Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has committed suicide

This news sucks, it saddens me that the last LP album (which wasn't anything resembling LP) is going to be the final one.

End of an era. Fuck.

OML was a Linkin Park album in lyrics but with a different sound.

Just read the lyrics and you will notice that every song can fit in a Nu-Metal setting.

RIP. Was a big fan back in the day, saw them a few times live, including one of the worst live performances I've seen (their first Euro tour), and also one of the best (headlining Rock am Ring and blowing pretty much every band out of the water). Poor guy, and poor family. Pretty sad right now :(

I can't even imagine how Mike and the rest of the band feel. If one of my best friend's committed suicide I don't know if I could ever forgive myself.

Depression is no joke. Male suicide stats can be pretty scary. Stigma around mental health is as bad as its always been, but if you have some balls in-between your legs make sure to make an effort not to bully/treat your male friends like shit if they show symptoms of depression/anxiety/lack of confidence/etc. It's especially true that males are just supposed to man up or deal with emotions/mental health outwith the realms of reality. The reality being mental health issues know no gender divide.

Like many others, LP was a big band of my youth.

RIP. When I think of Linkin Park it brings backs some good memory from the early 2000's. There was a time in high school where I was listening to either Hybrid Theory or Meteora almost every day while studying. Still listen to some of those songs from time to time.
Just hard to process he's gone.

NOOOO GOD DAMMIT NO!!!

I STILL LISTEN TO HYBRID THEORY/METEORA/REANIMATION WEEKLY

I'M SORRY I DIDN'T SUPPORT YOUR LATER STUFF CHESTER. YOU WERE SO IMPORTANT TO ME. NOOOOOOOO

Well I'll never be able to listen to Crawling in jest any longer. It's sad he was suffering so much.

The belief in alpha male bravado and that mental illness is bullshit need to end. If not, more and more people are going to take their own lives.

Reminds me of the time Cornell joined him on-stage to sing it. Now that performance just seems eerie.

RIP to both of them.

What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

Wow.

Linkin Park got me into rock music and guitar playing.

Thanks for the life long inspiration.

RIP.

Funny thing is, I'll always remember my mother telling me to be careful what I listen to after she heard her 11 year old son listening to "crawling" and "one step closer".

She seemed to the think the songs had a lot more meaning and maybe she was right.

Very sad. Didn't listen to LP a ton, but I liked most of their singles from the first two or three albums. Got to see them at a festival in Vegas a couple years ago and they played a great set. RIP.

Fuck :'(

RIP to a legend.

Like a lot of folks here, Hybrid Theory was a very formative album for me and got me into Rock in a big way.

Can't even listen to 'Shadow of the Day' without breaking down...

Such a bummer!

Not a big fan of his music, but I got to meet him a couple times (we have some friends in common), and he was just a straight up GREAT guy. Down to earth, humble, friendly, etc.

Depression is a motherfucker.

This is crazy, I'm in the minority that actually liked their newer stuff. Also I could have sworn I saw him on a TV show not that long ago, part of some comedy central concert thing or something.

Horrible news.

Little known fact about him: He was an Ipswich Town fan; which is nice.

Linkin Park was quite a prevalent band in my teenage years. A lot of my friends were huge fans.

I don't think you're in the minority. I think it's just that they changed their sound a number of times so some people will move away and some won't. And then they'll also gain new fans.

I really like One More Light, more than the previous couple rock albums.

A Thousand Suns is their best album, in my opinion. It was weird, experimental and full of electronic sounds, which I love. It's followed behind closely by Hybrid Theory and Minutes to Midnight.

Guess I am not surprised by the totally lack of sympathy/empathy by some folks online (no one here).

People are horrible,

The amount of people in this thread using this as an opportunity to bitch about the new record makes me hate the world. You're all part of the problem, and you need to fucking check yourselves.

The relationship between a creator and their art, and that art and it's audience, is something the internet has absolutely ruined. Lost in all the bits and bytes is any shred of humanity when interacting with exceedingly personal art.

I've always liked the band. To this day I stil have a bunch of their songs in my Spotify playlist. RIP. I hope you are in a better place, brother.

RIP to both of them.

Was thinking the same thing. Seen LP and Chris Cornell at Projekt Revolution in 2008 and they did Crawling and Hunger Strike together. Less than a decade later they are both gone, and far too early. I wish I would have recoreded those performances, for all of the concerts that I've been to that one sticks out to me more than most.

I'm at the sort of age where I can legitimately remember most people having a copy of Hybrid Theory knocking about. It's a pretty big deal to lose that voice so young.

I, sadly, think losing Chris Cornell was probably the final straw.

If you suffer from depression, just talk to someone. Please talk to someone, let them know. Don't suffer alone, because you're not alone.

He was honestly one of the best vocalist I've ever heard, the stuff he could do with his voice was amazing. Horrible news to probably one of the biggest bands of all time.
