions on the Lego Batman levels and world?

Does it feel too close to the Lego Batman games, or does it genuinely follow the movie?

I'm sure this question has been asked dozens of times over, but how does this compare gameplay wise to the stand alone Lego games? I have Lego Batman 1 - 3, Lego Marvel Superheroes and Lego Marvel Avengers. I have greatly enjoyed each of those games, more so the Lego Batman series and I'm deeply curious about Lego Dimensions. I already have Supergirl, though I don't have the starter yet. I'm familiar with the Toys to Life genre, but I don't fully understand what are the minimum or rather necessary packs needed to purchase to enjoy all of the game's content, characters aside.

Outside of Amazon, are there any other recommended online retailers with cheap packs? I'm keen to find the cheapest entry point to this game as possible.

eBay aside, is there somewhere I can buy Green Arrow for a reasonable price?

Very similar, with the additional puzzles that require the use of the portal. Since you liked the other LEGO games, I think you'd like Dimensions.

* The starter pack is enough to let you finish the story that comes with the game.

* The story packs and level packs each come with additional story levels, that can be completed with everything in the pack (1 level in the level packs, 6 levels in the story packs).

* Each franchise has its own "Adventure World", an open world area with 25-30 quests/puzzles to do (similar to the open world areas in newer standalone LEGO games). To gain entry, you need a figure from that franchise. Some franchises only have an Adventure World, no story level. (For example, E.T. and Knight Rider.)

If you just want the story content (or all of the trophies/achievements), then you need the starter pack, all of the story packs, and all of the level packs.

If you want access to all of the areas, but knowing that you won't be able to 100% things, then you need all of the above plus at least one figure from the other franchises.

If you want 100% completion, then you need the above, some more. You may find the LEGO Dimensions Tracker useful; you can plug in what you have, and it will tell you the best way to get from what you have to being able to 100% the game.

If you have Gamers Club Unlocked at Best Buy, that gets you 20% off on LEGO Dimensions packs as well. Best Buy and Target seem to have pretty good sales about every 6-8 weeks.

My buddy gave me his PS4 copy of this game (he wanted it on Xbone instead) and in just a few weeks I've alresdy amassed a small collection and hopeless addiction to this game. It doesn't help that the local co-op is perfect for me and the girlfriend.

I finally get you guys now.

Man I really wanna play this game, but even with the markdowns on amazon, for just the base game and the packs I'm interested in (portal, simpsons, adventure time, bttf, sonic) it's looking like over $160 to jump in... that's a bit silly. I wish it was just a regular lego game with lots of characters instead of the toys to life stuff.

So I just came back from the Lego Batman Movie and now I need more Lego. Is this a good game to jump right into?
I liked the Story Pack for The Lego Batman movie. You might like it if you loved the movie.

If you have a PS4, go with that version. You get an exclusive Supergirl figure. Oh, and if you have any 99cents stores around you, then you might get lucky and find some packs on sale there.

If it was, it wouldn't be as cheap as you're thinking, because all of those packs you listed would be paid DLC. (Even if the base game had all the characters, it wouldn't include the level/story pack levels.) Assuming each Adventure World + Level DLC cost $10, you'd still be looking at roughly a $110 entry fee.

Also, I'd miss the physical interaction with the portal if they did that - I personally like those puzzles. (Though I wish the master build bits didn't require it.)

I'm the other way, I wish the sets were much more extensive so I felt like it was buying Legos and not just Lego shaped action figures, that might actually motivate me to buy them regardless of the digital content.

So I have purchased the lego batman movie pack for my son. (X360)
Gone to play it and can't select it from the 'level select' option as it's just a black circle? All addons are installed and up to date.

My son has overwritten all 4 of the save games and they are all at the witch fight on the starter pack. Now I'm waiting for a gandalf to arrive as he's lost the original and it's the only character that can progress the story.

So I just came back from the Lego Batman Movie and now I need more Lego. Is this a good game to jump right into?

The game has a nice chunk of the super villains from the movie like Voldemort, Wicked Witch, and Gremlins. You can recreate the mayhem to your heart's content.
So yes.

I haven't played with legos since the mid-80. How do you get these bastards to stay together? Superglue? I am about to just use the bases and not bother putting the individual figures together. If I go that route, any tips on how to label them?

What's the issue? Lego normally stay together like glue except for certain finicky pieces.

Just picked up the latest wave yesterday, and I laugh every single time I ride the Bionic Steed that comes with Excalibur Batman. That animation is fantastic.

You don't need glue for lego to stick. It all 'clicks' and stays together by design.

Also using glue to put Lego figures in their place turns you into the bad guy from the first Lego Movie

I played the story pack before watching the movie and thought Robin's "worm" animation was hilarious as it was. Then I saw the movie and now I love it even more.

Nonsense like Gandalf's cap and staff and other accessories are always falling off. I just want to play the games not keep track of all the nonsense.

The cap should snap onto the head, you may not be pushing down enough. The staff and other hand held stuff can be tricky, I could see setting it aside.

All that said, if you're not into Legos, why did you get this? Lol

wat

I've literally never, ever had issues with Lego bricks sticking together. WTF are you doing?

Hand stuff tricky? How? O.o

You're supposed to 'click' the hat on head, not try to balance it on it. If you click it, there's really no way it should be able to fall off by itself. Same with the staff. Trying pushing it in place a bit harder.

It's hard to imagine how that stuff is falling off. If you put Gandalf's hat on, and you hold Gandalf upside down, does the hat fall off? If that's the case, you're not doing it right - it clicks in place by itself. You'll never need glue for Lego. Again, that just turns you into the bad guy at the end of the first movie.

The staff and other hand held stuff can be tricky, I could see setting it aside.

Hand stuff tricky? How? O.o

Yeah this. What's different about the hand stuff? If you click a handheld object in a Lego figure's hand, it should be able to stay perfectly in place. I really don't see how it could fall out by itself.

I mean, honestly, if you don't want to deal with the Lego figures I think you may be playing the wrong Lego game. There's a lot of them, and this one is the only one that involves actual Lego. They all play pretty much the same, and the added figures (and I guess the crossover stuff) is the appeal of this one, and the only real difference. If you're not interested in that you're just throwing money away since having to actually buy the Lego makes it much more expensive than the other games.

Hand stuff tricky? How? O.o

I don't know about that particular piece, but I've had plenty of lego figures where the hand held attachments can be annoying to get to snap into the hand, it's also something that will weaken over time compared to the "normal" way Legos go together. I'm not saying it's difficult, just that compared to building other aspects of Legos it's worse. It's also somewhat less intuitive compared to regular lego building for someone who (clearly) hasn't done it before.

I was content to just buy the packs myself and my husband were interested in, but then I made the mistake of looking at and filling out the spreadsheet someone posted in here. When I saw how close I was to being able to 100% complete the game I couldn't stop myself. I couldn't even wait for a sale to buy the remaining packs I needed. I feel like I should join a support group or something, "Hi my name is Soulfire and I like to fill bars."

Played through the Sonic pack at the weekend, someone clearly had a lot of fun developing that.

It's great how the Sonic pack is essentially a love letter to the franchise, but it's unfortunate that the level design makes it practically unplayable with 2 players, especially if one isn't familiar with the typical tropes of Sonic level design. It should have been marketed with a 1P disclaimer imo.
