Happy Halloween LEGOGAF
I just finished the Haunted House in time what an awesome build and an even better display piece!! Really glad i still got it after debating it for a long time... This truly rivals the best modulars... plus i love the pop open dollhouse effect and prefer it by a long shot to the modulars where you need to take off the roofs etc.
This is such a freaking cool set. Never saw it IRL yet anywhere tho.
Minecraft sets are available in Europe now.
S@H USA has updated their "Retiring Soon" tags with some surprising entries:
31004 Fierce Flyer (a GAF favorite)
31008 Thunder Wings (one of our previous MOC Contest sets)
41050 Ariel's Amazing Treasures (less than 1 year available)
60058 SUV with Watercraft (less than 1 year available)
70125 Gorilla Legend Beast (less than 1 year available)
70127 Wolf Legend Beast (less than 1 year available)
75003 A-Wing Fighter
75018 JEK-14's Stealth Starfighter
75019 AT-TE
75022 Mandalorian Speeder
75039 V-wing Starfighter (less than 9 months available)
75041 Vulture Droid (less than 9 months available)
9493 X-Wing Starfighter (goodnight, sweet prince)
I really wonder why Lego doesn't always have some of the classic go-to sets in print at all times. I know the X-wing has been in print a long time but you would think that's a set they could sell decent numbers of all the time. Unless they are working on another redesign to release in a few years.
I'm fine with those retirements, but i'm not happy that V-Wing is already retiring when I haven't even seen it discounted anywhere yet. I have been holding off on that one hoping to snag it for under $20 -- hasn't yet happened.
It is just a $10 string of LEDs from Target. The lights are actually spiders and it is battery powered. I just carefully threaded the lights through floor by floor, and the battery box is just outside the back door of the house.Nice.... what kind of LEDs did you use? I am looking to do something similar... and since i am not a big tech buff at all, were they easy to install/get going? (are they plug and play lol)

Check target today, they might have the same stuff I got but clearanced since it was Halloween themed. They came in this tiny lil round case. If not they have Christmas ones for cheap too. I just thought the green added character to the house.
Awww yeah.If anyone goes to target today, the batwing and arctic polybags are 50% off.
The LEGO Movie Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! will be $80 at Walmart tonight/tomorrow!

Awww yeah.
On my way now. Not for this reason, but it's a nice bonus. Hope they aren't cleared out.
I remember last year I snagged several city polybags at target after Christmas for $1 each. The sea plane I believe.
Anyone see this deal active in-store or online? I'm checking online and it's still showing $94.97.
Thanks for the heads up Neonglow.
Great score for $1, but the sea plane explains why it was still around.
If you ever wanted to see how it is on the "other side", JANG has done a review of the huge Call of Duty Hovercraft, which is part of their Signature Series - the equivalent of the LEGO Ultimate Collector Series. At almost 2,800 pieces, the set has some features that LEGO should take note of, one of which being NO STICKERS. Everything is printed, which is how it should be on an "Ultimate" or "Signature" set.

Interesting. At first glance I thought it had lots of giant specialised pieces -- but JANG says it's actually a lot of small normal re-usable pieces. Impressed.
I believe Mega Bloks have found their niche. Those "minifigs" have higher articulation and are basically mini action figures. LEGO minifigs have a certain appeal, but older kids will appreciate the higher articulation IMO. Also, LEGO won't go near those war related themes.
Once Mega Bloks improves their brick quality LEGO better worry. If Mattel doesn't spend extra money to beef up Mega Bloks quality, they wasted their money buying Mega Brands.
This is such a freaking cool set. Never saw it IRL yet anywhere tho.
Apparently the brick quality and "clutch power" have been improved for the 2014 Mega Bloks releases. If Mattel is serious about taking LEGO on, they'll keep improving it, and use their marketing and distribution experience to expand Mega's presence.
IMO, LEGO is going to have to step up their game eventually, or risk losing licenses to Mattel/Mega. Hopefully LEGO is not so blinded by their current success that they lose sight of the long-term. Regardless, competition is healthy.
Agreed. Competition is good for the consumer.
Kre-o from my limited experience has decent bricks (not LEGO quality, but better than my experiences with Mega Bloks). Kre-o's issues IMO are their Kreons are ugly. They look fine for Transformers, but their human Kreons seem off. The other area is design. Both Kre-o and Mega Bloks needs to up their game in set design (not necessarily the over all look). Granted my experiences are limited, but non-LEGO sets feel more like assembling and less fun/interesting. Highly specialized pieces are part of the issue for me.
Alright detective LEGO GAF....I'm gutting our could room today and came across this. I have no idea when I got it but judging by the printing on the face it came out several years after I got out of LEGO (I was done by '87).
Any ideas what this is?
I think you may have mix of different pieces. That minifig face was exclusive to Ice Planet 2002 sets (and some western sets).
There is a very similar minifig face in the Extreme Team though...
I've got it - 6567 Speed Splash.
I am at last done with 10937 Arkham Asylum and it's an interesting build from start to finish. Got lots of detail and I really like how I can switch the three structures around and it looks really good that way.
People at Brickset reporting it scanning at $80 in store. Not sure why they didn't update the online price.
30% off or more is the dream. but harder than ever to score... at least on choice sets. Retailers really being stingy on coupons too, particularly TRU which is more interested in pushing their CC now than giving casual customers incentive to come in and spend some money. Needless to say... I hope they throw in the towel on their credit card BS and go back to the old way of issuing coupons. Just one of several reasons why I keep refusing when they try to sign me up. :/
I'd love to find a dropship at 30% off, that's the last "big" movie set I need... err, other than the Seacow Which I may have to just pass on completely since i'll never be able to get it on discount due to LEGO's policy and that's $250 i think I can spend way better. Starting with Slave I.
I got one this year and used it a bunch on the extra 10% off thursdays along with a 20% off coupon. Then my wife saw the bills....
I paid it off in full and surrendered it to her.

Does LEGO GAF have any thoughts on Blocks magazine? I know brickset has been pimping it at every opportunity... but has anyone here read the first issue?

Here's my latest project, my very first custom modular: Fancy Suites.

Here's my latest project, my very first custom modular: Fancy Suites.
I drew Fancy Suites on a post-it one night at the airport. The central idea was the big glass front, with an elevator to the different floors. At first the elevator would also have glass walls, but it turned out that the 2x5 transparent panels were extremely expensive. I got the idea for the angled wall from Green Grocer, although I lenghtened it a bit. The bottom floor and the elevator/hall area is one piece while the different floors can be removed individually like any modular house.
The house is mainly built from parts of Town Hall and Family House, with a bunch of specially ordered interior details and decorated tiles to add flavour, as well as a restock of generic pieces used during the build. I was inspired by several of the latest CMF's so I made sure to track them down as early as possible, especially the rocker who was needed for Rick Lightning. The eighties theme came about for several reasons. Partly because I had planned an eighties apartment to include on the second floor of Palace Cinema (when that was supposed to become Trendy Arcade), and partly because I needed something to use all these bright Friends colours on. It also allowed me to continue my story from the arcade.
I had had plans for a fully custom modular for some time, but what got me going was a competition at Swebrick. Fancy Suites was mostly completed in a 12 hour marathon in late September, except for interior details and the last parts of the roof.

Great modular- I love the recording studio. Definitely helps sell Town Hall as a decent set too, if only for the MOCing possibilities! Here's my latest project, my very first custom modular: Fancy Suites.

Hal's mask seems too small for his face.

Nice work. I notice some Town Hall parts.
Is that photographer paparazzi, private eye, pervert, or jealous girlfriend?
Brickset posted an article about this display system previously. It's quite awesome and a great idea. Only issue is it's too pricey IMO. This image does a good job of selling it though. Imagine a huge wall like this. Would be so awesome!
