LEGO |OT 4| EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

So today I got two sets from S@H. Here's my mini reviews for the both of them:

Hulkbuster:

Great. The actual Hulkbuster is awesome and severely outclasses the Lex Luthor Power Armor from way back. It just looks great and has a ton of possibilities. Making the cockpit was a very fun experience. Everything about the build was great.

The minifigures are good. Scarlet Witch looks great, Iron Man is Iron Man, Ultron is okay, and big Hulk would look great next to my little Hulk if not for him being almost grey in color.

I'm not interested in building the little Hulk ship thing at all, so those are all just going to be spare parts.

Overall 4/5

Ant-Man:

Minifigures are legit amazing. I love both Ant-Men. Yellowjacket is awesome - although his backpack/lasers are a bit too big, although I have no idea how they would do it otherwise.

Antony was fun to build, although I am pretty darn disappointed that you can't move his legs beyond rotating them a bit. I really wish they were more posable, and after building Hulkbuster (+ mixels with my siblings), I can't help but think that if they really wanted to do it, they definitely could have. I might have to finagle with them a bit to see if I can change the design or something to make the legs posable.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with the giant Lego catapult thing. While it looks cool, I might dismantle it for parts.

Overall 3/5

Good luck with that. After Bricklinking that X-Wing, I ended up Bricklinking Larry Lars' Snowspeeder, and then it was all downhill from there...

That looks beautiful.

Any lists somewhere of all the parts needed? I have no idea how I'd find most of those if I tried to look for them myself.

Lonely Mountain will only be a parts pack for me, but my god. Smaug is amazing. The pictures of the figure do not do it justice.

He was the reason I wanted the set, and damn was it worth it just for the dragon. There is a new king on the shelf next to all the dinosaurs.

The Smaug figure is chiefest and greatest of calamities.

Damn straight. After building him and stretching his wings out all thoughts of the price of the set passed for me. I don't think they will ever top him. The rest of the set is still nice. The mine car/pulley thing is a neat build and that throne and stair case looks really neat on its own. Lots of sand green pieces if someone doesn't want to take their haunted house apart.

Hmmm. Tempted to build the set now and not just empty the bags.

But yes, in person Smaug is a magnificent beast. I will get a pic of him rightfully dwarfing the dinos soon.

I got over 1000 sand green 1x2 bricks and another 1000 1x2 bricks with the brick print on the side of it from lugbulk this year. going do do some cool buildings with it for Chicago next year.

Hah yeah I got the same in sand green, I've got about the same of dark tan, nougat, dark bley and light bley from previous years. I really hope they do dark red ones next year for LUG, I'd love some tan or brown ones too

Yeah I got the other colors too. got a bunch of other interesting stuff as well. The only one I don't have a ton of now is Dark Bley and I am planning on putting in for the Dark Red next year. I want a couple thousand of those.

Like, I got a bunch of the black lego roller skates to use as a facade design.

Infested with Bunnicula's. (I got that friends bunnies set for my pet shop). I feel bad for Ryuuroden. He set the bar really high for himself now we are expecting something apartment sized next.

You should see the airship chainsaw mockups I have built already. They are the size of real chainsaws :D

Yeah I have nothing really planned for mine, when work is less busy I want do a whole display of movies scenes like that old one I did but use no modulars, just all my own creations, maybe the BTTF town hall, my firehouse, maybe the new movie ghost busters HQ

I'm watching some of these Scooby Doo reviews and wow, even though Shaggy and Scooby are in like every set there are variations between them and not just the sitting and standing Scooby. There is a Shaggy with print on his shirt and different heads and the sitting Scooby with the plane set has goggles. I was already getting all of the sets but i'm not sure how people will feel about this. It's neat to be getting different variations of them when getting all the sets instead of having alot of doubles but for collectors who weren't going to get all of them this may annoy them.

I thinks great. Lego shouldn't have to always appeal to collectors. The little details are a nice touch, regardless if some people feel they need every single variation of the mini figures.

although they might intentionally be doing this for collectors so they'll be more motivated to get all the sets

Yeah, I have no interest in the Scooby biplane as a set, but I love the headless horseman minifigure as well as the Scooby with pilot goggles. Ugh!

I'll probably risk waiting for a clearance on that one. All the other sets are instant buys for me.

It's awesome that there are little variation for minifigures in each set. It's better than getting the same Lone Ranger/Tonto or Harry Potter minifigure in every single set.

Spider-man is the worst, I've got about a dozen identical minifigs of him.

B-but... now there is a Spider-Man with boots! I must upgrade my minifig!

Also in the August Batman sets, why does one have Batman with the new black boots and the other doesn't o_O Not very consistent, LEGO. And naturally the way more expensive set is the one with the new legs.

JANG is very fond of the Scooby Mansion. Possibly best in the wave?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdVc6l3Lhmk

Personally on Aug 1st I'm getting the Mansion and the Mystery Machine. Probably pick up the others over time.

I'm not sure what the stock is like elsewhere, but I know a couple of the local (Australian) lego specialist retailers who said the Scooby Doo is going to be like Jurassic World, retailers will get one delivery of the theme and that's it, no more. Jurassic World sets are already getting hard to come by here.

I think I'm gonna buy the whole theme on august 1st, I've got about $70 VIP points saved up to use

More progress on my Halloween display today. I am going to be making an abandoned church for it. I have all the windows and exterior detail mapped out, but am now working on the interior. Got some pews and am working on a pulpit. Really happy about scaling down the books from the outside of my bookstore MOC to be mini figure sized. Now it looks like the preacher has an open bible as he tells the sinners to repent as the monsters are unleashed.

You should make a preacher kneeling outside with a Rawhead Rex build or custom big fig "baptizing" him. Then you can spread the love that is Rawhead Rex to others.

That probably makes the 1 billion identical Spiderman minifigs value go down even more.
LEGO has to use up their existing inventory of non-boots first. Putting the new booted Batman in the more expensive set is consistent with LEGO's strategy.

Only if we get celery pieces. They must stalk at midnight!

I am not sure if serious or not.

I'll leave it up to your imagination. I do not plan on releasing WIP pictures this time. I will be posting pictures of the "smaller" builds that will go with this project. The main build will not be teased picture wise.

I will say there is yet another Lego part just like there was in orthanc that I have virtually bought out the USA bricklink stock of. At least the reasonably priced stock. I am not going to spend a dollar a piece.

Built the Tie Advanced Prototype. I'm LttP on this one so won't bother with pics but anyone still on the fence about this set - believe the hype. I'm jonesing for the UCS Tie Fighter now but I just splooged on the modulars, i'm splooging on Scooby Doo and Jokerland next month and September is Millennium Falcon and Lego Dimensions and i'd really like to pick up the Tumbler at some point.

After years of sitting in a box doing nothing, ive finally taken my old lego boxes out of the box, and set them up on the shelf. Most sets are from the 80s-90s period during my childhood days, but there are a couple more modern ones, such as the LotR set on the bottom shelf. Sorry for the grainy pic, I'll try better next time if you like.

Whoa. Great stuff there. And this gem is hiding in the back there.

Very, very nice.

I got a bit more of my MOC done tonight. The interior is 90% done on the church now. I am particularly happy with the organ.

Not bad progress for only one day of building I think. The church is 32x40, and so far is 13 bricks high.

I dunno, not really working for me as I kinda pictured Hulks organ would be green

I'm pretty sure that I had that Shell Station... or maybe it was one of its predecessors, as that looks like the 1986 version.

I had time tonight to sit down and build for a while... So I pulled out my large grey base, some boxes of bricks and then..

Drew a blank. >_<

I keep hitting this wall of making MOCs :( I am a visual artist who does a ton of crwative design and software/games but when it comes to brick building I don't know... It makes me feel very dumb to be entirely honest even after learning so much from official builds and other MOCs.

90% of the time I end up just trying to build mechs or spaceships -_-

Draw out what you want to make. That should help you visualize.
And sometimes just start laying bricks down without a plan. Just cobble pieces together and see what it makes then embellish from there.

Maybe it's just the nostalgia but the old sets all seem to have a certain charm that's missing from the modern ones.

There's a simplicity and elegance to them, in everything from the parts used, to the theme and the way the product is displayed).

Any news yet on a new Christmas set this year? Seems like info usually comes out 5-6 months in advance. I got Santa's Workshop last year as my first one, and I stare at pictures of all the previous discontinued Winter sets with extreme envy. Hoping to build out a nice little Lego Christmas Village someday.

The Duchovny/Anderson pic is awesome btw!

I just asked this question in here the other day. No news yet--we should hear pretty soon, I would imagine. I love Winter Village--easily my favorite series.

It is such a terrific little ship. I built a stand for Benny's ship this weekend (will post a pic later) and unfortunately the Tie Advanced Prototype is now dwarfed by all the larger ships around it. I see it coming off the shelf once I get the UCS Tie. Awesome build though, especially for those on the fence!

You must be so glad you kept the old boxes. Lots of amazing nostalgia there. I'm of a similar LEGO vintage to Ghostmind, but I can still see glimpses of the packaging I used to have on your boxes.

I love the pulpit - it's really well done and totally un-ambiguous. If you turn it upside down does it look like a Chicago Bulls logo?

I dunno, not really working for me as I kinda pictured Hulks organ would be green

toysrus.com says my local store has the Big Bang Theory set in stock!

I know what my plans are this morning.

Put that mailer coupon to use that expires July 31.

Eh, I kinda feel the same way at times. Sometimes it's not with certain sets but often with other older sets, the charm is still there even after all these years (Which is why I tend to collect more older sets at times)
