LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Finally started up this game, the portal took me a while so many damn pieces lol, now im driving the Batmobile with Homer Simpson in the Wizard of Oz, this is fuckin awesome!

Got the complete set (supergirl starter, both story packs, all the level, team and fun packs) for my family for Christmas with only green arrow missing but on order from ebay, we fired it up tonight also.. the portal took some time to put together but wow does it look good once finished.. by the way is it common to get extra pieces? I had about 5 extras of the small pieces for the portal.. and I believe the bat mobile has 3 forms so that's why it also has extra pieces?

Yea i had some pieces left over as well an im assuming its for the different batmobile configurations, better keep them just in case.

Got Dimensions for Christmas (actually I bought it for myself the week before, nice job Me!) and I love it.

I absolutely loved that X-PO was able to be put together with those extra pieces.

My question is, does he clip on anywhere or is it just a standalone piece? I might just get some clear stick pieces and make my own, there's a Batman polybag out now with some good ones that would be perfect.

Yes, LEGO will often include 1 extra of the very small pieces (1x1 plates, both square and round, especially). Their philosophy is "better too many pieces than not enough."

None of the extra pieces are needed for other forms, they should be just spares.

As I'm slowly playing through the story mode, I'm starting to realize how annoying some of the constant gamepad mechanics are. Just constantly switching between "modes" to solve one puzzle just sucks.

They sure do, although it doesn't hold a huge amount,

And they fit the vehicles just fine? I wouldn't mind getting a few just so I don't have the figures on every flat surface in my room.

This is interesting to me coming from Skylanders/Infinity. I really think it's cool that the portal is a lot more interactive than other games but I do think the puzzle mechanics they use come up a bit too often. I don't like the shrinking and growing one that much, mainly because a lot of points in the game where that occurs there's no real hints of what to do. Oh? I had to go find the piece of the climbing wall somewhere else? Oh but it doesn't go in that hole, it goes in another? I mean at least one of the characters saying, "I think we'll need another piece here" would have helped to at least alert me that I needed something else.

Hey guys, friend gifted me the Sonic Level Pack and I did the jump on Amazon to get the PS4 Super Girl starter pack for like.. i think 30 but I had points so it was 15 bucks.

Quick questions I suppose, can I play as Sonic for all of the levels or only on his specific level?

I agree with you. I like how it's way more interactive than Disney Infinity or Skylanders, but playing through the Portal 2 Story level, it was annoying going into a room, cycling through all three powers to solve sometimes very obtuse puzzles, going into another room and doing it over. Early on was a lot better when you also had character abilities to take into the mix, but it feels like there's a lot less emphasis on that and more on the powers.

You can play Sonic on any level, but you will need other characters to finish them. For instance, you can play with Sonic during the story mode, but you won't be able to complete it unless you also have Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf on the pad. But you CAN have all four on the pad and cycle through when you need to.

Also, to play levels like the Back to the Future level, Adventure Time, or Ghostbusters (etc...) you will need the Level packs for those.

All characters are playable everywhere, but you will often need to use other characters powers to make progress (which isn't a problem since you can have 7 on the base at a time).

Is there a listing anywhere of every ability I'll need or at least what characters have the most crossover abilities? Right now I've got Gandalf, Wyldestyle, Batman, but I've also picked up Cyberman, Emmett, Benny, Unikitty, Bad Cop, Legolas, Gimli, Gollum, and today picked up Zane and Laval for their Ninjago/Chima abilities.

Are there any other deals going on right now too for these? There's one or two more I think at Five Below where I picked up a bunch of these at so I might go grab that one too.

And is Jake just the OP character? I noticed him a lot in many of the characters with abilities that I didn't have

I think you've got most of them that I can imagine. Although I have seen a few for the Midway Arcade cabinet gadget. And for the Year 2 stuff, I've seen Harry Potter/Voldemort show up a few times.

I didn't know Five Below had Lego Dimensions sets. I may make a trek over there to see if they have some fun packs.

Ah yeah that dang arcade thing showed up everywhere near the end of the game. Yeah they just have Fun Packs of Benny, Bad Cop, Legolas, Gimli, Zane, Nya, Laval and Cragger. As a matter of fact it looks like you can get them all online on their website too, but I've never bought from them online lol

EDIT Woah, just checked again, looks like they also have Eris (Chima) and...Emmett, Wonder Woman and the Wicked Witch?! I had no idea they had those too.

Oh cool. I'll definitely get Wicked Witch too.

Best Buy has all their LEGO Dimensions stuff at 50% off, with an extra 20% for GCU, http://bit.ly/2hDmsMc

I haven't really dug into the game, but for collecting for the future purposes: I have Simpsons and Portal level packs, but which other ones would be worth $12?

Best Buy's website is your friend. Even if they're out right now, the sale is going all week so they'll surely restock.

The only thing I ordered today was the Fantastic Beasts Story Pack. I already snagged most of the other year two packs I wanted on Black Friday (Ghostbusters Story Pack, Gremlins, A-Team).

For most stuff. The Harry Potter Team Pack is OoS on the website and in all stores within 250 miles of me. Still, I was able to order the Wicked Witch pack, Aquaman pack, Ghostbusters level pack, the Jurassic World pack, and the Gremlins pack.

I decided to play the Sonic level today, so I went on earlier, realised I had an 11gig update. So fine, I went away, I've just come back on now, only to find that my saved 27 hour long game has vanished, and has been replaced by the 7 minute game I played earlier.

Wtf is going on? And since when do I have to download level packs separately from the PSN store?

So I bought the starter pack during the holidays ($24 was too tempting to not purchase), along with the Sonic pack, but I'm considering picking up one or two other packs during this sale. I'm thinking of either BttF, Simpsons or Ghostbusters, how are these story(if applicable)/content-wise? are they worth picking up? Anything else I should consider?

Don't give up hope, man. The sale is going all week long, they will restock. Just keep checking.

The patches for year 2 reset the timer on the saved game files. Knock on wood, at this point they seem to have fixed the bugs that destroyed other data too. So the timer was reset but the rest of your stuff should be there.

They did that for the year 2 content. Their patches are all full patches; by separating out the content, instead of including it in the patches and pushing it to everybody, means that they don't end up with a 26 GB patch like they would have otherwise.

Thankyou for your response, Hamster. I realised last night after finishing the Sonic level that all my progress was still there, despite it looking like my save file had been wiped. Very confusing at the time.

Anyone have a good abilities spreadsheet? Someone on Reddit made a pretty good one for the first year, and I haven't seen a good one since. I'm trying to get characters with unique abilities/levels that'll help me get to 100%, but I don't want to buy everything.

Any word on the new wave coming early February? I know about the Lego Batman Movie story pack and the Knight Batman fun pack, but anything else is coming out?

Apparently there's a massive issue today with most or all Year 2 content. The game is getting stuck in a loop of deleting and reinstalling the add on data, which locks you out of the levels and adventure worlds.

I can vouch for this happening with Sonic, Gremlins, and A-Team. Anyone else having these problems?

There's also a gamefaqs thread on the ps4 version board.

This is getting tiresome. Great that they aren't making us pay for the game every year, but instead we're getting issues and glitches every time they add content. This is starting to encourage me to wait to buy new sets until the bugs are ironed out, which is the opposite of what they're probably aiming for.

I don't think it's completely fixed, but I reinstalled the add ons from the Playstation Store this evening and went back into the game, connection active. No more nagging to delete and reinstall on my game. Seems to be a workaround at least.

So, I finally got back to this game and played the Sonic level. I think it has dethroned Portal 2 as the best LEGO Dimensions level pack and probably the best SONIC game in years.

I disagree, but only as a coop player. I know they didn't want to make a Tails figure or let player 2 use a figure that's not on the base, but it just wasn't fun with one player as Sonic and the other gimped.

I never thought of how coop might be affected in that level. They should make a Flash minifig for Player 2.

I...should probably start panicking about getting Shaggy and Scooby.

I would get anything you want from that list ASAP. I wonder how this will affect access to those adventure worlds... it hardly seems fair to new owners of the game that some of the content would be locked away with no retail avenue to unlock it.

Edit: Unless year 3 sees new sets based on those themes...

Since Dimensions uses standard Lego pieces, it makes sence that its sets also retires, since Lego won't keep their molds in production forever. Scooby-doo sets retired at the end of last year, so they won't keep producing those pieces. About the locked content I don't know. I don't thing they will introduce other characters from those franchises in year 3. That will require that they keep those molds in prduction as well. So that hubs may not be aciceble for newcomers.

Considering the issues that Disney Infinity created for itself by commiting to all 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 figures being available from their introduction onward forever (for certain definitions of forever), Lego retiring older sets makes a lot of sense. I imagine they'll reissue these characters and/or vehicles in the future if they see a demand, maybe in different combinations or something. Like a solo Scooby Doo fun pack or a Wonder Woman/Cyborg team pack or whatever.

Should help clean up shelfspace a bit in favor of the newer sets too.
