The patch notes just mention Ghostbusters.
Huge LEGO fan, but was put off by the costs of this game. Picked it up on sale during the holidays and resisted every temptation to go out and buy level/fun packs. Finished the excellent campaign... and I think I'm done with it.
I dunno... the adventure worlds are cool and all, but is there anything to really play for other than collecting gold bricks and completionist stuff? From what I played in the LOTR/DC/Lego Movie worlds it's all pretty mindless fetch quests.... that usually require characters I don't have. Would love to play the Back to the Future/Simpsons/Portal levels, but hear they're only 20 mins or so. Seems a bit much for $30.
Was this game a flop?
Was this game a flop?
The BTTF level pack is short, but the other ones are longer. I think someone said the Doctor Who one lasts like two or three hours? I don't know why the BTTF one was so short, but it's the only one that's that small. The other ones are much more worthwhile.
The game wasn't a flop, but it's had a slow start. It's doing a lot better post-holidays since it sold pretty well for Christmas but I think in general people feel that the base game is too expensive at $100. Whenever it goes on sale for like $70ish it does really well, but at the normal price it's just not moving as much as stuff like Disney Infinity or Skylanders.
The big thing with Lego Dimensions is they're not going to be releasing new 'versions' of the game in the future. There's not going to be a Lego Dimensions 2 so much as they're going to be updating the game to work with new level packs, adventure worlds, etc. Though I know I and a lot of other folks are hoping for a followup story campaign at some point, not that I'm sure how they'll handle something like that.
But it mostly comes down to if you're going to enjoy the sandbox play or not. I like that kind of stuff, and the huge variety of environments and characters you can use makes it feel fresh even when you're doing the same kind of thing in a few different places. However, if you're not enjoying the adventure worlds, yeah you might just be done with the game at this point. I'd say you might want to check out a level pack or two if you can get them on sale, though.
They might not be doing "Lego Dimensions 2, 3, 4, etc" per say but I would be shocked if they didn't release new story campaigns each year beyond just additional Fun/Team/Level packs. It's still too early to tell, the game isn't even 6 months old yet and we're not even at the half-way point of the announced additional content, so honestly who really knows. But I think it's way too soon to declare this a flop or success. Yeah it's got a slow start because of the steep price of entry but I'm pretty sure Lego expected that. They see themselves as a premium toy company much in the way that Apple sees themselves as a premium tech company. They view Lego Dimensions as its own platform and they've got three years of expansion content planned out, I think we should at least wait to see what their plans are beyond the first four waves of toys before making any kind of judgement.
The difference is that they're still releasing regular LEGO games like Avengers. The amount of content/characters that come with those just undermines Dimensions value even more.
I've just seen the trailers for this, I was expecting them to really cut back on the content of the other Lego games to push Dimensions but there honestly looks like there's probably more content in Lego Avengers than there is in Dimensions with every currently available pack combined.
You could probably buy it along with Lego Batman 3 and Hobbit for less than the cost of the dimensions starter pack alone. Obviously you wouldn't get any actual physical LEGO though.
*City Undercover aside.Exactly.
Dimensions seems to have designed for toy collectors more than anything. To each their own... but I could care less about owning plastic toys. It's just a shame that Dimensions had the best story mode in any LEGO game*, and so they're clearly putting the extra focus on the series. Lego Jurassic Park was a bit of a bore.
So...Is there any sort of known glitch in the boss fight called "A Show of Strength?" I'm on the phase where he's flying around in a bird form and while flying monkeys are attacking you. There's this set of walls on the right that Wildstyle can wall jump up that I built, but try as I might, she never grabs the top bar to pull herself up. I keep jumping over to far and dying. Did anyone else have issues with this or am I just special? Frustrating as fuck.
The Portal and Simpsons level pack both only took me 45 minutes to complete, so if the BTTF one is shorter than that, well that's shocking.
However, those two level packs I mentioned do open up pretty big hub levels, but I've already said in an earlier post why that doesn't excite me, and that I actually think the hub worlds are pretty boring and a waste of time unless you're an absolute completionist.
The difference is that they're still releasing regular LEGO games like Avengers. The amount of content/characters that come with those just undermines Dimensions value even more.
So yesterday, i was fooling around in the Simpsons hub world when in a garden area i find one of those multi colored cubes fenced off by what i was SURE was a silver cage. I then proceeded to use the taunt o vision, placed it near said cage and took it off to trigger the explosion.
NOTHING happened. at all. I was under the impression this would destroy SILVER bricks though, correct?
Anyone got an explanation for this or just a bug?
I disagree. I love how - unlike other toy-to-life games - you don't just slap the toy down and wait for them to die. The toy is an active part of the gameplay. The thing she hates about Dimensions is the constant changing of Legos off the base. We sit about 12 feet away and it breaks the experience. The puzzles seem forced sort of like how I read on an Amazon review where Nintendo could have released a game without pad use but force it on the player.
Not that I know of. I'd recommend getting a USB extension cord. Amazon sells an AmazonBasics one that's 10 feet long for under $6.Is there any possible way to have the base hooked up wirelessly?
My wife and kids have almost every LEGO games now with the recent sale getting The Hobbit. PS Now gets them Batman 1-2 (we have 3 on PS4), and Harry Potter 1-7.

The game itself they love, graphics, story, gameplay, etc. but the base changing is annoying.

Took me a while to find the one you were talking about (just left of the portal, final house in the first row?) and the silver blew up when I removed the taunt o vision.
Did you place it close enough to the silver for it to blow it up? Tried using a different character or object that blows up silver (if you have one)?

Taunt o Vision DOES kill silver bricks right?
Yes. Carry it near the silver bricks, then remove the Taunt o Vision from the base to make it explode. Sounds like you did it right, no idea why it wouldn't have cleared the Silvers.

Dude get Wicked Witch she's total VIP. Can easily destroy silver bricks, flies and has some of Gandalfs powers. Plus, she's the only one that can open the Wizard of Oz hub world.
Looks like I'm between a rock and a hard place, I went to download the new patch and it turns out my Wii U doesn't have enough room to download it. Since my external drive uses up both USB ports, I can't have both that and the base in at the same time. Plus my Wii U itself is the basic ones from launch, so Dimensions is literally all that's there.
Gonna have to either see about a new external drive or I might just cheese it and use a memory stick if I'm feeling lazy. I'm itching to give the Ghostbusters stuff a try, plus grabbing Sensei Wu with all this finally gets me the Ninjago content.
I was confused when you said front USB, but then as it turns out I never knew there were USB ports in the back of the console. 3 years and I never noticed until now.Just get a USB hub for the rear, which is what I did, or plug the base into the front USB port.
Technically they're also used to upgrade gadgets (like the Companion Cube) too.So, are Gold Bricks needed for anything else in the game other than upgrading vehicles? If not, then i can upgrade away since that would actually benefit me quite a lot to finally get some abilities rolling that i am missing with actual characters.
The final announced world hits next week correct? How long before does the patch usually appear?
I'm worried about the future of this game.
You've been able to get most of the figures for 50% off for many weeks, even pre-orders for figure packs not yet available at 50% off.
Will LEGO be doing more content for this game, and/or release a sequel in 2016? The enormous amount of sales has me wondering...
Other toys to life games have sales but not to this extent, especially not on pre-orders.
