LEGO |OT 3| Build Hard. Buy Fast. No Mercy.

So no Smithers, no Moe, but Nelson and Ralph? With those two missing and Comic Book Guy and Barney (amongst others) to add, how big are the chances of a second wave happening?

I was initially quite cold on the Simpsons house. I wasn't impressed with the build, and certain elements seemed undercooked. The way the garage attaches to the house is poorly implemented.

...but now that the kids are playing with it I am totally turned around on it. The "completeness" of it as a house is awesome. If you are worried about availability I would expect it to become scarce faster than the (amazing looking in-person) Sea Cow.

I would think the Simpsons set will linger around for 2 years or more unless it is not selling well after the initial buying frenzy. I would expect the Sea Cow to go away sooner than the Simpsons set.

I think it will happen if the Simpsons CMFs sell very well. Have to wait and see.

I don't see them adding Moe if they do a second set, since they don't want to make his tavern and all the beer association. Probably Barney too. :(

For a second set I'd imagine something like... probably variations on some/all the main family again plus additional side characters. So like..

Bartman w/ spray paint
Hazmat Homer w/ radioactive bar
Concert Liza w/ saxophone edit - somehow I missed that her CMF comes with a sax wtf
Marge variant?
Maggie variant?
Grandpa Simpson variant?
Smithers
Sideshow Bob
Lenny
Carl
Patty
Selma
Principal Skinner
Otto
Groundskeeper Willie
Miss Carbbapple
Flanders child?

I'd love to see Moe and Barney though, they're such staple characters. They'd help fill out that roster too. I personally would love Poochie.

which of the Lego Movie sets do you guys think are best? So far the only thing I'm planning on getting is the Spaceship but I would like to at least also buy something that gives me Emmett and Wild Style

You should get Super Cycle Chase. It's a nicely built set that has both characters.

I'm really happy with metal beards duel! It's very unique. Want to pick up on mr business evil lair sometime but it may be to late.

These sets have both characters and are hard to find because they are the cheapest sets that have them both.

Cloud Cuckoo Palace $20 and you get Uni-kitty.
Melting Room $13

Not necessarily for them, but they're sure to have more in the works. The license wouldn't just be for one set and one wave of minifigs.

I was all excited for the movie sets but once they came out and they were on the shelves I didn't really like many of them.

I would get the vehicles, but they seem kind of expensive.

So I've kind of gone off them a bit. Might change my mind once I see the movie.

If anyone was looking for the new TMNT sets or...the new series of Friends animals...they should be showing up at U.S. Lego stores any day now.

If that Darth Revan poly is real, I will gladly pay any GAFfer willing to get it for me.

(Better than paying stupid amounts of money at my local store. They're selling Jor-El for $50. Jor-El!)

Hong Kong; where you'd think everything would be cheap!

I should visit HK and Japan someday and raid their game stores.

Oh I see. I thought it was weird because there's a Lego Store in the B2 (or was it B1 ?) level of Tokyo Station and I thought they get more or less the same deals that we do...
And yes, I'd think everything would be cheap in HK !

Yeah, I'm in Hong Kong.

Prices for stuff in HK is pretty random. Sometimes -- a lot of the time -- stuff is super cheap. Other times, things are crazy expensive. There isn't really a proper enforced MSRP here -- the market decides prices, for better and for worse.

So since the Simpsons House is not in Toys R Us or other chain stores, it's only in LEGO specialist stores... and one of them is charging $600 for it. US$600!

I got lucky on Bricklink and found someone in HK selling the Death Star (BEST STAR) at close to US MSRP, but mostly it's been pretty hard to find LEGO for a decent price here.

Had my first attempt of a MOC since I was a kid. We're having a competition at work using the Power Mech set. Winner takes home the Martian Manhunter minifig. I've still got a long way to go before I'll win that.

Any tips or suggestions are very welcome.

I was going to say just play. But I'm a beginner myself so what would I know.

I did ask for some pointers to more advanced techniques, but never really got a reply.

Just try to get some interesting studs-not-on-top techniques going. My preference is to go for GOOD models, but I've found people value originality and creativity a bit more than quality.

Thanks for the reply.

I had another go tonight and came up with a sort of bird.

Got Friends Animals series 4 at TRU today. Used a $5 reward to make for a pretty good deal. No sign of other new sets. I've read that the new TMNT stuff is showing up at LEGO stores though. Not just Shredder's Lair but all of them. Waiting till April first for obvious reasons though.

Dat Stay Puft!

My predictions:
Sherlock - Won't make it. Vague project.
Macross - The one 100% guaranteed not to make it. Licensing nightmare.
Zelda - Unlikely after the other Zelda rejection.
Japanese architecture - I want this to happen, but I don't think people are interested.
Adventure Time - I can see this passing.
Back to the Future - Too expensive.

(I also think LEGO wants to make the Female Minifigure project happen, but not exactly in its current form, and are trying to figure out how to make it more appealing to the masses)

Doesn't k'nex have Nintendo sets? I saw Mario but I dont know if they have any exclusive Nintendo deal. I hope not because the Zelda Lego set looks awesome!

I decided to check out my nearest Toys R Us to see if they had anything I hadn't seen yet.

It ended up having the weakest selection of any place I've gone browsing for Legos at, and I noticed Dragon Mountain was marked up five dollars, too.
