Lightning Returns Final Fantasy 13 E3 2013 Gameplay Demo

So I haven't played FF since 7. Can anyone give me a quick summary of the titles since then? I see Lightning Returns for 13, so I guess this is a sequel to 12? But then there is that FF Versus game also. Neither of them look like what I remember from 7 with spells and summons and stuff. Where should I jump back in?

Cheap quick FF13 spin-offs are not worth coming back to FF. I strongly suggest you wait for FF15 to come back into it.

Well they have the original one from XIII, and the XIII-2 one. And this one.

And this one looks cool.

And they have tons left they haven't unveiled yet. Plus you can add accessories to existing ones, so there's a little room for alterations. We don't know what all the outfits are yet. It'll be fine.

That's the one I meant to say "Shadow Dust". Dark Muse is the worst one.

The whole concept of playing dress up with Lightning is just absurd to me.

Outfits are nice, proven i can skip the most retarded ones.
But this animation as fanfare.. oh, saint god. Someone take the keys off Toriyama asap.
I swear I've seen that pose before in X-2. One of the dress spheres had it. I can't remember which one though.

Maybe she'll get outfits from other games too, like FFXIII-2. Lightning in Miranda's catsuit thing from ME2? I rike it! Who says no?

but does Lightning have an ass to make that costume work?

More positive impressions.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII finds itself trapped rather ironically in the large shadow cast by the recent announcement of Final Fantasy XV. I say "ironically" because back when XV was originally announced back in 2006, it was as the third chapter of the Fabula Nova Crystalis trilogy, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Now it's gone on to become the next core entry in the series on a next-gen platform, while Lightning Returns wraps up the FFXIII story arc as a current-gen game a few months after the new consoles launch.

That's not an enviable state of affairs for any game, but it's doubly a shame for Lightning Returns because -- based on what I've played of it -- it's genuinely good

Who knows how the overall adventure will turn out, but the E3 playable demo (which according to producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama represent a near-finished version of the game) focuses heavily on combat... and Lightning Returns features an excellent combat system.

Sorta off topic: is ff13-2 worth it? It's $20 on psn but ff13 (outside of the battle system) was a rather middling experience

It's more FFXIII basically, so you should know what to expect. Noel is pretty popular as a character, even among some critics. The game also added many more side quests, open areas and non-linear exploration. The OST is great. I thought the ending was fantastic.

The game is unfortunately a bit easier than XIII was, but capturing monsters and leveling them up is entertaining.

It's a lot easier, but it has some fantastic music, and an engrossing story(IMO). Most expected to loathe Noel, but he's a pretty great character.

That said, if you thought FF13 had a happy ending, it wrecks it.

I'd say don't play it if you plan to try this one at some point, just play this one. I didn't like 13-2 at all but this one looks somewhat fun at least, and looks like there are 'new' content, 13-2 was mostly rehash of 13 from locations to monsters. Story is garbage, you don't miss anything, battle system isn't as good as FF13, only 2 bad bland characters, not any interesting fights except in the DLCs, overall too easy.

Story here looks garbage too, but overall looks like a different game somewhat, 13-2 is less of the same and worse.

The story was absolutely atrocious and the ending was even worse but if you can look past these, it's a decent game.

Hah, that sure sounds like what I expected from a sequel to ff13. How long is it? I've got a real bad jrpg itch and I've only got a ps3 and a wiiU right now to scratch it with.

Victory poses change depending on her outfit.

Main story is about 20 hours long, but doing everything takes about 60 hours.

new outfit from FFXIV spotted:

Man... that kind of outfit doesn't jive well with the 'tough soldier' image Lightning has.

Pure fanservice.....

Even more outfits leaked:

The top left one is "Nokutaan", which probably translates to "Nocturne" as it is in katakana. The top middle is l'Ange Noir in English and was revealed recently. Top right was in the demo video, but is apparently called "Misutei Uizaado" in katakana. The 'ui' would be pronounced kind of like "wii", so I'm assuming it's supposed to be "Misty Wizard".

The bottom left is "Sutoraidaa", which is probably meant to be "Strider". The bottom middle is "Kuresento Muun", almost certainly "Crescent Moon". The last outfit has a kanji first, then "shi no" in hiragana, then "Batoraa". Judging by the outfit, I'd say the outfit is supposed to be called "Butler of [Something]".

Unless I'm mistaken, I have yet to see in game footage of this one. I'm really curious to check that out : while it's not the sexiest one, it's the most stylish one imo.

And man 100 costumes is a freakin' lot! I guess that Prada partnership wasn't just for show... I just hope it's not mostly DLC though.

Watched a full demo playthough, I think it looks good. I'm still certainly looking forward to this game. However, it really annoys me how it has to load into a battle arena and then load back into the game world. Just do it like Okami.

I thought they used it in that in-game demo when she had the pretty large sword? (It was about Buster Sword sized after the sexy arms in the air pose)

The game is still in development and usually loading time are something they work toward the end. It'll be fast like XIII and XIII-2, no doubts.

edit. ah, maybe you don't complain about the lenght ma the changing screen itself. Then I agree. Probably that engine is really shitty for this, can't think of anything else.

I have no doubt the loading will be faster, I just think the transition to a completely new area is unnecessary, and it would be nice if there were no loading at all. Also the results screen could just pop up in the corner or something, no need for it to linger and slow down the game experience.

Well, I expect it to be like XIII-2 probably, which is fine.

XIII on PS3 was flawless and had literally no load times except the chapter breaks. XIII-2 had decently long load times when using the historia crux, but not really anywhere else.

And this game has open world environments, so it'll probably be around the same as XIII-2 which wasn't a huge deal.

Bikini Lightning pls

SE really does know ow to please their Lightning audience

Her XIII outfit is the best.

The pose seems really at odds with the way Lightning acted in XIII, though. Like, I legit can't imagine that pissed off, rage against the heavens Lightning would strike this kind of pose.

I enjoyed XIII-2 and am still quite looking forward to this game.

While the XIII titles certainly don't represent the best the FF franchise has to offer (whatever that means to you, there is surely no consensus!) They aren't nearly as bad as some folks make them out to be.

Flawed, sure. But far from worthless.

It might after the vague amount of development she had in FFXIII but that's been thrown out the window for awhile.

I feel like even at the end of XIII she was pretty no-nonsense, and that pose is pretty nonsense. It's like something Vanille would strike.

I hate the whole ff13 world, engine, the whole thing. It suck so bad as a huge ff fan that they made 3 of these games:(

Gameplay looks serviceable, but seems as if it would get boring really fast, and i'd want to spend as much time avoiding battles as I run down corridors and slide down poles. I wanted to give this the benefit of the doubt, but as is, I'll probably wait until its $15 or less like I did with XIII-2.

Also, I hate the constant doomsday clock reminder thing. I have never been a fan of timed escapes/timed levels to begin with. Let me explore! Or in this case I guess it keeps you from hanging around and noticing the boring world and lack of interesting things to do.

Lightning does that pose each time you win a battle? Please say no...

This looks like totally lazy, uninspired fanservice for the five remaining Lightning fans on the planet, unbelievably bad. I fear for XV, it's the same company after all. :/

Every outfit has a different pose. So no, that depends you on. Also outfits seem to not give any stats change but are there only as accessories. Just play with your favorite costume (mine is her standard's one) and you'll be ok. They're not forcing you into liking every outfit, they're just giving you 100 pieces of clothes for you to have fun creating your own perfect Lightning.

Nomura though already chose for me.
