I ordered a few LEGO Dimensions sets that were on sale for Black Friday. I got the Doctor Who level pack (now I'll have all the LEGO Doctor Who stuff!), the Harry/Voldemort pack, and the Beasts and Where to Find Them movie set. Didn't need to pay for the Gamestop ones since I had a bunch of credit, too.

If they still have stock, I might get the Green Arrow minifig from Gamestop. It wasn't listed in the order, the the product page says it will be added when it ships.

That will probably be the only LEGO stuff I get this holiday since I've been splurging a bit lately (hey, some of it will be gifts!).

UK: Not sure if these are great deals or not, but there's a few early Black Friday deals up for The Entertainer, including some Lego: most notably Kylo Ren's Shuttle for £70, First Order Transporter for £60, and Quinjet Chase for £56

I do note a Rogue One set has slipped into there (U-Wing) for £52.50. At the cheaper level I know some people like Treehouse Adventures, and that's £20.

Train Update: IT LIVES!

Wasn't hard to convert at all since the old 9v motor is the exact same size as the new 9v motor that you'd connect to a battery. I was worried the motor might be so old that it couldn't pull all the cars, but it does just fine. Going to look great under the tree.

Where did you put the motor? I grabbed the set this week and plan on using Passenger Train's motor.

There are instructions in the back of the manual that show how to convert the Holiday Train to power functions using the existing power functions (Motor + Battery + IR Receiver + IR Remote). I just ignored everything but the motor as the 9v motor I used gets power from the tracks. The motors are the exact same size, with the same stud pattern, so it wasn't difficult at all.

I haven't opened the box yet so I didn't know there were instructions. Our house is undergoing a massive renovation right now so I'm really hopeful it'll be ready in time for a Christmas display featuring the train.

The one I've got is the 2010 set.

Man, seeing trains just makes me miss my local unofficial LEGO store so much. They had such a massive collection of old trains, tracks and 9V parts.

At the minimum you need the train motor and battery box. That will just send it going.

Check your local LEGO store as they might still have stock of the specific power functions

Shit. This puts my grievances in perspective. In the end as an European I have enough options to shop around in other countries via for instance Amazon, so as long as it isn't D2C I shouldn't complain too much (and Lego tends to keep the D2C mostly in check here compared to other EU countries, allthough there was some stuff that had at least 10 euro mark-ups, like the VW Beetle)

I asume you are Brazilian? Is there any way to get your stuff via Portugal without to much markup?

Same here. As the Lego Batman sets don't release this weekend I can't order what I planned to get the snowglobe. If the 20% off isn't only on the Camper, but also on the Mini Cooper I'll get that. Otherwise I'll probably pass unless they have a suprise up their sleeve. I don't expect them to though.

I was on the fence to maye order power functions for the Christmass Train, but I find it too expensive for what is basicly a gimmick.

A Power Functions set (battery box, wired switch/controller, 2-LED light and a "M" (medium) motor) runs for $30 on Amazon. Not sure whats involved making the M motor work in a train.

If you pick up the Power Function items that come with a current train set, you'll need a battery box (AA's) IR remote, IR receiver and Train Motor which will run you about $55 from Lego S@H.

Yes, Brazil, land of corruption and absurd taxes.

We have no tax free deal with Portugal, and only fr some South America countries IF the goods are produced there (not the case of Lego.

For a company to import something and sell here there us a hell of a chain of taxes, depending of the kind of goods. For toys, I think it lands around of 70-80% of production cost. Meaning: Lego Brazil (which is a different company from TLC) probably declares the production cost of a set like a tenth of the final price, doubling it with taxes, and selling for 4x more! Too much markup.

If an individual tries to import something, the taxes ranges from 60% (normal post) to 95% (courier services like DHL ) calculated against the sum of the item price AND the shipping costs. Of course a package may slip customs inspections, but lately it is pretty tight. Considering the shipping costs it may not worth the effort.

Bad situation, really.

Yup. It will give you instructions on how to use those parts to make it work. What I have is motor functions from an early 90's train set that I adapted. The old train sets had metal tracks, and a motor with metal wheels to get power. The tracks were plugged into an outlet. So the upside is that I need no batteries.

This is the actual set I had. You can kind of see how it works with the attachments on the rail for power. The train motor is in the engine car.

And there would definitely be other trains before then.

And I rewatched Civil War today and now I want to include the damn airport battle scene even though the Quinjet would go straight into the parts pile along with the tower.
