[Polygon] 8BitDo no longer shipping to US from China due to Trump tariffs

The labor part is huge even if we did remotely catch up on facilities people here in the US have to have higher pay to survive

My brother in law about 10 years ago or so started a lawn mower repair business out of his garage as a part time thing that exploded and he had to build an actual shop that has turned into a 6 bay massive building

He has said so many times finding good help is insanely expensive

We were just talking all things economic over Easter as I asked how his business was going and he is looking for a guy to just work on riding mowers and he said one guy he interviewed wanted $50 an hour and a $5000 sign on bonus paid up front IN SOUTHERN INDIANA

How are we supposed to compete price wise with a work force like that?

Just controllers like 8Bitdo would triple in price

Man that's nuts LOL! Thanks for this insight. It helps to put things into its proper perspective.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 is go to controller! I have gone through a lot of expensive controllers, and it has become my main unit. Guess I will be getting a spare while I still can.

I hate politics, but there's a reason this is all happening, and it's unfortunately related to political decisions. The increase in tariffs is affecting a lot, and it's wild that there were/are people attempting to deflect that. Calling people dramatic, etc. It'd be even sillier IMO to just wear a blindfold and act like nothing is going on.

I think that folks are doing a good job not allowing this thread to fly too close to the sun. Lord knows that's not easy.

It really sucks that 8bitdo has made that decision, but it makes sense. Hell, my girlfriend's job has almost all of their manufacturing done in China. They're a mom and pop company that have been successful for decades. But now they're scrambling to figure things out because of the massive increase on tariffs. It's a shame.

Labor wages are determined by supply and demand just like everything else. China has a shitton of supply. So much so that having something made there and then putting that thing on a boat and sending it half way around the world is cheaper than having it made here. Most western countries are never going to be able to compete with that.
Not only do they have a shit ton of supply, but their society and government is designed to supplement the lower wages. Their $15,000 salary goes much further than it would in the US.

"We have to do something, no matter how stupid"
you're whining about global supply chain organisation while basically being at odds with how our financial system fundamentally works....lol. you probably should read up on why inflation exists...
This is blind and stupid activism directed at everything and nothing while trusting in billionaires to fundamentally change the system that made them billionaires.
..... Do I even have to point out how stupid this is?

"Apple making changes is the idea here"
creating subsidiaries in the slave labour country right next to the other slave labour country....
Great Idea, so much win.
I'd facepalm here but I don't have enough hands.
No one said we are trusting billionaires, but you realise the alternative is... checks notes... trusting the other billionaires who were already fucking up the world :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It is a great idea, it's one of the biggest companies in the world and it's pulling out of China which can potentially help cripple their economy and their global stranglehold on the majority of the world.

You do realise this is more than about buying little plastic things online? But i suppose if you can buy the plastic toy for cheap but your kids can't afford shit then all is great right?

Who ended the gold standard, and why?
Those two questions are at the core of the global mess we're living in today.

Honestly, I don't even know where to begin and let's be real, the whole China situation was designed to benefit the United States in the long run. It would have been way worse if usa didn't push china as they did.

If anyone out there truly believes this 'new world order' is going to make life better for the average person, I've got a massive bridge to sell you.
Oh, you are 1000% correct in this being a self-made situation, and the US absolutely benefited (the 1% of the US) compared to the rest of the world.

That is why trying to enact any sort of change is going to be essentially impossible because all the evil roots and veins of this shit burrows deep, the blowback is going to be astronomical, as you are currently seeing.

I can't speak for anyone else, but i don't believe in "a new world order", i just think there's a fuckton of corruption that the 1% has profited from for years and it's so engrained now that it's essentially undefeatable, so i can see a positive in trump trying to do something rather than pretending if the world kept doing nothing it'll all be fine, because the bridge I'm gonna sell you is the one that it absolutely wasn't.

There is no future where 2-3 generations from now, people are growing up and not being able to afford what we would consider a regular life. I mean, even for me, technically a millennial,I have had things much worse and much more expensive than my parents or their parents ever had; these are just facts.

So everyone can kick and scream all they want, but I see a silver lining, even if it's only just a glimmer of a chance.

Otherwise, we can all go back, i guess, and we can buckle up for $100 dollar games and $700 consoles (bringing it back to gaming) because that is where we are heading if something isn't done in the near future.

Trump's a billionaire with billionaire friends, so of course he's part of the 1% that benefits from all of this. Did you know he tweeted 'buy stocks now' just three hours before announcing that 90-day deferral deal? Stocks skyrocketed right after.

Believe me or not, but Trump and his buddies are going to make a fortune from all this and they don't care one bit about the average person, in America or anywhere else.

Anyway, ideological debates rarely go anywhere, so I'll leave it at that. If you think any of this is going to change things for the better... well, good luck with that."**

Another thing is when Andrew Jackson had his war against the banks, they tanked the economy on purpose to blame Jackson. Same as right now, you threaten the big financiers, they will cause pain so they may continue to profit.

But this could all be theater to keep our eyes on the wrong place.

Its looking bad now when its game consoles.

Wait til it's food and basic necessities start skyrocketing more. That's when it's really gonna get ugly.

TLDR: Blame the French. They wanted to stick it to Nixon and demanded to exchange their $$$ for gold. At that juncture US had way more $$$ in circulation vs in reserve after expansion years post Bretton Woods.

So Nixon basically had to go off Gold Standard to prevent "gold run" on US reserves. Now, that was supposed to be temporarily but he had to resign and that was that.

So once again, The French did it! 😉

I mean yeah, the global powers couldn't kill two presidents so close to each other, so set one up and force them to resign that doesn't play globalist cabal ball. ;)

Now Watergate looks like a total joke and child's play compared to with these politicians do now.

…. Let's not get into super Conspiracy Theories…

Nobody setup Nixon, he did it all himself. Our current state of politics is telling if we think Nixon should have stayed in power.

You can still be guilty and set up trusting a mole/rat too much ;)

And what exactly is the connection between this tariff nonsense and your general issue with how our financial system works?
Also....china has a global stranglehold on the majority of the world?...by offering cheap labour? Right, must be them and their workforce for hire and not that other country with the 750 military bases in foreign countries.....
And "crippling" their economy by making it a bit less attractive for ~10% of their potential fabrication customers...good luck with that. India and Co have a much better chance to do that by simply being cheaper . And I probably don't even have to ask why you would even want to cripple anyone in the first place......

And the same question: that basic systemic issue has what exactly to do with the tariffs?

I never said it's going to change things for the better, but at least it's something.

why is infinite Inflation and poverty for more and more people the best option. Because it's the known one?

all billionaires will do that, so whether it's trump or soros or bezos or musk etc.

again its so easy to say the new thing is terrible meanwhile the old thing was just as equally terrible, so what is even the point then.

Do we just just resign to the fact that there is no hope or no potential solution?

tariffs will sure be hard if you are a pussy addicted to buying garbage. One day we might actually make stuff here if people could chill for 5 seconds.

Because these tariffs only affect cheap toys.... Right.
Thank god it's not like a giant part of basic components and resources for pretty much everything is also affected.... /s

It doesn't have anything to do with tariffs; that's literally the point. You seem to be confused.

Your posts are in a tariff thread. I'm sorry I did not immediately realize that you are actually going full tinfoil hat general whining offtopic.....
...
...
Ahhh the classic you were wrong and instead of just saying sorry or you misread, call the other person a phobe or crazy or some form of derogatory thing.

well I'm glad your input was as useless as it sounded.

it never actually made any sense but i was trying to be polite by pretending it did. It was just mostly word salad :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and didn`t immediately label you as a tinfoil hat apocalypto nut, that was indeed on me, my bad. Should`ve not assumed that absolute nonsense was based on anything but personal "issues".
I´ll leave you to your global apocalypse and enemy at the gates fantasies....ignored.

Fuck Trump. Who cares if China is probably using slave child labor to make me cheap controllers.

Do the other 89 countries also have such reports? What about the penguins on Heard Island, do they have some chick-labour crime syndicates? Must be the case, because these tariffs couldn't be based on absolute stupidity and Ego alone, right?

That's ok, Florida and a few other GOP states are trying to catch up quickly as far as child labor goes. We can have children make controllers right here in US of A!

How strange

Not for nothing, but here in Mexico they sell arcade stick very cheaply, they even give us discounts.

Only 70 dollars

More cheap than a game of Nintendo Switch 2

At least they would get paid in Florida and be able to go home when off work.

Just my opinion. In the long run the tariff strategy will be mutually beneficial to USA and other countries. I'm aware of what is happening and just trust the process which is still in its infancy. It is also fair for USA since other country had already put heavy tariff to USA products in the past. And it will also stop China government for skirting the laws in world trade, dumping products, intellectual property rights violation, spying, and stop labor malpractice and human rights violations. I dont mind if in the early stages that we might have some slight price increase in gaming related products ,because I have a job and love it and I'm working hard and I have enough funds and proper budgeting for me, my family and extras for gaming. Price will stabilize soon and we shall have better and fair trade around the world and jobs will increase in USA after all of this.

You never had a legal job as a teenager? I worked since I was 15. Hell, I even picked strawberries (also legal) in the Summers when I was 12-13.
I have been working non/stip since 13 and full time while going to College.

That's still different from what Florida wants to do alongside many other States trying to pull back Child Labor laws.

you are very worried about your luxury items aren't you. lol. and you only seem to care about wheat happens RIGHT NOW. that's exactly the mindset that got the US into the downward spiral.

GDP is a joke. It includes inflation and government spending. Inflation goes up and therefore so does GDP, even if more things aren't being produced! I think these days nearly half of GDP is government spending while the real economy withers. If it just included GDP of the private sector, it would look very different.
