LG injunction lifted; PS3's set free

Good luck with pulling that move elsewhere LG, your case got thrown out and flipped back on you in the relative slam dunk zone for this type of litigation.

What exactly was LG supposed to gain from the injunction anyway?

Put some pressure on Sony to accept its conditions in a future licensing agreement. These suits and counter-suits are just the preliminaries. LG and Sony are just making the mating dance to decide who comes on the top.

They want royalties for each of Sony's Blu-Ray players that are sold, between $2.50 and $2.55 for each one. And since they aren't getting any at the moment this would have maybe pressure Sony to sort out a deal.

It looks like Sony wants to negotiate with LG :
As I reported in my previous post, it seems that LG's focus is on getting paid for its Blu-ray patents while Sony wants a comprehensive settlement of all disputes between the parties. In addition to lawsuits between Sony and LG there is also a lawsuit in the Eastern District of Texas that was brought by Zenith, an LG subsidiary, against Sony over eight digital TV patents. Apparently Sony wants all disputes with LG, including the Zenith case, settled at the same time. This includes Sony's own claims against LG. In particular, it claims many LG smartphones infringe some of Sony's patents.

Gamer.nl also says that Sony's lawyer said they are willing to negotiate "but not with a knife at the throat", apparently a reference to the situation in which Sony found itself after the prejudgment seizure order.

Also, a possible reason why the judge lifted the seizure order :
I have learned that the key reason for the court to lift the seizure order was that this kind of measure didn't seem fair given the history of negotiations between the parties. The ruling didn't only overturn the prejudgment seizure order but also told LG to inform the Dutch customs authority and ensure that no further confiscations would happen.

Let's all donate LG

Well, that won't happen til there is a PR of them claiming that this is for our freedom, claims that Sony are assholes, and that somehow this allows us to actually own our hardware.

All LG wanted to do was liberate you from your poor misused PS3s. For too long, humans have hurt hurt PS3s, using them like tools.

They probably don't want to rattle the cage too much considering LG might be supplying them with 3DTV panels in the future.

That is usually as these matters go between companies like Sony and LG. They negotiate licensing of each other tech to use in their respective products. The suits and counter suits are used like negotiation tactics. They need to show that they are ready to escalate the measures to the point of expensive and long legal litigation. It's a war of attrition. The abnormal here is that dutch patent laws are prone to a "shoot first, ask latter" exploitation tactic. LG gambled with that to put some fire on Sony's side, or like Sony representative said "put the knife on their throats". Now they be back to more under the radar negotiations. Sooner or latter LG and Sony will announce a "wonderful deal that protects the interests of both parts" and all will go well.
