First single, "What I've Done" off the new album, Minutes to Midnight, is released on Monday.

Someone took the four different snippets floating around the net and put them together here.

And here is the chorus with part of a verse, which is a little bit better quality than what's at the end of that YouTube video.

I like it quite a bit, though the song doesn't do anything amazingly different. It's the first single, so I don't really expect that though. Just a catchy single. Chester's voice is still damn good.

So yeah, new CD comes out May 15 in America (day before everywhere else). Mike Shinoda produced it with Rick Rubin (!!!), so I have very high hopes.

We reported a couple of week ago that Linkin Park fans should expect big ... and very different things from their new album, 'Minutes to Midnight.' Well, today we got to listen to the entire album and we have two words for ya -- OH SH*%! Not only is this record the most melodic and diverse stuff they've ever written, it also some of the best music they've ever recorded. It blew away all of our expectations and we've got no doubts that the band has another monster on their hands.

I'm fairly excited.

Meh. Linkin Park doesn't seem to have progressed at all since their first album. This song just sounds like every other song by them.

go go google sponsored ads, go!

I own all their stuff, even the collision course thing they did with Jay-Z (which was cool). I'll likely get whatever they release just for continuities sake, but I definitely won't hold my breath for this album.

Same old same old... Don't change something that is not broken.... LP takes that saying a bit too far if you know what I mean. ;) All joking aside, its good.... Let's see if it can be as good as My December, Breaking the Habit, Numb, Papercut, Nobody's Listening, Points of Authority, High Voltage.... LP is like guilty pleasure of mine..

wait a second... google sponsored ads? so if somebody is talking about something in forum, the ad will be related to what the topic is? (Just wondering)

Agreed.

Honestly though, I think Meteora was, although great, a step backwards from Hybrid Theory. I really have high hopes for MtM, and I don't think this single will be telling of the whole album.

Yep.

I'll give it a try, wtf do I have to lose?

...

No sir, I don't like it.

They're not incapable of making a decent track, but I don't like this one.

They're making a big deal about this here in ATL on 99X. They've been advertising the debut all week long - they are playing it Monday at 7 am.....

The Re-Animation CD is my favorite by miles. Hopefully well get more stuff like that this time around. As far as "What I've Done" it's OK, but I'd like to have higher hopes for the rest of the tracks.

when it comes to emo music its judged by a different standard.

not really....most bands regardless of what sub genre of rock they fall into have their own style which is carried over in their new work. its just that when its a band like linkin park which ppl dont like much its OMG THEY SOUND THE SAME.

I think you missed my witty response and took it at face value :(

wait so all other bands sound different with every new album and every new song?

I see where you're getting at, but when you can tell it's a Linkin Park song by listening to about three seconds of it...that to me says they need more variation.

lol no it needs more variation cause u never liked their style in the first place. if it was some sound that u enjoyed a lot u would be waiting for the new work.

dont get me wrong...im not saying ppl should like linkin park. i just find the arguments they make for not liking linkin park hilarious.

Many of the arguments are quite hypocritical when you consider what bands LP haters actually like lol. Not many things annoy me more than music snobs :)

That being said there's no denying LP follows a very deliberate, exact formula in nearly all of their songs. Lyrically so many are basically the same, and the whole loud riff-soft verse-scream chorus-verse-scream chorus-soaring bridge-scream chorus blueprint is all they use. I haven't heard the entire single yet but what I heard didn't sound like the "huge change" Shinoda talked about

oh definitely i agree. im not saying linkin park is some amazing band that sounds different or doesnt stick to what works for them. but it all comes down to if u like the sound or not. i do but i know many dont.

but who knows the huge change could be on the other singles and the lead single is just that....something they know that will get played.

Personally I thought their first album had a lot of cool stuff on it. The second album felt like a pretty bad attempt at remaking the first album. I'm not going to call them the worse band of all time as others will: they have some cool songs, and I like much of the stuff they did with Jay. Alas there's too much repetition and angst in the music. A few years ago when I was in HS and all brooding it was great, but now meh

Not that I am a LP fan but that is retarded.

AC/DC
Old school Metallica
Tool
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rush
Pantera
ZZ Top

Just off the top of my head those are some great bands that have distinct sounds. And no I am not saying LP is as good as any of them but really, I think if this was a topic about any band you yourself was a fan of off that list, you wouldn't really care about sounding the same. Different strokes for different folks.

It's true. In every above case, when hearing a new single or new-to-you classic for the first time, you can tell with a great degree of certainty what band made the track.

This is not my preferred style of rock, by any means, but it is sometimes acceptable. In the absence of anything of great quality on the radio, classics and mediocre modern music will have to suffice.
