Ok so, update on the Desert Skiff situation.

The coworker and I worked together today, and one of the first things he did when he came in was say he had to talk to me. When things died down he told me that the manager was gonna put the set back out on the shelf so he bought it to keep it safe. He said he hadn't opened it and asked if I still wanted it. I told him that was super cool of him to do and that I wasn't too concerned about the set, if he wanted it it was his. We both really just wanted it for Boba Fett but he's an actual Star Wars fan, and it was cool of him to snag the set for me, so I wanted him to have it.

I'm glad I didn't get too pissed about it and waited to hear his side of the story. He's always been a nice dude and him just grabbing it for himself seemed way out of character.

IN OTHER NEWS!

Last night I was moving some sets around on my new shelves, and I put my modulars (Grand Emporium and Town Hall) on the top shelf of one of the units. The shelves are wide enough to fit 3 modulars perfectly, but I only have the two... I started decorating them with super heroes and I rememberd that I have the Daily Bugle set in my backlog. I built it and stuck it next to Town Hall and...

MAN is it pathetic. I gotta grab another modular ASAP, sheeeeesh.

Gonna use those turbines from Dr Doom's ship to MOC the hover features into the Quinjet! Anyone know if there are instructions for such a thing readily available online or should I just hack away at it myself?

Granted I haven't built my Daily Bugle, but I think it's getting a bad rap. It's meant to be a playset facade and as such, I think it's decent based on the photos. Comparing it to modulars isn't fair IMO.

I'm glad skiffgate turned out to be something actually positive. Another reminder about jumping to conclusions.

Hey WordAssassin, can you let us know if the Fairground Mixer sells well or not in your store? Thanks!
As far as I can tell it sells pretty well. There was a point where we had two on display, one in the front of the store and one in a special display where kids could turn the knob and make the Mixer spin. A lot of us thought it would be a really good idea to put the two side-by-side, but one of them totally collapsed down to just the trucks, to show off that feature. But people are always pretty amazed when we flip the box over and show them that everything fits on the two trucks.

Say, I wonder if the Ferris Wheel will have the same features? 2-3 trucks that haul the different parts of the ride?

Glad that the Skiff situation worked out. Like I said, talking to the coworker first was the way to go. But he beat you to the punch.

Everything is awesome!

As for the modding a Quinjet with the thrusters, the propellers in the Doom ship are too small. They should be larger for the Quinjet to fit properly. They should go close to the 6x6 plates on the wings to be correct, and the Doom propellers are 4x4.
Rats! I had a feeling I should have gotten the Green Goblin set since that one has Spidey's weird copter thing with huge thrusters, but I was afraid they would be too big. In the end I'm glad I got the Bugle though since we haven't gotten any in for weeks (over a month maybe) and who knows when we'll get more.

I may have come across too harsh, I was only comparing it to the modulars since I built it and stood it right next to them (the biggest one, at that). But yes, on its own it's pretty nice. It has a bunch of play features and nice little details, even comes with the "iMac" printed bricks (2x2 screen and 1x2 keyboard). Plus the MINIFIGS!! JJJ, Nova, Dr Doom? And of course Spidey, and then that Beetle guy that I honestly never have heard of before but he comes with an extra set of silver wings so I'm not gonna complain! It'd be cool if someone MOC'd up a Modular-scale Daily Bugle.

Remember, the Daily Bugle has one of the strongest mini fig assortments out there. Spidey, Nova, J Jonah Jameson, and Doctor Doom. Hell, the set is worth it for Doom alone.

Like I said, talking to the coworker first was the way to go.

By talking to his manager, he not only would have learned that the set was going to be put back out for sale, but also the reason why. He'd have a valid explanation. And yes, the co-worker would have still come forward with his reason for buying the set.

Working things out with co-workers is great, but there's nothing wrong with talking to a manager, either. No one's going to be punished or fired unless she/he really does something to justify it.

I know this is getting off topic but I think talking to person directly before going to management is always a better way. It also avoid any potential problem in the future, in this case the guy is actually not only being good co-worker but also awesome human being.

I respectfully disagree about it always being the better way. Talking to a manager can provide an extremely positive outcome for all parties involved, including dissolving any potential problems which may be building in the workplace. People have to remember that managers talk with all of their subordinates, so there's a good chance they're privy to much more information.

The practice works. Otherwise, the concept of having a manager over individual contributors would have been dismissed a long time ago. I'm not a manager, but I do have a good one and realize the value it provides to me.

I'm happy that the option WordAssassin took worked out for both sides. I just want state that striving to be the "good" person shouldn't be the only factor when deciding whether or not to go to a manager. Talking to a manager doesn't make one any less righteous.

PSA

If you have Fred Myers near you they are doing their annual buy one get one 40% off deal. I remember I picked up many of the first series Lego The Movie set this way. This discount also apply to the Mifigures series and the Pixels. They have series 4 and they are also a dollar off. If you pick similar price item it work out pretty good. So you in effect get 20% off across the board on any theme or sets.

Sale doesn't work on clearance items.

Picked up the Tusken Raider minifig today. Great fig! Just gotta find a good home for him. Maybe on top of Orthanc sniping down at all the other minifigs?

Also grabbed some parts... thinking about a fun little tweak to one of the BEST sets in existence. Just need to find a few more pieces...

Just finished the second floor of the town home building of Pet Shop. Sticking that second floor on top of the first floor is a glorious moment. Everything already looked incredible, but just putting those two first sections together for the first time was brilliant.

Second floor has my favorite lil touch.

Now that I've finished the second floor, I'm guessing you're talking about
the painter/paint on the wall?

Absolutely brilliant.

Yup. When building the stuff on the floor, I just kept trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Then the moment you put the mini figure in and that tile on the wall, it clicks in. So simple, but so awesome.

Hey guys!

I saw that the Minifigure series 13 has a fencing minifig. And I was able to get my GF into Lego with our 3rd date. She loves and does fencing, so my idea for valentines day or her birthday is to recreate a olympic fencing battleground out of lego. But before I am heading to a Lego store to get the most parts, I kind of asked myself if there is a program to create a Lego construction digital to know which part I need?

Thanks for you guys help!

Haha yeah, same. At first I was like, "What is this? Some sort of post-modern couch and coffee table? This is some pretty weak furniture..."
Speaking of furniture and interior decoration, what's that black thing supposed to be on the coffee table by the stairs and bathroom on the first floor? A phone was my best guess, but I'm not 100% sure. Nobody uses those kinds of phones anymore though!

Ugh this spreading of all the awesome minifigures across every single set does a number on me for these Superhero themes. Especially when they include figure variants of other characters as well, which makes it harder to just piecemeal the figures. Once a set has 3 figures you need it's a better value to just buy the set for the extra pieces and value you get for your money vs bricklink

Oh well, I've planned for this. I've intentionally skipped Minecraft and most of the Agents stuff (just to name two themes) to make room in my budget for all the superhero and star wars stuff this year.

You may have to resort to Bricklink or eBay. You pay a premium for the minifigs, but it's still cheaper than buying a whole set for 1 or 2 minifigs. I used to rationalize it's cheaper to buy the set on sale or clearance, but now that I have too many bricks I may soon start buying just minifigs for sets I don't particularly care about.

Wait, is this sarcasm? I wrote this in my review:

"The town house is a very typical New York or British design, with stairs leading up to the front door and an extended window section. Inside there is a furnished livingroom with plenty of fancy details, including a telephone (and I realized when building that eventually kids won’t even recognize what it is), a sofa and a small toilet stashed away under the spiral stairs."

Haha. No, it wasn't. I mean, I'm definitely old enough to know what a landline is, I just wasn't sure what time period these modulars were supposed to exist in. It was a vague enough telephone that I had to question whether or not whoever designed it would put a landline phone in the set when those are no longer used (and especially that classic rotating dial-style landline).

Finished Ultra Agents HQ. Yeah, it was a slippery slope. I want more now.

The trailer section build was cool but kind of a let down after the truck cab. Because the main truck part was absolutely fantastic. The hidden missile launchers and firing mechanisms are so great. And the mini figs are a blast too.

I need to get more of these sets now. Dammit.

Infearno Interception is a must!

Coolest lego vehicle I've ever built.

A while back we were talking about the Arctic sets and how they were gonna refresh the Ice Breaker in January, and how it's got basically everything you need out of the theme in it (Huskies, polar bear, snow plow, research place, helicopter, and of course the ship.)

We just got them back in and... $130?!?!? Even with my discount, YIKES! I mean I get it has the ship hull in it and that's what you're paying for but oh my god. Even the mega base set isn't nearly that much. Yeeeesh I'm gonna have to save up my VIP points for that one. Hope it stays around long enough. ;__;

For what it's worth

8534 Tahu (2001) - 33 pieces, $6.99

70787 Tahu, Master of Fire (2015) - 89 pieces, $19.99

I'm guessing removing the canister helped decrease costs.
